Re: 5 ZL1's newly "found" titled

I have used 411 services to help track down previous owners of many cars in the past. Two weeks ago it enabled me to meet the original owner of a car I have purchased. 31 years of owner history, photos and documentation that were not forwarded to the current owner. In Ontario, you can go to any Government operated MTO machine(like a bank machine) and for $20 you can get the owner history of any car registered in the province dating back to day one.The only info you need is a current plate # or a V.I.N.

I would be less worried about my phone # being on the internet than actually posting a message. You can change your phone #. The message remains there for ever. You can use the services of "Wayback Machine" to call up information that was posted years ago on the internet.

Does the poster who objected have some interest in this story?

He must be involved with the fellow whos name and number was posted. Gotta be one hell of a story if these cars ever appear. Camaromb ....that must have been a heck of a shocker to find 5 VINS registered to one dude all of a sudden.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: 5 ZL1's newly "found" titled

Well, I certainly hope those cars show up. The present "title holder" is probably under the (wrong) impression that the statute of limitations has passed for auto theft but guess what, the moment the car moves from one location to another, it just fulfilled all the requirements of the Federal Offense of ITSMV (Interstate Transportation of Stolen Motor Vehicle). Oh, and by using a telephone or any type of mail he also committed Federal Mail and Wire Fraud. Oops. That is of course if 5 cars just happen to pop up with those VINS (newly minted tags I would guess). And even if he's in Canada, guess what, by trying to hose someone over on this side of the border, he is committing the crimes here. And they do extradite for crimes of this level (we're talking about $5,000,000 worth of Camaros) That's more than enough to make any Federal Prosecutor salivate.

Re: 5 ZL1's newly "found" titled

The story for many years has been that the Merollis ZL1s were stolen new and never recovered. Having checked those VINs several times I have reason to question that.

#11 still exists in Ohio.

#24 was recovered in MA in 1973 and junked.

#32, #37 and #50 have not shown any registration info. They may or may not have been stolen. If they were stolen and never recovered NCIC would show them titled to an insurance company as #43 is. As they are not, other possibilities exist.

Yes, there's sales tax here in Ontario....excellent point! . I think you have to state the paid value when obtaining the 'lost' title also claim to have the car too....not just wish you did?? .

I don't think we ever made things public about the outcome of this thread. Basically, the guy who had his name on the ownerships of the 5 ZL1 Camaros was questioned by the police. He told them that he was given money by someone to go into the licence bureau (DMV) and put these cars in his name.

Once he left the licence bureau, someone had him sign over the ownership papers and walked off with them. The individual then refused to reveal to the police who the person was that now has the signed off Ownerships (Titles). Police would not persue the case any further unless the cars are found. Even though it is possible for that person to build, register and sell these vehicles, the incident has been registered with law enforcement should they ever mysteriously re-appear. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

For the past few years when you sell your car in Canada you need to get your car appraised and the buyer pays tax on that value. No more writing a bill of sale for $50. or $5,000. The Govt needed to get in on the mega buck increase car prices on classic cars. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif

That's easy to get past. Everyone knows a shop who will write the appraisal out for whatever price you want.

Another example that was not followed through by cops, I would think that someone that goes to register a bogus car is commiting fraud.

Having worked with cops on a few fraud cases, your statement is uncalled for. How much time and money do you suppose a police department should spend on a case where at best, the crime commited would have given the person who did this a slap on the wrist by some liberal judge? I will say this - the police did spend some time to investigating this and they have more information than what has been made public. Truth is, they are time and budget constrained and have to pick their battles accordingly.

Very well said Hylton. This is very true. Anyone can be gotten if the time and money are allocated for doing so. Alot can be said though for some police officers that will actually put forth a whole hearted effort to fully investigate a crime. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

According to your logic we should stop arresting criminals because the liberal judges will set them free anyway. If police do not have the time or money to deal with this petty stuff then we can expect serial numbers to desirable Canadian documented cars to mysteriously reappear on the DMV database.

Hylton, do you KNOW these officers?
How can you say this unless you KNOW the case and or officers involved? Let's face it, if cops spent as much time chasing real criminals instead of writing speeding tickets maybe we would really be reducing crime.

Oh, and as to the comments about liberal Judges, yes I agree, I am fed up with them as well. BUT, what have the cops around here started doing? They charge/accuse someone of EVERYTHING under the book for some minor infraction. I know some poor schmuck that got into an accident where the damage was $519.00. Very minor. He asked to take some pictures with his cell phone, very nice and respectuflly (I was there) and wound up being charged with reckess op, obstructing traffic, no turn signal and on and on. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif

I am hearing more and more of this crap, and I for one am fed up with the cops feeling like they are "above the law".

Even here, the last time we had this discussion, several of the law enforcement personell here (or camaros.net) said that they would not ticket a "brother" LE or family member! Admitted this on a publc board. They also see nothing wrong with taking free "spiffs" from from food stores.

http://www.wistv.com/Global/story.asp?S=7047369

It's time LE realized that they work for the people and showed a little respect for citizens. I am tired of cops pointing at Judges and Judges pointing at politicians.

Re: 5 ZL1's newly "found" titled

I've said it before and I'll say it again. When katrina hit, the legal system ground to a halt. The "system" has grown so dependant and FAT on taxes, then they OVERSPEND on MORE stuff, and fund those items with "fines", that when there were no tickets being written in the few months (and that's just a few months) when no one was here, that the legal system ground to a halt! That's just two months. No public defender money, no money for Judges to take trips for CLE, nothing. Man were they (LE, Judical, PD) screaming!
What happended next? We (the state and local officals) got "grant" money to have a 100 days of "heat" program for "public safety" to crack down on speeding.

This is no lie, God is my witness, the other day, on the INTERSTATE, I am driving to work. Like all cities, it was congested traffic. On this day, it was way slower than ever, actually only going 5mph in a 55mph zone. When I finally get up front I expect to see an accident. But no, what do I see that is holding up traffic ON THE INTERSTATE? Yep, a state trooper STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE (not on the side of the road) checking for seat belt use and brake tags (inspection stickers)!

And they are worried about MY saftey? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif

IMHO..
Obviously the RSCOPO pantywaist is the criminal who falsely registered the Vins.
I am truly embarrased that the dick-head is from Canada.
I am further embarrased that he is in any way involved in the muscle car hobby to any large degree.

I wonder if the loser changed his phone number yet...someone in Ontario should check and if he has changed it and post his new number for more people to be able to call him and say hi.
How someone can have the nerve, stupidity and gall to get angry because someone points out his illegal activity, and calls him on it, is beyond comprehension, (and also by the way proves just how ignorant the joker is).

Also, If this fellow is intimately involved with, or condoned by, that Camaro parts supplier, that certainly provides ample reason not to ever consider dealing there. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif

Yes I have talked to the detective and I know the case. I am not arguing that there are gross inefficiencies in police departments but I believe that it is a management issue more than the ground level officers that actually do the work. The officer being paid $80k in Toronto to do radar only does what he is told.

69LM1, Before I retired I always gave respect to anyone that I came across. I've never been above the law. To everyone bitching about cops writing tickets in school zones I'll say this, until you have had a child or loved one killed by a speeder and/or reckless driver, you should not complain. I have had a friend killed by a reckless driver. He left a wife and two small children behind. Just for the record I hated working traffic unless someone did something blatantly stupid in my presence. In fact I always believed that a verbal warning to ANYONE usually does the trick. On the other hand I have put a fellow police officers relative in jail basically because they thought that they were above the law. I preferred working and responding to violent crimes (armed robberies, purse snatching, etc...) I worked patrol and S.W.A.T. as a sniper for years. Even though I dislike traffic it is part of the job. Numerous felony arrest are made pursuant to traffic stops. A kidnapped woman was accidentally rescued from a car's trunk as the result of a "routine" traffic stop. Lord knows that New Orleans needs alot of help (as it always has) and probably every department could use larger street crimes units. I personally know several N.O.P.D. S.W.A.T. officers and they are more frustrated than anyone. As far as SOME cops being jerks, well that is the case every where with every type of job. There are alot of police officers that I cannot stand because of their attitudes and personalities. My point is that not all police officers are above the law, tax payer abusers. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

In reference to the free "spiffs" mentioned... I almost forgot to say that my restaurant gives law enforcement officers discounted meals and my families' bar also lets law enforcement in with out a cover charge. I do this as a means of security which is also a tax write off. Besides most law abiding patrons of my restaurant and bar enjoy seeing the officers. I feel that by doing this I'm protecting my patrons and employees alike. Most businesses around here on the north shore do this also for the same reasons. The business owners do not view this legal practice as any thing derrogatory. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif
