Rick with an old pump like that is there any health hazards to worry about with old gas being in the filters or anything especially with it being in the house?

Re: 260...It's A Gas!

When I found it,the Guts,(Intestine pipes) were already cut out of it in the lower inside section.
They add 100 lbs. or more to the pump and are what make the pump smell like crude oil too.
I have not noticed any foul smell with mine.
I talked to a Lot of Gas & Oil guys and all confirmed that no matter how big a Die Hard Gas pump collector you are today, removing the intestine pipes is an accepted practice,do to their weight & smell.Buyers want to display Gas pumps in their homes & Garages,so that weight & Smell will just make it impractical.
I will offer this advice,if you find ANYTHING that interests you and is Close in destination to you...BUY IT!
The time & money to package, crate and Palletize these things can exceed $400.00 with insurance not being possible.
Some guys drive across the country with a Car trailer,to personally pick up the pump of their dreams,by themselves to insure a safe delivery. When I found this pump 5 hours away in my State,I considered it in my back yard & didn't hesitate to pull the trigger.

I guess Gas pump collecting as a whole is coming into it's own right now.
Pumps and parts are recording record prices.
I am watching ECO brand air meters right now,as I had one in my Local gas station as a kid in Villa Park.I used to admire that Air Meter cranking up & sounding off when I used it on my Orange Krate and later a Chevelle.
I want one,but not at $500-1000.00 for a wall mount or Pedestal display.
Figures, just when I get interested in them! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Jack Sim Has written a Book,"An Illustrated Guide to Collecting Gas Pumps"..He is out of St.Louis & I can Highly recommend him & his Book.It starts from the early 1900's all the way up to 1965.It has many original pictures of the early Gravity Gas pumps, not many on the electric 1960's-70's Pumps that I want to know more about, but still gives you an understanding about their heritage.
He is currently writing another book that will cover 1965-1972 gas pumps.
He also is writing a book about Air meters too, that should be out soon.
This Market is tall right now.

[/ QUOTE ]Rick, I know Jack and his wife Cindy pretty well and they have alot of stuff... If you ever want to meet him, just come to St. Louis and we will go see them.. As for the guts in the pump, the early visible types would be impossible to remove considering that is part of the structure, but the later pumps from the 40's to today its no big deal if they are gone.. The last two pumps I bought still had the guts in them and I yet to take them out and get rid of the waste.. It was hard as hell moving these things with that s--t inside, plus the 50's Coke machine my wife couldn't live without.. I think my back hurt for about a month after that.. Mark

I apologize for the deleted pictures.
I needed room in my Bucket & forget those were linked here.
This is a Gas Can from the mid to late 60's I thought would show well with it.
This particular Sunoco/AC Sales Campaign was short lived,as they soon mandated gas Cans could not carry colors beyond the color Red,and Vehicles also became much more Fuel efficient too.

Re: 260...It's A Gas!

Well it only took a little over three years, but I was able to acquire all the 50 year old original Wayne 511 ground plumbing & blending components that were removed from my pump long before I found it,as well as give everything a thorough cleaning and remove the foul smell.

I refused to blast or repaint ANYTHING,as I wanted everything to be natural and authentic as it originally was.I had to be finicky and pass on components that were too far gone or badly beaten up.I had to spray each component down with oven cleaner and bake it in the oven to get the heavy varnish and residue stains off. Then wipe down very rigoursly with a light thinner & clean the mounting areas and threads to be sure all went back together just as smooth. It is one marvelously constructed engineering design that 50 years ago musta seemed Hi-tech.I am in awe of the way these were put together, and who/how they did it.My knuckles are all scraped and cut from reaching into those tight areas, but I think the results were worth it.

Now the entire pump weighs in at just over 500lbs.in these pics and could still pump a liquid today if I asked it to.The tolerances between the pipe connections are pure & true and able to withstand the psi.I even rigged up the electrical junctions to accept again.

This is the cabinet empty as I showed earlier..

A seldom seen vintage metal 1960-67 DX gas grade chart topper, before Sunoco merged with DX oil in 1968.I had to wrestle with the owner to get him to sell it to me.
SB stood for Super Boron, which was equal to Sunoco 260 grade.

Is the red guard piece on the dispenser snozzle original to these...I see what looks like a '70 date on it but what year did they come out?.

And have you already or are you going to modify it so the lights alone operate as the static display?.

I have three vintage gas pumps that serve as night lights around the garages. All three still retain ALL the original motors and plumbing. Too many people gut the old pumps so they're easier to move, especially if they're inside a garage,...... or a house, https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif but if you get them too light and easy to move, they tend to "walk away"!
If anyone wants my pumps,........ they're gonna have to work for them! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: 260...It's A Gas!

Dennis you're not alone in that thought.
I didn't really know if you guys would be that interested in this.Thank You! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
I am looking for an unmolested mate for it,now that I have the hang of it and an influx of extra parts too,but it has to be holding a 3 digit pre-oil embargo computer.I don't want a later 4 digit, which there seems to be alot more of.

I used a few other pumps as a diagram, and actually bought another crappy partial pump to remove parts off of.That and attending as many oil & gas shows as I could, especially during the winter months. If you're not there by 6AM,you mind as well turn around and head back home because anything of value will be swallowed up already.
I found the wiring schematic & parts diagram in an old Wayne Service & Assembly manual. It was very helpful, but it was the input from fellow collectors,AND especially the few original gas&oil jockeys walking among us.You know who you are..
You guys are really under appreciated in my book...and of course,YOU WERE THERE! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

There's a pic I posted on page 1 with it's lights on.The protective gun guards first came out in late 1960's,early 70's I believe & in various colors from what I've seen. This one was still holding a red one when I found it...Good eye on the date Pete. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

Don't get me wrong, collecting and acquiring anything having to do w/Chevrolet and their vehicles is first and foremost with me and always will be.But Sunoco comes after that,as it was always considered the Gas station to work at when I grew up.Their gas grades catered to the Hi-Performance leaders, and was one of the first stations to offer the New Wayne multiple blending grade pump to the general public.

While I was in the Sunoco zone,I also found something that is the perfect companion piece to this that I've been working on too and I'll post pics of that shortly.
