Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
1970 Chevelle. The graphics are from waiving an aceytlene welder set on rich over the panel then clear coating it...very popular back in the day and done right (and not too much) it looked good.
Car had 14 x6 or 14 x7 reverse(deep dish) wheels up front.Looked good in this case. Car had that just right stance. BTW: this car was in an Auto Trader mag several years ago still looking like this. It was being sold from the guys estate. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...egrumplump.jpg |

Dave, the guy painting my hood told me last week he used to do a lot of "smoked" paint graphics using that same technique. Cool stuff, I personally think it looks better on the top side of the car mixed with some stripes or lace or a mural. Tommy |

This is a friends Camaro. he still has it but is it black now. It reminds me of marshall Tucker Band album covers for some reason.... Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Cool patriotic Nova. These flag paint schemes were very popular in 75-76 when these pics were taken...Spirit of '76.
Another car with a good stance. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...rioticnova.jpg http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ioticnova2.jpg |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Remember that car well. I wonder where it ever ended up?

Possibly pro streeted or maybe even a pro touring style car at this point with multiple prior owners who history of the car is gone...but that being said it's also amazing how many of these old magazine cars are in their original form locked away. That is how the maroon Fravel 68 Camaro is to this day. BTW Anyone notice the "flub"/easily corrected error/gaff if you will on the white Nova??? If you can spot it you are detailed minded. |

Yep, he installed the caps in the wrong order. |

Wow...and Dave and John are still working and painting yet today....35 years later.

Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Yes on the battery and the flag isn't correct on stripe and star quantity.
All types of tastes were around then as are now. That never changes and makes everything better. ...but even then, never liked the too high/tall look unless it was a truck or the front end of a true early gasser. We preferred the "stuffed" tire look. If it sat taller, just enough to clear the rear tires (no rub) with a rake was perfect. |

40,000 original miles, lakewood traction bars, 70's era 14x8 mags and old hooker super comp headers.

Looking good man! This is such a great thread and the heavy Nova content doesn't hurt.

Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Thanks for the welcomes. Yes I built it, my first car at 21. Took just over 2 years to restore. First repaint in factory #53 placer gold and NOS 3M Rally decals. 40000 miles and both build sheets, built in van nuys california, sold at Vernon Motor Products, british columbia. F40 suspension, carpet, floor mats, seat covers all original, seat belt warning system all work, etc. Hood is off an SS. CE replacement block, #492 2.02/1.60 cylinder heads. mallory unlite mechanical advance distro. Installed old mechanical Smiths Gauges in the console for a cooler then stock look

Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Beautiful Nova! What that parking lot shot lacks is 2 long black lines, and judging by the bent rear leaf spring, you know how to do it!

Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
I really like this green camaro-Im having my '67 Firebird repainted&choose a Hunter green base with a Mystic Metallic added to paint scheme-I played with a model of my car-to see how it would look-I came up with my own designs-let me know what guys think-Is is "DAY2" or "Street Freak"http://i852.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/S5000056.jpghttp://i852.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/S5000054.jpg
|
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
The paint has holographic properties-I just hope I can have the actual painter who is doing the job on my car to copy this design I came up with-I was gonna lay the stripes in white instead of black-but I didnt have any white paint left-Let me know what you guys think.......http://i852.photobucket.com/albums/a...S5000067-1.jpg
|
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Crazy-cool, and I think "Street Freak" would be exactly the correct term.

If I had to change one thing it'd be making the sidepipes match the length of the rocker panels--engine/headers permitting, of course. Oh, and it would have a wild Rat up front! |
