Don't rule out the TH400 on a 1970 L78 Camaro just yet..Charley hint hint. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif [/ QUOTE ] I am a little skeptical about the white L78 with the TH400; it may very well be 1 of 1 but until he comes up with a build sheet as far as I am concerned that car is a Conversion. I don’t understand what the problem is with showing it, https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif I have been in this hobby long enough to know that anything is possible, Even a 70 SS/L78 with a TH-400. I have also learned that talk is Cheap, I hope that one day he will show it and it is for real. That would really be something to trace back to see how and who had it built. L34 Camaro’s had 2 fuel lines going to the pump. Only the LT1 and L78 solid lifter engines with a Holly had a single line. Mark L |

but until he comes up with a build sheet as far as I am concerned that car is a Conversion. I don’t understand what the problem is with showing it," He has come up with a build sheet. He has shown the build sheet to many people. He has brought the build sheet to Camaro club meetings. The people I know that have seen it are smart enough to know a fake. The guy has absolutely no reason to make it up. He does not want his build sheet out there all over the net. He has dug his heels in about giving it out partly because of all the experts saying he is faking it. Come to Ca and ask to see it . He will probably show it to you but I don't think he is gonna let you make a copy of it. He drives the car to club events sometimes for everyone to see. I myself have not seen it yet because each time he has brought the sheet to a club meeting in his folder of paperwork on all his cars I have not been there. I'll still bet anyone 5,000.00 that the build sheet is real. Any takers ? |
Re: 1970 L-78 Camaro
Charlie it was my understanding that he would not show the build sheet to anyone. Bob Routt offered to fly out at his own expense to validate Jack’s car. Hear is a quote from Bob. (((“I have offered to fly at my expense to look over and document the car and look at the Build Sheet. When it came crunch time the owner backed out and was never heard of again”))) Charlie You are well respected by myself and the rest of the Musclecar/Supercar community and if the day ever comes that you can get a glimpse of the paperwork on Jacks L78 and YOU agree that it is real I will then be a believer and I am sure the rest of the people that also share my opinion will agree that it is in fact a 70/L78 with the (M40) option. The one thing “We do all agree on” is that it is a Very Nice Car. I don’t blame him for keeping his paperwork confidential and not posted all over the internet……………… Mark L Jack’s L78 Camaro http://www.camarogenerations.com/mem...jackwhite.html |
Re: 1970 L-78 Camaro
Im confused, thought we were talking about the orange camaro in colorado. It's easier to keep track when only talking about the car this tread is about. Roger
|
Re: 1970 L-78 Camaro
You're right Roger.
We are referring to a white 1970 L78 Camaro in calif.,that was talked about on this site in the last year or so. Of the 600 1970 L78 Camaros built,it was always "Assumed" they were all manual trans. cars, but this White camaro has a TH400. |
Re: 1970 L-78 Camaro
I thought we were talking about the orange Camaro here in Colorado also...
Prolly need to get a different thread going on the white one...even though it isn't for sale really. Right? Oh well, I don't care either way. I'll shut up and sit back with my popcorn! If someone needs more info on the orange one, let me know. From Nasty Z28,etc, I see that there is no 2nd gen. registry...so I'm not gonna go yap at the dealers for info if nobody really wants it. I can't afford the car right now, so I don't want to waste their time! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif I do love the knowledge on this board. You guys are amazing! |
Re: 1970 L-78 Camaro
My Bad, I guess I got a little off the original subject, Hey at least it was an L78. John you have my email keep me posted on the Colorado Camaro. As Chuck mentioned earlier it will be tough to prove if it is an LA car, Try to get someone to open the hood so you can check the trim tag and fuel line. Someone in the area has to know owns that car if it has been sitting for all of them years. Thanks for your effort John Mark L |
Re: 1970 L-78 Camaro
Mark,
No problem on the help! I wasn't trying to sound cranky...I just don't want to post info in this thread if people are really more interested in the white one. It is totally cool with me either way. I just don't want to keep bringing up the orange Camaro if nobody cares about it....that's all! I enjoy this board immensely and hope to be a contributor of more substance down the road. Right now I just like to watch the expertise and dream a little. I emailed CCO and asked them what the scoop is with that car and what they have/had to prove it's originality. I agree, someone has to know who owns this car. I'll dig into it more and see if I can figure it out. If CCO doesn't get back to me via email pretty quickly, I am just gonna run by there or call. I'll probably give them to COB on Monday and stop by there or call Tuesday. I just want to know for myself. I'll post whatever info I get. If CCO is not selling the car, I am going to see if they'll divuldge who owns it. I just cannot see how an original 70 L78 could have sat that long where it is and why no sale signs were never put in it. If I have to get into VIN searching, I might be able to check with a few law enforcement buddies. What is decking a block anyway? Sorry for the noob question. I just don't know what it is. I think the original ad said they had the original "block" which to me means just the block (that has been decked). I know that the aircleaner is enough of a bear to get..how bad are the other parts to get if everything else is original except the motor/block? If the block is decked and that's all they have, someone might as well look for a complete NOM setup, I suppose. |
Re: 1970 L-78 Camaro
Decking a block means the machine shop milled off a certain about of material to make the block level or flat so the cylinder head has a better seal. When the block is milled they are coincidentally taking material off the same surface that the original suffix codes /vin number is stamped into that matchs that block with the original vin of the body. When that is lost you actually can't say it "numbers matching" again. If they didnt mill an excessive amount off there are ways of being able to read the "lost" numbers/letters but thats another story in itself.

