Re: Herbie's Hugger L89 Super Stock Camaro
Cool Pic. Where did you find it? Yes, it is the same car and it seems that the Desalve Family did run a small block for a season.

Re: Herbie's Hugger L89 Super Stock Camaro
Anyone know a Cheverolet Dealer in College PA?
|
Re: Herbie's Hugger L89 Super Stock Camaro
Could you mean State College PA.?
I know of a car sold new from Stocker Chevrolet in State College PA. in 1970 at 701 Benner Pike-Zone 13 Dealer 806. I believe they moved and are in Bellefonte PA. today. |
Re: Herbie's Hugger L89 Super Stock Camaro
Thats it. I could only read the "ker" for Stocker Chevrolet and "e" for State, off the Window Sticker.
Thanks! |

Re: Herbie's Hugger L89 Super Stock Camaro
The salesman at Stocker Chev. told me they nicknamed their gobi beige deuce 'calves shitt brown' https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/mad.gif That's just not right, https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif but their gobi beige deuce survives today, still painted gobi https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: Herbie's Hugger L89 Super Stock Camaro
I've collected quite a few pics and info about Herbie's Hugger. I'll post some of the Vintage stuff soon.
Here is the original Window Sticker, which the DeSalve's had kept along with the original Keys, knock outs and owners manual. Barry also provided some cool pics and vintage news paper clippings,as well as other related info. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a79...owsticker1.jpg |
Re: Herbie's Hugger L89 Super Stock Camaro
Nice paperwork!!

Re: Herbie's Hugger L89 Super Stock Camaro
Booth & Aarons Handled the Engine building early on and John Lingenfelter Built H.H's. engines later on.
Barry said that they traded the L89 as credit on their first Booth Aarons built 427. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a79...ingefelder.jpg |
Re: Herbie's Hugger L89 Super Stock Camaro
I always thought the L89 head option added over 800.00 to the separate option of L78[additional]. It appears to be a 300.00 plus option on the window sticker shown, unless im reading it wrong. I believe an L89 was over a 1100.00 option because the heads had to be added to the L78 option and paid in addition
|
Re: Herbie's Hugger L89 Super Stock Camaro
394.95=L89
|
Re: Herbie's Hugger L89 Super Stock Camaro
I have seen RPO L89 listed as $710.95 for 1969 which was the L78 396 with aluminum heads. It appears that a net credit for the L78 was provided, which was $316.00. This nets out to the $394.95 L89 option price on the window sticker.
This way you weren't paying 2X for the 396 option. |
Re: Herbie's Hugger L89 Super Stock Camaro
I think its written in a few publications that the L89 option was actually in addition to the L78 and some have it listed as one with the L78 not being needed first for the L89 option.

any recent photos of the car?

Re: Herbie's Hugger L89 Super Stock Camaro
In 69, L78 and L89 were 2 separate options. L78 was required for L89 to be ordered.
Different pricing system in 68 - L89 $$ included L78. |
Re: Herbie's Hugger L89 Super Stock Camaro
Kurt, Ive also heard it was more expensive to buy aluminum heads over the counter than the list price as a L89 option to a car , is that true??
|
Re: Herbie's Hugger L89 Super Stock Camaro
Not too surprising. Parts always have more overhead costs, hence a higher price.
If anyone has a part # for the heads, I'll check the 69 price. |

Deduct the cost of the iron heads and charge the difference in the cost of the alloy pieces. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif |
