Re: 1968 nova L78

The 68 4-core has IL on one tank & the other one the rad cap side has C e H on it. I may be wrong but I think the 3-core have LL on them.

Re: 1968 nova L78

It's mine & I really wish somebody from the midwest would give it a new home & take it to Monmouth, the Gibb reunion and the SCR. Seems a little sad that a car like this, that was bought to race and raced throughout it's life, would sit in a museum...like an old thoroughbred put out to pasture.
The guys running the auction suggested not to disclose the reserve, so I didn't link it over here. But, it is much lower than the 115 in my Hemmings ad https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

The one we have from Alan Forman's 69 L78 blk nova 4spd has a OO on one of the side tanks. The cars up at Jensens so I'm not sure which side.

C H and I L are the tank codes for 69/70 BB auto 3 core radiator...also 69 Camaro. OO IL is 68-70 BB 4 speed Nova. I have the original tag off of our 68 L78 Nova....tag reads:

IL ZD
OO
68 R

part # 3017837 8

Re: 1968 nova L78

I was wondering if you guys with L78 novas might know this answer...Ive had 3 1970 L78 novas in the past and was wondering if at the bottom line of the trim tag..in the middle is a letter A all by itself.....all three cars had the letter only in the very center of the tag...I know someone who has a 70 he is restoring and it has the A in the center bottom line and a A in crayon on the firewall...I only ask because I found another ss396 nova..original black..non original block...supposed to be a L78 car originally and has the A in the center bottom line...any clues?...Mike.

Re: 1968 nova L78

The letter A on the trim tag denotes Black painted interior trim. Earl

Re: 1968 nova L78

The CH auto on Allen's is a 4 core curved neck.

WILMASBOYL78 10-09-2008 06:02 PM

Re: 1968 nova L78

The right tank with the CH is the same for 3 or 4 core...the left tank will be IO on the curved neck application....obviously this is a Camaro radiator since Novas did not get the curved neck model.

i noticed on the crg site that they have noted production exceptions in radiator application and installation on the assembly line... i wonder if that was a possibility on the nova line as well?

I have never heard of a Nova 4 core curved neck...I guess anything is possible. What is the month letter between the C and H and how does that relate to the production date of the car. Is the top rail of the radiator original or was this unit re-cored at some time..??? I still don't think Novas got those curved neck units...but ya never know https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smirk.gif

Re: 1968 nova L78

the radiator which is pictured came out of my 69 nova L-78 auto car, it is an original drive train car that is dated 07D. i believe the motor has one 840 and one 691 head, both F-9 dated, interestingly enough the motor came with a B dated 499 distributor. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: 1968 nova L78

i forgot to mention that from the pic's it appears that the radiator is C dated, does the top piece on the radiator or mounting brackets on the side of the radiator appear to be nova or camaro?

WILMASBOYL78 10-09-2008 09:09 PM

Re: 1968 nova L78

Alan, I think you mean 291 head....so what's the date stamp letter on the 4 core radiator..???

you're right about the head number...
the letter code on the radiator appears to be a c from the pic, it is a little bit blurry. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

Re: 1968 nova L78

Brewers was a dealer in special cars as well as run of the mill autos. truck loads of COPOs L-78 cars, also yellow Z-L1. Years ago, when Brewers changed hands, I purchased plates, key fobs, anything to keep the name of a great Chevrolet Dealer alive. My first job was a mechanic in the service dept. If anyone ever finds a Brewers car and needs a front plate or key fob, let me know. I do not charge anything for these items, I just think its great that the name continues to live. Chig and Buddy Brewer are still living, and are two of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. The racing stories they tell are great. Bret, am looking forward to a ride in that wicked little NOVA. Every one have a Merry Christmas. Robert
