Re: Food For Thought....
It's a valid question Gem...I just wonder if these types of things are exclusive to a broker...Rich also has a list....do brokers beat the bushes to "list" things ?
|
Re: Food For Thought....
There are a few cars on that list that I would think couldn't be touched. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Pretty amazing to me if they actually sold.
|
Re: Food For Thought....
As far as I know, the cars on that list are still available, Bel Air, you know I cant read so they are not out of hemmings, they are from multiple private collections. Any interest in a specific car contact me by PM or Email.

Re: Food For Thought....
I think what belair is asking is, are you personally hired by the owners of these cars to represent/broker them, or are these just cars you know are for sale?
|
Re: Food For Thought....
From what I've read, Matt contacted car owners and told them he had a buyer and asked them if they wanted sell and maybe talked them into selling. Now Matt isn't happy the buyer isn't interested.
I have never delt with an auto broker but have for realestate. If you are going to be a broker, you have to deal with not getting paid directly for a lot of the footwork you do. The payoff is structured such that when you make a sale the commision covers all the efforts prior to that point. If you can't accept the fact that not everyone that you come in contact with will result in a sale and you feel the effort was for nothing you need to get out of sales and get a job that pays by the hour. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |

Sorry but I have to respectfuly disagree: Did you ever hear the term "no body rides for free"? If a collector has the $$ to pony up for a search to be conducted for Big dollar cars- then He/She better have the Dollars to back the cost of the search. Your theory will work for items that are currently inventoried (dealer trades New/used or common used cars) but a list of high dollar super cars - I think not. If anyone on this board will locate an entire list of high value supercars cars at risk (your expence) please let all of us know! You will save everyone here time and frustration. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: Food For Thought....
Joe,
The situation varies based on if a client wants to sell or buy. A seller will personally contract a broker to sell their car, just as in real estate. A buyer will hire a broker to locate a certain make, model, etc, in that case the success of a broker is based upon his knowledge of the collections, collectors, and even owners of a sole individual car, such as the Hemi Dart on the list which belongs to a friend who has owned it since 1970. A good broker will also be knowledgable in the industry to make certain his buyer is getting a legitimite car that has been restored or repaired correctly, some such as myself will even go as far as to accept liability for the authenticity of the car, and also do exhaustive research on owner history, accident history, etc, etc. The brokerage fee is always discussed and agreed upon in advance, as to who will be paying the fee, the buyer, seller, or both. On most occasions a retainer is paid in advance unless the broker feels comfortable enough with the clients not to require the advance fee. Dennis, as with any service industry their are no guarantees that a particular car will be sold by the broker, or a particular car located by the broker, in which case there will normally be no charge. However, if the broker fullfills the request of the client, such as the sale of a high end car, or the location and negotiations of one or more sought after cars, the broker should certainly be paid. You buy stock, you use a broker, you buy real estate, you use an agent, and on and on. If you choose not to do so and light out on your own to buy or sell, then you find out you were cheated on price or sold a fake car....well shame on you for not using a professional that could and would have handled all the details, search, research, etc. The problem with the current situation is the so called buyer never had any intention of buying, on good faith I did not require a retainer, and six weeks of lies, games, and BS ensued which was costly to me in time and money. I have recently discovered the same individual is about three weeks into the same exact lies and games with another broker at this very moment. I have no problem with not being paid for my services should I fail in providing what may be required, but I do have a problem with wasting six weeks on someone who is merely playing games. More Food For Thought......... MadMan https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/mad.gif |
Re: Food For Thought....
I would just post the bastards name and that would scuttle his little game that he is obviously playing. Reminds me of the fool that was listing his model cars and had eveybody thinking they were the real cars.
I feel that you are being foolish not letting everybody know who he is. He has obviously been given time to come through on at least one of these cars so let the bastard suffer his folly. He came to you! Its not like you were trying to sell him something out of the blue. He has no defense. People like him need to be exposed. He owes you money for your time and he should pay up. It just might put a stop to his game with others. At least they will be aware of him and his game. You have no danger of him coming back on you if you just tell the truth. |
Re: Food For Thought....
No...I don't think you need to tell us who you are dealing with....this is a personal problem...we don't need to worry about brokers business affairs...besides...I'm sure there are 2 sides to the story...and there is no real need to hear about it on this forum.Maybe all the brokers ought to get together and form a "black list" https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/Charley.gif
|
Re: Food For Thought....
We don't have to agree https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif ...but I feel if a broker isn't securing a contract in writing (a handshake or verbal agreement can be binding but you are setting yourself up for complications) then there is no commitment by the buyer. The deals that go down can be larger than buying a house. Look at the realestate folks and the protections put in place so deals don't go bad. I know car collectors don't want formal rules cast on them making transactions more expensive than they already are. I just think if a broker doesn't cover his butt before placing himself in the middle of a deal it's his fault if the deal goes south.

Re: Food For Thought....
Unfortunately it may have come to that.
Used to be a mans word was his bond. Well I guess we can see the character of the schiester who held up Motown. To me he deserves to be exposed. IMO |
Re: Food For Thought....
Bel Air,
I agree and disagree with your last post. Naming the person in public I dont believe correct as it does not affect everyone here. However, it could and most likely will affest someone here in the future. As for it being a personal situation, that is not entirely correct. A personal problem is something such as you having an affair with my wife...... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Anything that could affect so much as even one person in this hobby is not a personal problem, it is information that can either be accepted or not....take what you want and leave the rest behind. These type of people deal with more then just brokers, they also deal with individuals. As for two sides to every story, while that may be true with many things, that is certainly not the case here, if anything I have been very conservitive with my remarks. It certainly was not a problem with me or my business tactics as Tom Clary had posted that the Z convert was available and if anyone were interested to contact him to be forwarded to the owner.None of the cars that were interested have been bought or inquired about from this so called buyer. Nor has he come forward with any explanation. While I chose not to name this person publicaly from a character standpoint it seems in the past to have been a normal practice on this site, e.g., the Alberta Yenko Cloner, Dennis Tuttle, etc, etc,. As with any hobby or business, those involved should stick together to protect one another, we are all we have to protect one another. If any of the readers here are involved in a transaction or plan to be or would like facts for their own use, contact me by Email or PM if you wish to know the details or identity. By the way Bel Air, as hard as you may have tried, my wife is not leaving me for you. She cant stand cigar smoke! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Motown https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Food For Thought....
Well Mo....I think we put some controls in place around here to keep it more civil...The guys you mentioned actually owned the cars they were selling so that would be a different situation altogether. This is a personal business deal...just keep the crap offline...and please check and see if you can find a pair of old Reeboks around the house... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif

Re: Food For Thought....
Way too much laundry being hung-out on this post. Doesn't this kind of talk make getting together at Supercar Reunions difficult. I mean it is a small group, and you are bound to run across one another from time to time, so how do you keep the peace? I log on from time to time and this type of talk makes me uncomfortable about the club's appearance.

Re: Food For Thought....
I've met a few of these guys in person, and you have evry right to be concerned about their appearance. Especially Bel Air. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif

Re: Food For Thought....
Mas...I plan on being armed.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif actually if you read a lot of this stuff...most all of it is in good spirit...some of it makes for a good read ! It stays pretty civil around here....some of the other sites get pretty foul..if it gets out of hand we put a foot on it....

Re: Food For Thought....
Wow....Huffy....I used to have one of those in the mid 80's! Was blue with those pads on the handle bars and the vertical bar that went from the seat to the bottom of the handle bars! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
