Re: Local Deuce Featured in the newspaper (Long)

Joe, I am glad to meet another owner of a Colonial Chevy Deuce. The reason that they had so many was that the owner, Josh Darden was a good friend of Don Yenko.I still have my original bill of sale and the window sticker. I will be glad to scan them and post them for you guys to see. I think the final price was around $3,400. I guess that was a pretty good investment. If I remember correctly, the insurance was about $300 a year for full coverage. They just didn't know what these cars were capable of doing.

'cmon Joe!! Post that pic of Glen Campbell and the colonial deuce https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Alan, did you ever see the silver race deuce that colonial sponsored?

Re: Local Deuce Featured in the newspaper (Long)

That picture looks very familiar. I didn't get to see them unload any of these cars but I did see them on display. It sure brings back some memories. I still go by Colonial about once every two weeks but needless to say there is nothing like the good old days.
Well, I have to call it a day for now but I will get those pictures and documents together and post them to see what you think. It's great to talk with everyone.

How long was it before you removed the A.I.R system after you took delivery?

Re: Local Deuce Featured in the newspaper (Long)

Yep, they used to race it at a local track called the Suffolk Raceway. It was basically the same as ours except for a set of wrinkle wall slicks on the back. They raced it in the old "gasser" category. Boy did they ever surprise a lot of people with that car.

Marlin I looked at a 69 Charger RT with those same mirrors on it at Cruise night last night.

Re: Local Deuce Featured in the newspaper (Long)

Amazing how alot of the stories from original owners move along the same lines. Kinda like finding long lost relatives. Heck until I found Marlin I only knew of 3 other deuces. Went through a lot of years wondering how many, and where they were.
Alan, did you insure your's as a non SS 300hp 350? And I assume your hp rating was cut off the air cleaner lid too. Did your's come with the underhood insulation? Schonye

blue thunder 04-13-2005 02:30 AM

Re: Local Deuce Featured in the newspaper (Long)

I tried to insure my car, at first, listing it with the 350 engine but my insurance company said that they did not have a Nova in their books that had a 350 engine, just one with a 305 engine and that 350 must have been a typogaraphical error. So I said okay, then list it as a Nova with a 305 and then the insurance was all set and affordable. Like I said earlier, they just didn't know what these cars could do. Yes, the hp rating was also trimmed off of the air cleaner label as well.As best as I can remember, mine did have the underhood insulation. It sure is interesting how different these cars are on things like that or sideview mirrors, wheels and striping.
Can someone tell me how to attach a picture to these messages on the bulletin board? I would like to let you see some old photos and my bill of sale and window sticker.
Alan

Re: Local Deuce Featured in the newspaper (Long)

Are you sure about the hood insulation? I can't imagine a Deuce would have ever had it, did ANY Nova's have hood insulation in 1970? I've had a couple70-72 Nova's and none have ever had anything but a bare underhood, and they weren't as "plain-jane" as a Deuce was. As for attaching pics, in the second screen before your message is posted, there is a box where you can attach a pic that is loaded on your computer hard drive or picture file. Would love to see what original paper you have! Got any "period" photographs from the early days? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

My 72 Nova SS has hood insulation.

camarojoe 04-13-2005 05:08 AM

Re: Local Deuce Featured in the newspaper (Long)

OK, so hood insulation WAS available, I wasn't sure on that one... but have any other Deuces been found with it? Would seem like an odd thing to have in a car with basically minimal other options... did the hood insulation come as part of another package, as on the camaros?

I can't seem to shrink the file size to less than 100kb so I can't send them on the bulletin board. If you can give me your e-mail address then I will send them to you that way.

In '72, hood insulation was included in the Custom Interior package and with the SS package (Z26).

What was the $35.00 Special Handling Fee?

Schonyenko2 04-13-2005 07:37 AM

Re: Local Deuce Featured in the newspaper (Long)

Joe, my 70 SS 396 nova had hood insulation. The deuce didn't. I got caught in a 1-2 inch snow with mine the one and only time it ever saw snow. I was the most useless car in the snow I've ever been in. Step on it and you spun, let off, and the rear end locked up. All you could do is kick the clutch, and steer.
On the insurance, I even told my agent it said Yenko on it. He looked through his book, and couldn't find it, so a 300hp 350, non SS it was. Don was right on the ad where it said "easy to insure". https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

The special handling fee was charged for security guard service to protect the general public from these monsters. (We don't get much snow in these parts.) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: Local Deuce Featured in the newspaper (Long)

That is an old photo from about 1972 so I still had the stripes on it. After that, the stripes started to crack from the sun and water started getting under them and causing rust. I had to take them off, sand and prime ane re-paint the car after that. I coldn't find a stripe kit anywhere so it stayed "plain Jane" until last year when we completed the restoration.

Awsome! It's cool to see old pictures of Deuces. I especially like the blue ones. The snow looks like Colorado today.
