Mbird, the car is sitting 30 feet from me, and dangit I don't own a scanner, soooooo lemme see if I can find a way to scan some of the magazine and NHRA pic's and doc's I have. I have all original literature, NHRA doc's and articles. It's a red/white top/black guts '72 GS campaigned by Bill Trevor/Buick and driven by Dave Bensisek in 1971-1972, then sold to Pop Kennedy of Kenne-Bell fame for awhile, and onwards from there. Held the Pure Stock, Stock and C/SA records in 71-72-73. I have had it for 11 years now myself. It was hidden for about 17 years, on and off... I know, I know, it's just a Buick, but it was badass in it's day, still is actually. I've gone 9.95@136, thru the tailpipes, on motor, full interior, EVERY option but A/C.... it's a neat car, maybe not a Supercar, but no slouch either...

I mananged to pick up a really neat article from '71 on the Truppi-Kling Chevelle...that was discarded after the sale on stage.I forget which magazine it's from but it goes into detail on how they turned this car into the world beater that it was.

[/ QUOTE ]

The article you picked up on stage was titled "Big Noise From Piscataway" from May 71 Car Craft. I sent it to Chip as part of the literature that was displayed with the car. Believe it or not that article reads like a recipe to build your very own Briggs Chevelle. You woundn't think a World Champion Team would tell the world all those details while the car was still in competition.

The car did well at BJ because it is the most famous LS6 Chevelle in NHRA History. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Kevin,
Do you think it was the most famous LS-6 convert or all around most famous LS-6. I always thought Red Alert was more famous (at least in name and not necessarily credits). https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

I don't think "Red Alert" ran NHRA back then. Correct me if I'm wrong. Didn't he run AHRA or IHRA?

Where's (olredalert) when we need the facts. Pageing Bill S. come in Bill.

This car was originally purchased by famous drag racer Bob Hamilton as a gift for his wife. In time, he transformed it into the Red Alert. The beast is the former World Record Holder in SS/DA. The car is now owned and campaigned by the partnership of Terry Carney and Bill Stephenson. Bill also drives the Chevelle, beginning each pass with the unique twisting wheelstand that the car is known for. This was the best selling AMT plastic model ever, and is now available from Ertl in a die cast version. Terry and Bill have decided it is now time to pass the torch to a new owner.

It's kind of like U.S. military aircraft vs. equally or in some instances better built aircraft made elsewhere.....its all about the aviators and their world class training! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Briggs Chevelle Sells for $1,150,000

Kevin,

-----Just got back from B/J and an extra week in L/V. Wifey and I are celibrating our 28th anni. today as well.
-----Bob H ran all over the place but primarily NHRA. Thats where he held SS/DA record. First, I have to say that I have always followed the Briggs car as a friend in the Corvette world actually helped out the Briggs team on occasion years ago. Its one of my all time favorites!!!! On any given day back then the "Briggs" car could probably outrun "Red Alert" even though it ran a class lower (SS/EA to SS/DA). I think this probably has a lot to do with the professionalism of Ray Allen and the Briggs team. Bob Hamilton and his son were very much a weekend effort, but they did pretty well with what they had. With that said, its hard to play the "most famous" game here. To old racers like me the "Briggs" car is extremely memorable. To a whole generation of kids that were around when "Red Alert" was a model available just about everywhere its also pretty memorable. The model did an amazing job of promoting that old car up to a very high level.
-----For the years I had my fun with Red Alert I often promoted it as the most famous Chevelle in the world. Please remember, though, that I didnt know that the Briggs car existed back then. I dont think I would word my "famous" claims quite the same way today that I did back in the early 90s when the Briggs car wasnt on the horizon.
-----How about we just agree that both cars have quite a bit of notoriety, albeit for somewhat different reasons. With the price that the Briggs car just brought I now have to wonder what Red Alert would bring on the right day. Certainly not as much but it seems Red Alerts future is brighter than before B/J. Thinking about it, I guess we could say that about a whole lot of cars though!!!............Bill S
