In Midtown West, a popular central area full of new rental units, the average cost of a two-bedroom apartment is $6,648. Elsewhere in the city, $10,964 will land you an apartment in SOHO.

Who in the right mind mind would live in that rat and roach infested city and pay those prices? Theres one born every minute and apparently NYC is the place they all congregate

Are you eager to get your plants in the ground? Cut the bottoms out of gallon jugs and set them over new and fragile plants to protect them from bugs or a late frost.

When trimming hedges, use a plastic kiddie pool to catch clippings, kicking it along as you clip. The clippings fall into the pool, making cleanup a snap. When you’re done trimming, dump the clippings into your mulch pile.

Keep bugs from swimming in your drinks by topping glasses with baking cup liners. Cut a small X into the center of each liner, poke a (reusable or paper) straw through the hole and enjoy your beverage pest-free.

For healthy plants, it’s important to get water to the roots. Here’s my method: I drill holes in water bottles and bury them alongside my plants, leaving just the cap above the ground. To water the plants, I unscrew the bottles’ caps, fill the bottles and screw the caps back on. It requires some extra effort, but it conserves water, and my plants—especially the tomatoes—are thriving like never before.

Do you have a hard time starting seeds or cuttings? Try soda bottle greenhouses. Cut the bottom off 2-liter soda bottles and remove the labels. Each seed gets its own micro greenhouse! Remove the greenhouses once the seeds have germinated and cuttings are rooted.

I only own one watering can, so I need to refill it four or five times to water all of the plants on my patio. Instead of buying more overpriced watering cans, I use old milk jugs. I drill a few holes in the caps, fill up the jugs with water and I’m good to go.

Do you have a noisy drip coming from the downspout that's driving you nuts? I discovered an easy way to stop the drip — just push a kitchen sponge into the bottom of the downspout. It'll muffle the dripping noise without blocking the water flow.

If you’re having a graduation party or some other occasional event out in the yard, you may require extra electricity. Here’s a great way to keep extension cord plugs dry. Cut notches in the opposite sides of a reusable plastic container and snap on the lid. Your plugs will stay dry if it happens to rain or the ground is moist.

Richard Ruth of Competition Engineering in Sunland, California built the 1955 Chevrolet 150 sedans used in the 1971 movie: TWO LANE BLACKTOP. When the cars were delivered to the studio, they were painted powder blue, but the studio had them finished with a gray primer appearance to fit the persona of the drag racers played by James Taylor and Dennis Wilson.

This rare car is one of only seven 401 Nail Head Gran Sports to be built by Buick in 1966. The gorgeous car is red in color with the original black interior, black top, and factory black pinstripes. It has a factory correct M-21 4-speed transmission, 3:55 Positraction rear end, bucket seats, a power convertible top, dual quad carburetors, and factory Chrome Mag Wheels with Redline Tires.

I can neither confirm nor deny this story, but I supposedly met the designer of the billboard stripe at the Barrett-Jackson auction in 1995. His name is Tom Hale (not to be confused with former head-of-design and fellow AAR owner Tom Gale), and he has created the event poster for the BJ auction for many years. He told me that in 1970 he was working in the Chrysler graphic arts department. He had created the AAR stripe and some other stripes, but was bored with stripes and wanted to design cars. While he was waiting for a departmental transfer his boss came to him and told him his next assignment was to design the stripe for the 71 Cuda. Tom was pissed and in a fit of rage he drew a stripe that covered the entire back half of the side of the car. He submitted the artwork and thought, "if you want a stripe I'll give you a f@#$%&g stripe!" To his astonishment management took the stripe seriously and it was approved.

This hemi is well known nationally as "the bank robber car" because of its fascinating history. It was originally owned by Chicago police officer, Clem Messino of Harvey, IL. In an effort to subsidize his income, Mr. Messino was using this hemi car to escape the authorities in several successful bank robberies in both Illinois and Indiana . Eventually the police were on the lookout for this elusive and swift white belvedere so Mr. Messino painted his car black. Though a clever idea, Mr. Messino was eventually apprehended and is currently incarcerated for his crimes.

The second generation Charger was all-new for 1968 and so were the Cincinnati Bengals. Dodge dealer Tom Kneer decided to create his own special edition Dodge Charger in the team’s colors and learned from the team HQ that the team’s uniforms would be black with orange and white stripes and helmets would be bright orange with black “Bengal” lettering.

So he placed the order with Dodge for 50 1968 Chargers. Tom scanned through the paint samples in Dodge’s color guide and discovered an orange used for Michigan state fleet vehicles that he dubbed Tiger Orange.

Black vinyl tops and dual black stripes around the trunk rounded out Tom’s specifications for his Bengal Charger. Most cars were ordered with the 318 or 383, none were ordered with the 426 Hemi. He had a few 6 cylinder cars built for marketing purposes and an estimated 10 - 12 R/Ts.

Because Tom was purchasing so many cars, Chrysler agreed to throw in the black Sport Stripes for free. In 1968, Chrysler put Sport Stripes on the Charger R/T only. Since most of the Bengals were not R/Ts, obviously, an exception was made. For this reason and because they were free, the stripe does not appear on the broadcast sheet but instead was part of the special order processing along with the orange paint.

Comment #1: Tom Gale grew up in Flint. He used to pump our gas at the local Shell station when I was a kid.

Comment #2: In my current gig as an Accessory Design/Release engineer for Nissan, several of my assignments have to do with vinyl graphics and side stripes. I will keep this story in mind as I go about my business....
