Re: weak moment
I think the flywheel may be a drive pulley for a leather belt to run implements...this was before PTO's !! Not sure about an old Deere though....Whitetop...water heated under pressure beyond 212F creates steam that is useable...as long as it remains under pressure it can be controlled and used....when it's not under pressure it boils at 212 F...boiling point goes up as pressure goes up.....when you take 250 degree water under pressure and realease the pressure thtu a break in the boiler...ALL the water turns to steam NOW with bomb-like results. Imagine piloting a steam engine back then with that huge boiler in front of you...there were no ooops when it came to low water level ! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif

Re: weak moment
If I remember correctly there is a compression petcock on the back side of that flywheel, or there abouts. You open the petcock to get it on the compression stroke by turning that flywheel. That's how you start it. Most everything else, Farmall, Allis Challmbers etc, had hand cranks out the front that when they kicked back, broke your wrist. Jezz, somebody wake up moparts. He's a Deere dealer I think. We just built those big red axial flow combines,
And Bob, it's a petcock, not a pet cock. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...elairSucks.gif |
Re: weak moment
We had an old John Deere on the farm in the 50's and my dad used to grind corn off the flywheel for the animals. Hooked about a 30' belt to the flywheel and to the corn grinder. A lot of dust and noise. Man....The good old days!

I don't remember telling you what to rub Ken !!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif

Re: weak moment
I'm not a Deere expert, but most belt pulleys were seprate from the fly wheel as you had to throw them in, and out of gear. The one on our Farmall M ran off the PTO lever and you kicked the clutch to engage, or disengage. That Deere has a hand clutch, and I think the used a seprate wider pulley that should mount on the side of the frame.
Bob, studies show 90% of the male population indulges in masturbation, and the remaining 10% are liers. |
Re: weak moment
Don't interupt me dammit..I was talking to Rosy Palm......the Allis Chalmers has a belt pulley on the frame...you have to loosen a lock bolt and pull the pulley out about 3 inches to engage it and then run the PTO...pretty weird deal..

Re: weak moment
Saw one of those at the Monroe swap meet last Saturday, already sold for $400.
|
Re: weak moment
What vintage are you looking for? I know a mechanic that has one in storage at his shop... don't know if he wants to sell it, but I could ask.
|
Re: weak moment
Just looking for one that would work, it would make a nice shop-warming present for my buddy's new home shop he recently finished. A cart would be a definite bonus.

Re: weak moment
Charley is an idiot. There is no saving him!
I propose an immediate revocation of his Moderator rights, as he has proven he is insane today by buying a green AMC (!) and a FORD station wagon. Further proof of insanity is that he finds these two items AND Velcro shoes "Neat". I beg you, please, stop the insanity! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...arleySucks.gif |
Re: weak moment
I think the wagon is kind of cool actually...hey someone has to buy stuff like that....guarantee it will be languishing at your place in a couple months !!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...arleySucks.gif

Re: weak moment
Yale is gone and I had the farm tractor actually fire the other day. Didn't run but it did pop a few times. AMX is a 390 4 speed car with 50K miles. The wagon is simply amazing. Colin isjust Mr Cranky pants because he had no dinner last night and he also wanted the wagon.
|
Re: weak moment

Re: weak moment

|
Re: weak moment

Re: weak moment
Nope..They were all starting to look alike. A ZL1 clone sold for 130K. A RS Z28 with what I think was a repo crossram sold for 130K.