Thanks DS! Much appreciated. Sorry for the novice question.

Re: 1970 L-78 Camaro
Scotty Karate.... Has there been any news regarding this orange car? It seems that the interest in this vehicle has died.

Re: 1970 L-78 Camaro
I haven't heard anything from Cool Cars Only. I've been busy starting a new job and with the holidays, I haven't paid much attention to this board. Sorry. To all of those who PM'd, sorry for taking so long to reply. I never use that feature and forgot about it. You can email me anytime though! I had emailed them a few weeks ago asking what proof they could provide as to originality since the block had been decked (according to them in their original ad) and have heard nothing from them. I am hesitant to go by and "demand" proof when I am just a tire kicker myself, technically. If someone does have a serious interest in this car (1 member seemed to), I don't mind stopping by and talking with them. That said, the member who seemed interested seemed like they were going to call Cool Cars Only, so I thought I'd leave it to them at this point unless they specifically ask me to stop by. The car is actually on private property, so I don't want to climb underneath it and start pulling codes. Standing by it and taking pics is one thing, monkeying with it is another. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif
I am trying to make sure that if someone is interested in the car, I don't screw it up for them and at the same time help them determine if this thing is real. All while not being a tire kicker and making someone mad. Heck, I haven't even driven by to see if it is still there. Maybe that member has already came by and grabbed it. |
Re: 1970 L-78 Camaro
IT”S BACK!!!!!
A member hear brought this car from Cool Cars last year. I still have not seen the pictures of the engine stampings that I asked for. http://www.dealsonwheels.com/search/...-200604-000001 |

Based on build sheet the Camaro should have had PO2 wheel covers and no spoilers. What do P02 wheel covers look like?

Re: 1970 L-78 Camaro
I see no Tonawanda "CKO" deck stamping or VIN # on bellhousing flange.....??????????
PO2 caps were seldom ordered (IMHO) because the much more poplular rally wheels(ZJ7)were half the cost http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...0Caps/14x7.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...0Caps/30_1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...lveHolejpg.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...s/BabyMoon.jpg |

Thanks to all,
Curiosity got me to read the whole thread. I learned a Lot and just wanted to say, this is what makes this Board so great. Lots of Knowledge and people willing to share. Hope the Orange car goes to a good home. Thanks Draginwagon... |

It's interesting that the auction says that the 454 is a "excellent running engine". However, from the interior shot the car looks barely drivable. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
