Starting in the 1930s, Marmon-Herrington of Indianapolis took light duty Fords and converted them to four-wheel drive. The work was done largely by hand and a conversion roughly doubled the purchase price of a standard Ford or Mercury, so not very many Marmon-Herrington conversions were completed. The Mercurys, in particular, are extremely scarce, and according to RM Sotheby’s, only three Mercury wagons are known to have survived. This is represented as the last one and the only example from 1948.

It's great in theory but, in my experience here in Southern NJ, it is rarely enforced. I drive the Garden State Parkway everyday for work and people (mostly with NY plates) seem to hang in that left lane as if it was the only lane available to them.

I have seen the State Police come up behind them, watch them move over for the police and then immediately get right back in that lane.

The vinyl top medallions are out in left field.

That's pretty funny (or sad) isn't it. I have no idea why they were placed in those positions. Just looking at a brochure photo would tell you where they belong:
