That's neat, they wrote engine code there. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Re: Looking for 73 Trans Am Super Duty pics

LS 2 is common for the SD cars in 73 on the rad support. I think the valve under the engine may be some Calif. emissions type thing, Nice car.

Interesting valve that I have never seen, is there a GM type casting on it?

Re: Looking for 73 Trans Am Super Duty pics

I will go take it off and get a better look.. Since the Pontiac guys don't know, I wonder if it is the remains of one of those quick oil drain things....

Steve_Hoog 01-18-2004 04:16 PM

Re: Looking for 73 Trans Am Super Duty pics

That looked fuel line related, and for it to mount on the timing cover like that with the angle it makes me wonder. Not too many aftermarket companies would engineer that funny angle.

I took it off and cleaned it. It is not a oil change thingy. The large cup section has a freeze type plug in it Here are better pics.

could that be what's left of a block heater that had heater hose connected to it? They had a heat coil and 110 cord to plug into the house.

Charley Lillard 01-18-2004 07:27 PM

Re: Looking for 73 Trans Am Super Duty pics

No.. It is complete the way you see it. The fuel lines run right by it so I'm thinking maybe the fuel hose or fuel return hose was supposed to hook up to it. Maybe some type of accumulator..The bolt holding it looked to be factory. Wierd.

As you can see, Bud has been looking at his avatar just a little too long!!!

I don't know what it is, but I'm curious. I will ask our shop foreman first thing tomorrow, he's been working on the Pontiacs since early 70's. If it's factory, hopefully he'll know.

Charley That part is an accumulator The V-8s had a gasline knock that sounded like an engine knock This was installed at assembly line to cure the problem The 73 Pontiac manual shows the gas hoses routed thru the accumulator

Charley I bypassed some accums because of gas leaks,so i wouldnt hook it back up. I spent a few years at a Pontiac dealership.

Bwag is right on, there was a campaign on this even. Partech is trying to find the campaign number and part number for you. I'll let you know if they have any luck. Our records only went back to 84.

The 69 RAIV TAs are really special cars. I've had my 69 RAIV TA, since 95. It is a all 100% #s match, superclean rustfree car. I had a concourse resto done w/all nos. These cars have really gone out of site. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Re: Looking for 73 Trans Am Super Duty pics

I have what may be a stupid question but here goes anyway. My parents bought a 1973 Trans Am, red with white interior, 4-spd A/C, a really nice car. Here's the question; I noticed in Charlie's pictures that his car has A/C but there are no A/C vents in the engine turned dash applique like my parents car had. Would this be something specific to the SD cars or was the A/C added by the original owner?

My Lift is a Backyard Buddy. Got engine pretty much apart today and water sitting in a cylinder had rusted the cylinder wall so engine would only rotate till it ih the rust buildup. Std bore.

big exhaust manifolds. There is no provision to put a couple of exhaust bolts in because they are so big.

Very clean inside overall. Do all the Pontiac blocks have all that webbing around the lifter bores ?

It always amazed me how bad the Chevy exhaust manifolds are compared to the Pontiac exhaust.

Ram Air Restorations makes an excellent repro manifold with the additional bolt features. Looks much https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gifbetter than original. True 2.5" outlet too...

Buzilla..Does Ram Air Restorations have a web site ? Paceme..The one cylinder was pretty pitted so it will need to be bored.

yellowjudge 02-01-2004 04:08 PM

Re: Looking for 73 Trans Am Super Duty pics

Your orig. manifolds will be a 5 bolt. RA resto makes the 5 bolt SD, as a repro. The RAIV & 455HO 70-2, had the three bolt design. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif
