--------You guys know best. I just have never seen anybody hang an "inside" tach out in the wind, not that you couldnt......Bill S

[/ QUOTE ]

Thats why i said it would probably last about 2 days under normal circumstances... but its definitely a SW tach, and that's been re-verified by the original owner. I agree its probably not the most ideal location for it, but hey, it gives us something to talk about 35 years later... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif it also verifies that Dixco didn't make ALL the Yenko hood tachs... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Awesome original pics... note the lack of any engine designation or HP on the factory air cleaner...were they removed, or did it never have any? cool stuff!

Re: Anyone remember this car?

What year were those pics taken? Looks like Dixco gauges under the dash, and an aftermarket Hurst shifter and boot.

SULLY 02-17-2005 12:55 AM

Re: Anyone remember this car?

Jon may want to chime in but believe
it's the original shifter. Just doesn't
show up well in the picture.

I personally like the hold-down on the engine pic! Whatever works, functionality first--that is what I like about these cars (especially the old photos of the cars "as used").

Re: Anyone remember this car?

I thought Dixco at first too, but then RAC brand came to mind?

camarojoe 02-17-2005 01:47 AM

Re: Anyone remember this car?

That stick sure looks rectangular to me. Original would have been round, and the boot is definitely not an original GM issued piece. The gauges could be RACs, The mounting panel looks identical to a Dixco one, but they could have been the same for RAC. The deuce mounting panels were black plastic, but i've had other dixcos that were chrome plated plastic like that, with the woodgrain applique as Steve mentioned. Only thing that looks sorta "non-dixco" about it is the black bezels on the gauges instead of silver, but Dixco made many styles of gauges....either way, cool interior pic...

The engine tie down is classic, I don't know how many muscle cars that I have bought over the years that have had the chain, the wire cable, or the turnbuckle engine mount option on them.

I don't know why I keep coming back to this site..lol.
I am soooooo jealous of you yenko/copo/zl-1 guys. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/Charley.gif

All the history, and cool 60's & 70's pics.

My 70 Z was apparently purchased for racing too, but I don't have any period pics.
What a find and what a great piece of history.
Mark.

Jim Your car is tuff https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif...Is it still in this form or have you restored it.....

Re: Anyone remember this car?

I was over to Jim's house this last weekend and his car is restored to original condiotn and looks awesome. I took a few pictures of it with my phone but I don't have a way to download the pictures so I can post them. If I find a way to get them downloaded I will post them. The car looks similar to the fathom green low mileage Yenko talked about on the low mileage Yenko thread. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif Jesse

Thanks to Paul Cavaseno for sending me a copy of this ad for the car when it was being sold as a race car. Just wanted to add to an old thread.

big gear head 10-22-2019 08:25 PM

All of the pictures are gone. Any chance someone could restore them?

That happened several years ago when the server was changed if I remember correctly. I will post what I have as they should all be the same shots. I restored this car around 2004/2005 and oddly enough only took about 5 photos of the restoration. Now I take about 3500 shots per car. Funny how things change.

Something else to note when people try to guess colors of cars on old pictures, the original shots were taken in its first years and appear to be a very dark blue when in fact they were a Fathom Green. Just keep that in mind when looking for old photos of cars you are researching. They may not appear to be the same color when in fact they are the same car.

Thanks Rick.
