Now how the heck did that happen?, it looks like the truck smashed through the garage door and some how was already slightly airborn to sandwich the door between them and some how not damage the backend of the ferrari???

Re: Auto Transport

I drive past one of the terminals or lots in Pineville, NC that DAS uses to transfer cars. It appears to belong to a local towing company. Many mornings and evenings I drive past and see the classics... chevelles, mustangs, camaros, old cadillacs, mopars, etc. just sitting there in the rain with the routing tags hanging from the rear view mirrors. Recently they extended the fence height and added some electric barbed wire to keep out the bad guys...

I had Rich Lacy of Rich's Classic Transport (http://www.richsclassictransport.com/home.html) deliver a 69 Chevelle from MN to NC earlier this year. It took a little time to schedule since he is a small operation (and I was in Germany) but the car goes into the trailer when picked up and comes out when it gets to its destination.

Subsequently, Rich's service did cost about $100 more than DAS but the car was clean and blemish free when it arrived. Rich was very personable, called frequently and worked with me to make sure I was 100% satisfied before I paid.

Good luck Kim and if I see your car in Pineville, NC I'll snap a few pics and email them to you!

About 60 miles south of the Iowa line. Next it shows it at Boonville, Mo.Which is on I-70 heading east . This is about 80 miles south and 40 miles east of Maysville!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif I call these people about every day. Can't get a straight answer yet. What BS

Re: Auto Transport

Some free legal advice: call your local police and report it stolen NOW! Explain that it's not just a car, its an historic automobile/classic car/TV show prop and worth a bunch of money. With the police report in hand, then contact your local FBI office and ask for the squad that handles cargo theft and ITSMV (Interstate Transportation of Stolen Motor Vehicles). Be persistant with the FBI guys dont just talk to the duty agent and file a report, ask for the person who handles the above mentioned crimes. Usually it only takes one call from them to the shippers and the car gets delivered asap. What these bozos are doing is a common scam where the shippers will just drag you along for weeks and then they demand more money for the car or you never see it again, or they just stop answering your calls. Once the car is in NCIC (the national crime/stolen car database) fax a copy of the police report to the shippers. Then see how fast they car shows up.

Once that car was overdue and there was no sensible explaination (like bad weather) they no longer have your authorization to be possessing that car. The civil violation would be called "conversion". By retaining possession of your car and not giving it to you, they have converted it to their own use. In a civil lawsuit you would then get the punitive damages plus the value of the car. (these types of case used to happen a lot in the past where you'd go to a new car dealer to look at new cars, and give them the keys to your old car for them to evaluate it for a trade in...and they then "lose" your keys, forcing you to hang around for hours on end) That resulted in a bunch of car dealers having to pay a bunch of money in damages to the car owners, who's cars, the Court made them buy. Well, enough rambling for the moment, call the cops now!

I tried to report my 69 Pace car as stolen a few years ago and they told me it was a civil matter so don't be suprised if you get the same answer. The cops did put a call into Mr Lipke to speed him up but it didn't do any good. I finally had to hire a private investigator to find what My Lipke had done with it. Call the transport Co and let them know if the car does not arrive by Monday you are reporting it stolen.

Re: Auto Transport

sorry Kim like I said on my first post I had to call and tell them I was reporting it stolen and thank goodness I always got first and last names anytime one of the bozo's answered the phone...I left a voice mail in a few places stating I was reporting it stolen in the morning and naming all parties,,,funny but the darn thing showed the very next day. and to be honest I am pretty sure they lit the tires on it a few times while they had it. MF's!!!!!

Re: Auto Transport

Chalrey is right, it is a civil matter. Contact the police in your jurisdiction though because a call from an officer will very likely get the results that you're looking for. If worst comes to worst you'll have to hire an attorney.

There are a number of GPS tracking services, where you place a GPS unit in/on the car and then track it through a web site. I haven't used any of these services personally, but have looked into them several times.

Here's one such:
http://www.pimall.com/nais/trimtrack.html

http://www.pimall.com/nais/images/NEWGPSMAP-SAT.jpg

Something to keep in mind the next time somebody uses a service to ship an expensive and/or irreplacable car.

Re: Auto Transport

I agree. I have used Intercity several times over the past 15 years. Never any problem, always on time. The trailer that picks your car up is the one that delivers it. The driver wears a white coverall suit so as not to scratch or dirty up your car when he gets in, etc. I had one claim back in 1990 when a stone must have fallen from the tire of an upper loaded car (which actually was one of my other cars) and chipped the edge of my trunk lid. They told me no need for an estimate, just get it fixed where you prefer and send them the bill. I did and they paid it the same day they received it. Total professionals. I would use them again. (if I dont sell my Z11 soon, I will use them to send it to Barrett Jackson next January)

Probably not the cheapest but why cut corners with some of these cars?

Fills out full inspection report on the car when picked up.....calls often during the process to let you know where he's at......knows these cars as he is a collector himself....and one car at a time. Might even have put my uniform on and went over and scared the s**t out of the driver telling him that it had been reported as stolen and I was going to impound it.

Okay........since D.C. opened his big mouth........again... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

#1 - It does have tags..........just not current I-O-W-A tags

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16...931Ford012.jpg

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16...931Ford002.jpg

#2 - So we did get it a little dusty driving it around Polk County on the back roads but if you spend a good couple of hours with soap and water, it should clean right up.

My Deputy Sheriff buddies had fun chasing us around. Now they know how their Crown Vic Police Interceptors perform on gravel, dirt, blacktop, seal coat, concrete, corn fields, bean fields, pastures, back yards, parking lots, etc.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16...931Ford008.jpg

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16...931Ford009.jpg

As everyone will notice, Annie Hartwegs dog was successful in getting all the corn stalks pulled out of the front end of the car. Seems pretty solid and I honestly don't think we damaged any suspension components when we jumped it over that drainage ditch.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16...931Ford004.jpg

And rest easy Kim, I DID MAKE Cumby clean all the candy bar wrappers and beer cans out of it before I took the pictures. Besides, I needed the 5 cent pop can deposits to help finance my trip to SCR8 this year. Cumby sure can put away a lot of beer for no bigger than he is. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/shocked.gif

Unforunately, Dennis couldn't keep his foot out of the firewall and I think ya might have a little bit of an oil leak now as evidenced by the oil on the car and also on the shop floor. Dennis said if it was really serious he might be able to come up with an original LS6 454 c.i.d. engine for you out of a junker he has at his home.
