Re: Verne Frantz's Too Cool 62 409!!
I don't know how to say this right. IT's difficult. I just got a phone call to tell me that my best high school friend, Jim Holland, the guy who rode home with me the night I bought my '62, died of lymphoma.
I'll miss him. I can't believe how many memories I had with him. HE stopped playnig with cars a long time ago and was into scuba diving and Harleys. He was the best and longest friend I ever had in my life. HE was living just outside cHicago He and I spent many hours in that '62. |
Re: Verne Frantz's Too Cool 62 409!!
I'm sorry to hear that Verne...keep the good memories fresh in your mind. That will help! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Verne Frantz's Too Cool 62 409!!
Verne, I'm so sorry to hear of the death of your long time friend. It's got to be a very difficult time for you.
The story and the car have to be one of the neatest things I've experienced. We all have special memories of the "good ol' days". You have captured and said it better than anyone. Thanks for the trip. Don |
Re: Verne Frantz's Too Cool 62 409!!
Verne,
Sorry to hear that you lost your close bud. That takes the wind right out of your sails. Memories are where its at and you've got plenty with your friend Jim. Best wishes, |
Re: Verne Frantz's Too Cool 62 409!!
Sorry to hear, Verne. Suppose there'll be even more cool stuff crossing your mind when you bust out the '09 now, though. Best, Tenney

Memories are where its at and you've got plenty with your friend Jim. [/ QUOTE ] Well said. Unfortunately many of our memories aren't what we'd like them to be. But then, we need to be thankful for all of them. Try not to dwell on the loss and focus on the smiles you shared. I'll bet that's what he's doing. |
Re: Verne Frantz's Too Cool 62 409!!
Another reason for us to keep in touch with our friends and do the required "maintenence" to keep friendships strong. All of my old-days buddies are down in California but I try to see them as much as possible when I am in town. I just had lunch with a high school car buddy on Wednesday when I was in Oakland. We went over to Kragen after lunch and they had Wieand blowers, Holleys, Edelbrock intakes, Cherry Bombs, headers, etc. in the store! It was just like 30 years ago except that that none of that stuff had been touched in years. Mr Gasket header gaskets, B&M shifters, Hurst shifters. It's the Pinole/Hilltop Kragen off of Appian Way/I-80 if anybody wants to go take a time-warp look. Anyway, it's great to spend time with old friends and it must be hard as hell to lose them. Call your buddies and say hello.

Re: Verne Frantz's Too Cool 62 409!!
I'd like to say Thanks again to everyone for all the positive comments about my long story. I'm glad that it somehow conveyed my attachment with the car as well as just a history.
I also Thank you for your kind comments regarding my friend Jim. We actually had the kind of friendship that did not require frequent contact. Sometimes we'd go for months without a phone call. But when we did talk, it was like we never noticed the break in time. Thanks again... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif Verne |

From the "Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda" department....
I have this picture that I got from the original owner of my 69 Chevelle convertible, of the black with white top 62 Impala SS convertible that she traded in on the Chevelle in January of 69. I'm sure Verne woulda enjoyed seeing it..... |
Well, that was very entertaining, but bittersweet to read....
I wasn't aware before now, that he was only 2 years older than me. Way too early to leave. I hope his wife and family are doing OK. |
Good to read again....
Verne was a "good egg." Easy to chat with. Knowledge of the big car and just a down-right nice guy. All this, plus he was from Joisy. Rest easy Verne...
