Maybe if it was correctly painted black it wouldn't be so blatantly fake looking...

Re: COPO Camaro

Did the L-72 COPO (Yenko, etc) engines have a 19Nxxxxxx stamped on left lower bellhousing flange in ALL cases, or were some VIN's stamped on Deck along with Tonawanda assy date????? .....and if so then should not this CAJUN COPO have the car vin stamped on bellhousing flange.....regardless of block being decked

So.....am I correct in thinking that A DEALER bought the "Cajun Camaro" and is now hyping it on EBAY......I wanted to work with the original private seller, but he just would not/could not cooperate in providing FACTS.....

Re: COPO Camaro

Theres probably a reason for that but I can't tell if this is a dealer, or an owners representative that has the car up for auction.

Re: COPO Camaro

the dealer is probably trying to "broker" the car for the owner...so now they "paint " the cowl tag to make it look originalhttps://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
....and has a "BV" rear end https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
...but it is a nice restoration https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: COPO Camaro

Theres no way on earth those two tags are the same one, painted or not. One is definately a repro tag, the other looks real, but the info on both of them is the same, so if you assume the nice crisp clean one is a repro what do you gain other than a nice looking tag? Did the original get lost during the restoration and get a repro replacement, only to find the original one later, who knows, but if your bidding you should definately ask the owner (or the owners rep) what the story is.

All engine VIN's were stamped at the vehicle assembly plant. It is not normal practice during May at the Norwood plant to stamp the VIN on the engine pad of any 8 cylinder engine. It would be stamped on the rear of the engine in the rough casting area above the oil filter. If it's on the pad it's been restamped, although the owner already stated the block was decked and restamped.

Are you sure thats even a pic of the actual trim tag? It almost looks like a rubbing, or a negative image, or something? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

I went out and looked at this car. Awesome resto! As far as that trim tag goes, man I hope that the "broker" is placing that there as the owner really seemed like a nice guy.
He also had a 70 or 71 Monte Carlo SS454, whew! Nice car.

-------Is it possible that this fella was obsessed with perfection and just wanted a perfect tag along with everything else on the car? I mean c-mon, look at the resto. I know guys in the Corvette world that are that anal. Not saying its right, just asking if its possible, as its one hell of a nice ride!...........Bill S

Re: COPO Camaro

That's what I was thinking Bill. The original tag was beat up so he got a new one made by Trim Tags to match the old one. If that's the case, it's no big deal(IMO). But did you notice how big the spread is in body numbers between the car being discussed and this latest post? 05C and 05E with a difference of 40,000 + on the body number?

Re: COPO Camaro

Actually, I went out and saw that car. It is here in Houma, Louisiana. The problem is that the block was decked, then restamped. The rear is a not a BE, and then there is the trim tag. I personally do not know if it is a real CoPo or not, but for that kind of money I would want to know!

And now that picture of a trim tag that is not the one that is (or was a few weeks ago when I went out to look at the car) on the car? Why the change if it is legit? The owner really seemed nice, and if I asked a question, did not aviod the answer. I wonder if the person selling the car for him posted that trim tag pic?

Did you ask him if it was a clone? Did he do the resto or did he buy it as it sits? I would think whoever restored the car would know what it was when they started the resto. Are there any pics of this car before or during its restoration?

Re: COPO Camaro

I have been looking at the pictures side by side carefully. Is there any way that the pic on the auction (with the painted tag) could have been taken shile the tag was off during resto and they "cleaned it up" by stripping the paint off somehow before they put it back on? The offset of the ST and BDY/PNT lines look very similar, if not exact.

Re: COPO Camaro

"Did you ask him if it was a clone? Did he do the resto or did he buy it as it sits?"

yes, and his response was that he would not guarantee anything. He *thought* it was a copo. He is sure that he got the car with a numbers matching (the vin on the deck?) 427 in it. Then during the restoration and engine rebuild, the block was "restamped" exactly as it was.

Also, the intake is not an GM aluminum one, but painted gray. He does have a original GM/Winters intake date coded near the car, but it is not on the car (has some issue if I remember?)

He had it restored by a guy in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. From what I understand, for big dollars. I mentioned 50 grand and he smiled and said "Much More".

At that time, he said his cash price was 75k, if I remember correctly, so the reserve is getting close.

Again, great looking car. Not a drop of oil.

The owner of the COPO sent me 3 or 4 emails last year, offering the car to me for 90k.
