Ryan,
What a cool project. I think it is great that 3 generations of your family are working on it together. The memories will last a lifetime. Looking forward to future updates and progress. Phil Woj. |

Thanks guys!!!
We are really enjoying the chance to dig in!!! Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Well done Ryan......a good nights work. WHAT NO PICS OF Jamie Wrenching
IT IS TYPICAL FOR THE FRAMES TO BE MORE RUSTY TOWARD THE REAR. Yes, the a-body frames (depending on what GM type) either had 2 or 4 rubber isolator frame pads.....no through bolts. MAKING PROGRESS.....LOOKING FORWARD TO SATURDAY Dan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Jamie was committed elsewhere so just Dad and I, we didn't have our photographer:-(
Sunday this week (busy time of year) I hope to have the body free from the frame with a 2 X 4 in between at each corner so we can make sure nothing is still connected......Dad is building a rolling cart to hold the body so we can put it as far in the corner as possible. Next Saturday we hope to get the body on the cart...... Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Great! Send those bumpers out for Chroming - you 'll be happy you did

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Impressive amount of work in such a short time make sure you document and photograph as much as you can.
|
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Sorry bumpers will have beautiful brackets and bolts and shine will have to be round two:-)
Disassembly is easy........ Any joker can take a car apart:-) We are buying baggies, labels, and sharpies daily:-) Stay tuned as I prove to myself I can bring this ol girl back to life!!! Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Ryan,
Hard to find a pit-free frame. This can be remedied with a high quality filler to smooth things out and fill in the pits. It makes a world of difference to pay attention to this detail (vs final coat over the pitting). Keep pluggin'! |

Dan V is coaching me on the chassis part prep, I need to communicate clearly with my local powder coater.........

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Today is a real "Team Weaver/Oldsmobile" day!!!
Dad finished the body cart, ready to store the old body till the chassis is ready. I feel a little guilty I only borrowed a few tools and gather cinder blocks for the removal process. Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Are you building an ark? Looks too small for all the animals to fit in?
(I used railroad ties for mt T/A years ago). |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
The ark is almost complete:-)

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
So Dad and I worked at my FIL's Igloo today:-)
We removed the gas tank, cut a few bolts, a few came out willingly. Then my camera shut right off:-( (I will catch up on pictures mid week. We then cut five body bolts (the two at the front for speed) but 3 at the back due to spinning nuts:-( We then jacked and blocked the body about 6 inches up off the frame:-) We are ready with 4X4's, cinder blocks, engine hoists, body cart/ark, for Saturday!! We will be out of the Igloo Saturday!!! I am concerned about the pitting of the frame but will have to wait and see how deep it is, I don't really care as the original frame will be used no matter what, I won't mess with the soul of my car by swapping frames. The floor pans are very very nice, everything I am seeing underneath is spectacular!! This makes me happy as The costs of welding in new metal would add up quick. I see the Ziebart did it's job and saved this car!!! Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Nice progress.....bad timing for your camera to die
Too bad Ziebart process did not cover the entire frame.....it would have been mint Dan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Things are lookin' great Ryan also hard not to love the whole family effort thing...Weaver fever!!! Hoping to drop by the igloo in the new year also look forward meeting your crew! ~ Pete |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Dan: Agree the Ziebart must not have covered the frame?
Pete: You are welcome at the igloo any time, let me know!! All: These are the few pictures I got. I had zero extra time to drive home and pick up my charger:-( Both air shocks were full of pressurized air........funny I was not expecting anything to happen when I removed the first line and pssssshhhhh. The picture with the air shock in it is a good example of how minty the floors are and how crusty the frame is:-) This makes me happy, if it was the other way around there would be very little left of the car. The final bunch of pictures are the rubber mat placed above the gas tank, both sides. The tank and sending unit look in ok condition, but they will be replaced with Spectra (entire fuel system will be new or rebuilt original) Ryan https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-img_3259.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-img_3261.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-img_3262.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-img_3263.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-img_3264.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-img_3265.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-img_3266.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-img_3267.jpg |

Dan and I both had the same contact to get a perfect gas tank pad.
70Post Patton Glade on Classic Oldsmobile. http://classicoldsmobile.com/forums/...tion-item.html Patton has been jumping in on my thread from time to time and we got to meet briefly at MCACN so I am excited to buy one of his gas tank pads to say thanks for the support!!!!!! Ryan |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Getting prepared for Sat:-)
Stopped by last night to test fit a few lifting brackets to simplify the rigging. Need to pack up two engine hoists, shackles, straps, etc. A few of the pictures show the wood blocking between the frame and the body, a few gas tank pictures, and a few showing the floor pan and frame. making more progress great to see!

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Removing all the interior, glass and doors would make your task a lot easier. The lighter the body the better. That way you can lift it by the trunk latch brace in the rear and by the top two fender bolt holes on the top of the cowl. That way requires two cherry pickers. You also can use the seat belt bolt holes from the interior, which only requires one cherry picker. Either way, you need to have the body as light as possible.
|
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I removed my convertible body years ago by pulling the rear up first, using the seat belt anchors. Then lifting the front using the front body mounts. Only one cherry picker needed.

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Thanks for the words of wisdom!!
I will combine these nuggets with the plan we have if she doesn't want to go vertical:-) "Team Weaver" all headed out full of piss and vinegar tonight to buy a parts car, 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass S Convertible. Gold, gold, white top, 350 column auto. We are returning empty handed, what a steaming pipe of s##t!!! Seller honestly felt a lot of the car was usable, but he is incorrect:-( Wasted some money tonight but some time spent together is ok by me:-) I don't stay mad long:-) Now let's get some dinner!!!! Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
What do you need that you'd get off a parts car???
|
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Ryan,
I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW MANY WASTED ROAD TRIPS......I have made going to buy another mans version of a "Mint" car, DUH Carry On! LESSON LEARNED. Dan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
The owner told me it had 4 SS11's with trim rings, replacement bumpers, wheel well trim, 350 olds engine, fan shroud, some items for me some to sell.
I wanted to have it to use little odds and soda, but there was only the ghost of a car left. I got to excited and jumped in with both feet, better than sitting on my ass any day:-) (trying to somehow justify the expense of taking a truck and trailer for a long drive:-( Darn it!! Ryan |

The hunt is just part of the fun. A bad day of car hunting is better than a good day at work!
