479185? Hard to read, but looks like 455 eblem less GTO?

Lloyd-TX 12-29-2004 04:48 PM

Re: One Wild Pontiac

Steve:

The 479185 PN is correct. I have a NOS pair of these in the boxes. What's weird - and shows that catalogs can be incorrect - is that for 1971 it indicates that these die cast "455" emblems came on 230 (Tempest/LeMans) and 240 (GTO) body styles - WRONG! 1971 GTO 455 cars had the 455 engine callout incorporated in the vinyl GTO fender decals.

If anyone needs a full size and easier to read copy of that attachment I will gladly e-mail it to you!

Later,
"455HO" Lloyd

Steve:

I made the "mistake" of selling the other NOS pair I had about a year ago. They went to a VERY good "home" though!

I genuinely hate to hoard this stuff since I don't currently own a car they'd be used on, but I've since learned that items like these are trading material only.

Whatcha got that might be of interest for a trade? See my sig for my cars.

Re: One Wild Pontiac

Hi guys,

I know some of you from the PY and TAC boards.

I have a Lucerne Blue 72 455HO Lemans Sport convertible, factory 4-spd with no a/c. It's documented by PHS and is listed in the registry.

When I got the car, it was partially dismantled and had been wrecked on the left front. The guy I bought it from had begun to restore it.

I got one damaged fender that had the 455 emblem still on it. It was too badly damaged to be saved, so I tossed it.

At the time, I didn't realize the 455 emblems were supposed to be on the front fender for 72 455HO non-GTO A-bodies. I thought they belonged on the rocker panels.

Can somebody provide me with a template or measurements on where the 455 emblem should go?

Also, is this the same 455 emblem that was used on the big cars.

Thanks,

Mike

Several of my friends know Roger, but I have never met him. He lives about 2 hours from here. I'll talk to you in private and see what kind of trade we can work out.

Everyone thinks the emblems maybe the same, but no proof yet.

Hey Steve, where did you get that info from ? It`s great! Is is from a book that has other pertinent info?

Steve_Hoog 12-29-2004 09:10 PM

Re: One Wild Pontiac

Lloyd supplied that. I have an F body catalog some one put together, Lloyd must have the A version. These catalogs have stuff my old original GM doesn't have, but GM made so many versions a person would have to go through all to get it all.

Hey Forrest:

I found these Pontiac MPC's in CD form on e-bay. I have purchased four of them total now - '69-'74 A&G body, '67-'72 F body, '67-'76 F-body, and '76-'81 all Pontiacs. Pretty easy to negotiate, setup in a PDF format. These were scanned in from Canadian catalogs, but I have verified information contained in these CD's in my old printed MPC's. Some interesting additional Canadian only application info is shown - like 350 chebbie engines in a LeMans, etc., and "catalog" is spelled "catalogue", LOL!

I can't find the seller's information - too many PC's ago. Great stuff, though - it sure beats hauling out my dusty old paper MPC's!

Hi all, I was directed here from the PY boards, where I am known as PB. I saw this for sale too and posted there.

I too know of a 1972 GTO POST car that originally came with a 455. That car too has the emblems on the fenders.

I am local where that car is for sale, I know the owner of Wagners, so I intend to get out there and see this car for myself and get the low down on it. I've been in the middle of a move, so hopefully I can get out there soon. I will take my camera and pen and see if it indeed has an X in the VIN.

Sounds good, PB! We'll ALL be waiting for info and pics! As you prolly know, I came on here from the PY boards as well - cool stuff here!

Yes, please take pics of that car in KC.

Lloyd

I had already scanned the parts illustration out of the regular catalog, but didn't post it because it didn't show what we were talking about. But I'll do it anyway.

Re: One Wild Pontiac

Here's an OLD pic I took at one of our local Gulf Coast Trans Am Club drags - back in the early 80's. I was there with my 455SD powered '75 T/A, and had recently sold my Lucy Blue '72 LeMans GT, so this car caught my eye.

A 455 powered T41 '72 LeMans GT. For some DUMB reason, I never got a chance to look under the hood or at the VIN to see if it was an HO car or not, and I never saw the car again.

If one looks closely, you can just make out the aforementioned die cast "455" emblem on the front fender.

I just talked with Dan Jensen and he told me that they indeed should get the badges. So I stand corrected.

However, if it was a GTO, I think the case would be differently. I didn't confirm this with him.

Okay Head on over to PY website and check out the pics! Sorry I haven't figured out how to post pics here yet, so I posted them there, or here: http://forums.performanceyears.com/eve/u...6603607&p=3

I just got back from seeing the car. Boy, it sure is nice! There are some incorrect items on the car: Fender vents are circular mesh, not square, the crossover looks to be missing, aluminum sticker on the radio knob area in the bezel, center console lid has no button, some cosmetics on the grills:placement of the pontiac but hey, who notices that stuff anyway? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

But my heart fell out when I saw this.

http://www.azalea.net/~steved/181948rivot.jpg

Please some one tell me I'm wrong about the rivot. 72 had upside done regular rivots, right?

JLP 12-30-2004 10:41 AM

Re: One Wild Pontiac

The SN will be on the frame also. I would check or have someone check before sending a dime. If it is correct they should have no problem putting it up on a hoist and checking the frame for the SN.

I know nothing about rivets other than they hold stuff together. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

PB1972 12-30-2004 06:05 PM

Re: One Wild Pontiac

Nice eye on the rivot, looks like the plastic piece is missing that normally surrounds the VIN. Typically you wouldn't see the rivots with that piece in place. Obviously all that has been painted too. I wanted to check the VIN on the block to see if it matched, but I would have had to do some creeping and crawling. I had my 7 mo. old with me, so I did a quick viewing.

Steve_Hoog 12-30-2004 06:28 PM

Re: One Wild Pontiac

Last night I went in the garage to take a pic of my GT-37 star rivets and broke the plastic piece taking it off, haha.

And then I couldn't even get a good pic.
