Its green peel is inedible, but the juicy fruit on the inside is white in color and similar to guava in texture, which is why it’s also sometimes called pineapple guava or guavasteen. Feijoa has a distinctive, perfume-like smell and a flavor that some have compared to a combination of apple, pineapple and mint. |

Miracle fruit gets its name from the fact that it contains the miraculin glycoprotein which, when eaten, causes any sour foods — such as lemons, pickles or radishes — eaten right after it to taste sweet. The fruit goes by many names such as miracle berry and sweet berry, as well as, in its native West Africa, agbayun, asaa, ledidi and taami. The red berries themselves have a mild flavor that’s both sweet and tangy. |

https://i.postimg.cc/rwPBqz0t/i6rer.png Although the event was the annual Chevrolet Nationals, the star attraction was a re-creation of the Smokey and the Bandit jump by a Pontiac Trans-Am. Things went well as the car launched 30 feet into the air and soared 120 or so feet through the air. But driver Ray Kohn, making his first such jump, was unable to stick the landing, the car going nose-first into the pavement. The stunt was staged by the Northeast Ohio Dukes stunt team. A huge crowd that gathered to watch was appreciative of the effort, said organizers from Carlisle Events. |

In the 1960s, scientists discovered that horseshoe crab blood could be used to detect even the smallest amounts of harmful bacteria. Since then, the pharmaceutical industry has been using it to make sure our injections, vaccines and surgical implants are all free from contamination. And so, every year along the U.S. East Coast, 500,000 crabs are collected, cleaned, measured and then drained of as much as one-third of their copper-based, baby-blue blood. Collections also take place across the eastern shores of Mexico and China. Demand for the blood is high—it’s been called blue gold and is reportedly worth up to $60,000 a gallon. |

Never knew that Mike. Goodyear did some amazing things back in the day. My buddy Denny found a crated Goodyear inflatable airplane in the air dock rafters several decades ago. He said it went to the Smithsonian. Phil

Every Fourth of July, sparkly fireworks illuminate the sky. But, haven’t you always wondered why it’s a tradition to set off explosions of light in the sky on Independence Day? It's certainly a day for celebration, but why fireworks? Why not just stick to barbeques and all things red, white, and blue? Well, you can thank famous historian John Adams for it. Before the Declaration of Independence was even signed, John Adams wrote in a letter to his wife that the occasion of America’s freedom “ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.” And so, it was. |
