Hey Eddie, be sure to put those cows on stilts before you hook up the milkers. We don't want any watered down moo juice. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif
Seriously though, I hope everyone stays safe. Looks nasty out there. |
Re: Ca storm
Charlie
I recall the storms of Feb 1986,that flooded everything in your area. My wife and I had visited the Napa region and then headed to Palm Springs. Cut the trip short because of Weather and headed north. Got stranded in Santa Rosa. Next day we headed to SF to head east to I5 so we could take that north. Everything was flooding around Sacramento so we kept moving until we got to higher ground. Bought a Honda EU6500 generator this year. Super quiet and puts out 5500 watts. Can run the main rooms in the house off it. Hang in there!! Paul |

Lost my weeping willow on my little island. You can still see it standing in a earlier pic from today. Storm has subsided. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/309462-P1010002-1.JPG [/ QUOTE ] The weeping willow will continue to grow (upwardly ) where it lays. Or, you can partially bury almost any size cutting from that tree to make more. Trees grow back. People don't. |
Re: Ca storm
Hey Charlie......Might be a good investment to get a transfer switching station. Living FL. I went through the hurricanes from 2004 and being without a Well for a week was unbearable, I swore I would never go through that again. I have a 6000 watt generator thats not powerful enough to run central A/C, so I installed a window unit for the bedroom and can switch to whatever curcuits I need at the time so If I need water I can switch it to the well and if I want to run the fridge I can do that without overloading the generator. etc. The stations are sold at LOWES for around $500 and well worth it.And you can do all this right inside your Home or Garage whichever you prefer. The trick is to map out all of your existing circuits at your fuse panel and figure all of your wattages for the size of your Generator. A licensed electrician is a must though. Good luck and Hunker down as they say here in the Sunshine state. I will attach a pic of what they look like. The brand name is Reliance.

Re: Ca storm
I've got one of these GenTran's in my office for a free standing portable generator we drag from the shed. Easy plug-in and we can bring on a choice of six circuits.

Re: Ca storm
Yes that is very simular to mine. I chose to have the remote outlet option mounted outdoors as thats where the Generator is, running 50 ft. away from the building Iam powering IE: no fumes. I built a small insulated watertight large dog house sized enclosure with a hinged roof that also cuts down on the drone of the generator.

Re: Ca storm
I have a master switch to switch to the generator but I have two meters and the well is on the other meter. We are adding another switch to add the well to the generator at the same time.
Stuart...I agree... |

Re: Ca storm
Last night I went to bed with power and water..This morning I wake up to no power. I want my morning coffee but noooooo...I have to go start the generator. After about 3 pulls on the rope of the 10 hp Coleman POS generator it fires and runs for maybe 5 seconds but then shuts off. This is all being done by the light of my truck. I pull and I pull and I pull on that friggen rope with that cold thick oil in that engine and keep wishing I had taken better care of my back when I was young. Pull the spark plug, bead blast it clean by flashlight..{I have air in my air tank). Still no start. Pull plug again, ground it and pull friggen rope and there is no spark from this POS Coleman. Go in house, Wife offers to go to Starbucks.....Power comes on......ARRGH !!!

Re: Ca storm
Went to Home Depot..They had one 7500 watt setup and a nice 13000 watt unit that runs on propane and automatically starts when power goes out. 3100.000 though. Went home, took the POS Coleman apart and found the stator had rusted...Sanded off the rust and the POS is no longer a POS.
|
Re: Ca storm
This is the one I have Home depot show it at 1,2000 I know they had the worng price that day but hey for 600 it was a good buy

More Storms in the Midwest
Well, we knew it was comin. When the temps go from 12° to 72° in just a couple of days you know you're gonna have trouble. Severe storms and tornadoes all the way from Oklahoma through Springfield, MO up to Kenosha.
I drove home in the worst rain and wind I've seen in years. No damage at home but I'm hearing bad reports from the Springfield, MO and Boone County, IL areas. How about some reports from you guys in those areas. Let us know everyone's OK. |
Re: More Storms in the Midwest
We were a couple of miles from the Damage....But...another member here ...Gary...(Gwawa) had the building behind his house lose it's roof and a Garage across the sreet from him is gone, Gary seems to have gotten away without any Damage (His Generator is getting a workout though) but the rest of the houses on his street did not come out so well......Lots of Damage.....TV Crews are there filming the Damage along with Helicopters filming from the Air......Tornado went right thru and skipped his house and Garage full of Cars........Waiting for the News to come on and see the damage as the Neighborhood is Blocked off............

Re: More Storms in the Midwest
Keep us posted. Hope everyone is OK. I saw Ray Morrison was on a few minutes ago so I'll assume he's good. How about you other guys in Southern Missouri?
Still some lightning and rumbling here so it looks like there's more to come. |
Re: More Storms in the Midwest
Wow...hope everyone is okay!
Ken, let us know what you find out about Gary... |

Re: More Storms in the Midwest
They have video running on the weather channel now...along with a still photo of the twister from a college in Kenosha
|
Re: More Storms in the Midwest
Glad your safe Ken.
Around mid day they showed a Tornado touched down in Poplar Grove,Il.and was then making it's way Northeast to Kenosha Co. I kept thinking,"what of the Mars Cheese Factory?". They kept saying,"if you live in Kenosha, you'll soon wish you didn't". |
Re: More Storms in the Midwest
Folks around Springfield, MO had a long, long night...last I heard were a couple of confirmed deaths, but they were still digging through lots of rubble. Took the roof clean off one of the schools in Republic, and lots of other schools in the area are closed due to damage...numerous seperate tornadoes on the ground, lots of baseball size and bigger hail...bad, bad, bad. I keep a close eye on Springfield, as my eldest daughter lives there with her mother.
Stayed pretty much west of us, though, as we just got the straight line gusts and rain/hail...hit here around 4:30am...sounded like a freight train coming across the bottom field...never heard anything like it, just a slow build of wind & noise over about 20 seconds, and then all heck broke loose. About 1/2 between our house and town a guy lost the roof off one of his shops and one end of it, framing and all, was gone, with a lot of it lieing on top of the garage next to it...they kept saying on the radio early this morning that a shop building south of Alton had lost it's roof, so everyone was calling to see if it was ours! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif . |
