The reason why Sox and Martin left Mercury after the 1964 season and went to Plymouth was because Mercury would only give them one car for personal use, to share, while Plymouth agreed to giving them one each.

GM-X was the moniker for the soon to be Firebird. To improve the handling, the engineers set the ride height very low and had to use very stiff springs to prevent the car from bottoming out which made the car ride like a truck. The idea was scrapped.
