Here is the Yenko clone that has been on Ebay with the Yenko block the guy bought from Yenko. This is the one that shows a copy of the check he wrote for the block. Notice the required inside out cowl seal.

Good technique by the seller if he thought of that,as opposed to say selling at Mecum in Florida. |

No need to put that grill screw in. I am showing these pics because I doubt if that kind of detail shot was ever shown while on Ebay.

Re: Mecum auction Oct. 2005
Does anyone know what lot S26 went for? That was a 1969 L89 Camaro. The description was not as detailed as the others. Did anyone know of this car before the auction?
Mecum has not posted the results and I am curious to see what it went for. SSJunkie68-69 |
Re: Mecum auction Oct. 2005
I looked at it for quite a while. The trim tag looked odd. One of those that had the numbers stamped over each other. But get this color combo on the car. Tuxedo black with a green vinyl top and black houndstooth. Didn't get the chance to see it go thru so I am curious myself. Don't recall anything concrete that said it was a real L89.

Two Tone Camaro COPO. "Chalk mark documented"

Re: Mecum auction Oct. 2005
Well, that L89 car has a fake trim tag so I wonder if it's really even an original 396 car let alone an L89 car. I believe the Gold COPO was discussed and it was revealed to be a clone.

Re: Mecum auction Oct. 2005
Darren- Thanks for posting those pics of the L89. It does show a few interesting things and I can see where Jeff is coming from with his comments. That tag does look a little out of sorts.
Also I notice the temperture sending unit is coming out of the intake manifold. That wouldn't be the way it came from the factory which gives credence to what Jeff is saying. I assume there was no "paperwork" that went with the car. Can't wait til Mecum posts the results. SSJunkie68-69 |
Re: Mecum auction Oct. 2005
For those who did not make the auction , we covered the whole Yenko collection for "V8TV" . While i kept it pretty basic ( our audience does not have the plethora of knowdledge this group has), it will give you a chance to see them up close on film. I will post when the show hits the air, should be a few weeks.
Alas we ran out of time and could not cover Charley's wagon https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif We will have the ZL 1 though. John |
Re: Mecum auction Oct. 2005
Jeff,
I'm not sure exactly what you're baseing your conclusion on that it's a fake tag, but if it's because of the overlapping characters, I can tell you that I'm seen many real tags where that happened at the plant. I'm not disputing your conclusion. I'm only letting you know the over-lapping can be legit. There is evidence from many original tags that they went through two separate stamping operations, and sometimes, the second overlapped the first. Re: Mecum auction Oct. 2005
I agree with Jeff, (it is fake)based on several factors. I rather not disclose what I base that conclusion on because the reproducers of the tags with make the corrections. There are many tell tale signs which point to it being fake.
|
Re: Mecum auction Oct. 2005
I agree with your position. I do not publically disclose the ways I spot fakes on the tags I study either.

Any interesting results on non 4-door Mopars? Patrick
|
Re: Mecum auction Oct. 2005
I heard the deal on the gold copo Camaro didnt go thru there was enough evidence pointing to it not being authentic. I have to give Mecum Auction credit for letting this happen. I bet at Barrett you would have owned the car.

Re: Mecum auction Oct. 2005
Did Hutson's Yenko collection sell complete, or was it separated?
|
Re: Mecum auction Oct. 2005
It sold as a complete collection for I think 1.75 mil.
|
Re: Mecum auction Oct. 2005
I thought the Gold COPO had Ed's Certificate and some other paper work?? I almost bid on it because I thought it very cheap but thought to myself that something had to be up with it because of the price.. Glad I went with my gut feeling! The same guys who had the COPO had a few other really nice cars there..They also had the Orange RS/Z Crossram that sold for 130k..That still blows my mind!!! I ended up bringing my LS6 and there was probably 10 others there it seemed..I always choose to bring the wrong car.

I don't know the guy but he had a Pebble Beach jacket on. Perhaps Charley knows him.

Re: Mecum auction Oct. 2005
I don't know him but I also watched him spend 400K plus on a 71 Hemi Cuda at the RM auction in Monterey.
|
Re: Mecum auction Oct. 2005
The gold car didn't have a certificate from Ed. Also, don't forget, at 1.7 mil, the total comes to $1,785,000., assuming there was no deal cut on the commission. Anybody care to venture a guess on how that would break out among the five cars?
|
Re: Mecum auction Oct. 2005
|
Re: Mecum auction Oct. 2005
Mike, is that a trick question? It is hard to get to $1.785M using known sales numbers of other cars. Certainly a big premium for buying them together.

Re: Mecum auction Oct. 2005
Yeah, it's pretty tricky alright. I'm just wondering how one would break out the relative values of the '67 vs the '68,& '69 Camaros, and, the Chevelle & Nova. For instance, is 300 each X four, plus 500 for the Nova make sense? Plus 5%, of course.

In ten years they may be worth what he paid for them. You could get a pretty nice ride for what the vig was on the sale.. |
