Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Anyone swinging by ECAM to visit Joe Vigorita won't be able to check out the old "Standard Press Steel" rod bolts distributed by Mr. Gasket, as the dust has been knocked off and its laying on the floor in Plowman's garage.
Don't know when Precision Cast Parts bought SPS, but I suspect that it was before these were made. I bet I've starred at these bolts for 20+ years whenever I would stop by. Love the local tie in. Hey Dave, are the bolts back then any better or worse than what you are cranking out now? http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...f/SPSbolts.jpg |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Paul,
The bolts were way better then then now! SPS was sold right after the company hit 100 years...2003 was the 100th. 2005 or 2006 was when they came aboard. Been unhappy ever since! The bolts are soo cool to see out in the market. I forgot they were sold by MR Gasket. We still make the Carrillo Racing bolts for Indy cars and Nascar and so on. I was offered a set of Carrillo rods from them and never got around to picking them up. I have lots of stickers from them if anyone wants some!! Dave 67 Nova Boy |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
I will take some stickers,if it is ok. Paul

Thanks...I've had it for 10-12 years now...18,000 miles 283 3 on the tree, I won best unrestored Chevelle nats when I first bought it. original everything... http://www.classicperformance.com/ebay_pics/day22.JPG
http://www.classicperformance.com/ebay_pics/tabs.JPG
A year later I slammed a L-88 in it , turbo 400 on the column. 12 bolt..Has run best of 11.89..Needs a better torque converter to make it really ET...
I just day two'd it over the winter ... dressed under the hood [check out the Mallory Dist!!]kinda like a Motion car...tow tabs...restored Cragar G/Ts. I really want a Motion hood..anybody got one?? |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread

I have the original 14 steels and it has 15 inchers in the picture... L-78-15 up front on 6 inch wheels and in the back I took a pair of 8" vette Rallys, cut the centers out and welded in a pair of 'stock' non-rally ceners so I'd have an 8 inch rim for the cheater slicks 28 inch h Hoosiers... for the G/T's ..you could only EVER get them 14 or 15 by SIX... So I restored a nice pair for the front with 7.75 Vette Red Lines and took another pair of G/T's for the rear..sent those out and had them cut the wheel apart near the inside bead and welded in an 1 1/2 section making the rears 7 1/2 wide for the Hoosiers...I had a pair of ancient Racemasters on it for a while and it look ultra-fabulous with the gennies on. The Race Masters are going the Russ Dunmire car on chrome slots as it was originally raced... |

neat piece i just found. Bieber Changer. Think they were acquired by Hurst shortly after they introduced this shifter.

What is that? Life before Ram Rod's? |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Yes, Bieber Shifters, Doylestown, Pa. 20 minutes from me and 20 minutes from the old Hurst. Those were the days!
|
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
i dont have the IQ to figure out how it works.
what was the advantage of using one? |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
good question! I think you just pulled the levers straight and not in an H pattern for faster shifts. maybe one lever for first/second the other for 3rd/4th? Would assume the instruction sheet has the answer to that question BUT never used on. I just remember they used to have these set up on the transmissions in the local speed shops in our area. WOW, has time flown by!

Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Jim, that is exactly what I want to do with another set of G/Ts I own. Can you tell me where you had your wheels modified?

RE the Bieber shifter; The handle closest to the driver when pulled straight back shifts the trans up one gear. Release the lever, pull back again and you go up another gear. Keep going till you have shifted through all of the gears, then one more pull and you're back to neutral. If you want to downshift, you pull the handle on the right. If you want reverse, you have to be in neutral first, then put the trans in reverse using the lever with the round black knob. The large round wheel looking affair has an oddly shaped cam groove on the side away from the camera that moves rollers attached to the transmission shift arms that make the shift arms move to determine what gear you are in. Kinda neat for late 60's technology. Last night I asked a friend if he still has the one he had in his 57 Nomad but he has no idea where it might be. He is a major hoarder/collector/junk dealer, but if he still has it, it could be in any of his many warehouses full of inventory. |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
a ratchet style of shifting?
