I think it would be better to display them with a sign pointing out that every document is fake . Maybe type up a nice paragraph warning people about how easy it is to fake this stuff and really look into cars history etc before shelling out hard earned money for a supposed documented car.

If i choose to display the doc's. I will display that the doc's are re-created. that seems like a fair way of doing it...... I'm getting somewhat fatigued at defending them for my purpose. I may just put the car away in storage for a quite a while....... I think i'm ready to start a new project anyway...... |

Personal opinions here but w/ the situation and exposure this car has had, using it as an example of what's going on out there seemed a great idea worth considering?!.
But if the Wagonlad doesn't want to do that, good enough & no question he's free to do as he chooses.. Even the flip-flop statements of what he's gonna' do w/ the hokey 'documents' later don't matter.. That last statement by you is what all of us honest folks in the hobby are afraid of. Not only by YOU, but by many others who have tried it (some successfully) and others who are contemplating it. Whether or not your initial intentions were as you say, I still have an extreme objection to what you have done. I also have an extreme objection to the Hemmings magazine putting your car on the COVER. As I said before, it's a bitter-sweet situation. I have strong negative feelings toward the magazine for doing that, but I also am glad that the issue will (should) follow your car forever, so that no one can try to prove the car is legit. I've spent the last 25 years of my life trying to compile information needed to verify the authenticity of 58-64 full sized Chevrolets, and I will NEVER EVER condone the making of a cowl tag, or ANY fake documentation of ANY kind. The only information that should EVER be displayed with your car is the ORIGINAL documentation. As far as I'm concerned, your car might as well have a blower through the hood. It's a "modified" car, and nothing more (no matter how nice it is). In 100 years, is the copy of the magazine article still going to be in the trunk????????????????????? You can't answer that question. Calm down fellas. He is getting his button pushed and is pushing back. The car is nice enough to be on the cover of a magazine and I don't think Hemmings has a policy of only featuring cars with real documentation. With the quality of work you do you might as well do it to a real car next time.

Dog, They seemed to make that a theme of that issue. 3 cars (I think) were singled out as "never were, but could have been". A pretty lame theme for that magazine, in my opinion....

If you guys have a problem with Hemmings putting this car on the cover maybe you should take it up with Hemmings. The headline says ONE OF NONE, THE NEVER WAS Z-28 RS CONVERTIBLE. If people can't read that and know that it is a made up car maybe they need more schooling. I think it is a great looking car. As long as Wagonman is up front with anyone asking about the car or he doesn't try to sell it as the real deal, I don't have a problem with it. How many of these high dollar COPOs are represented as 100% authentic when they are in fact rebodies. If the car in question here was one of these cars this thread would have never gone this far. The man has a right to do as he pleases with his car as long as he is up front about it. JMO
