Re: York 30 Show
Is the show 2 days? I am thinking that if our trek to the Reunion is successful this year, I might be able to talk LaDonna into going to this show next year. After all is is only 600 miles further than Collinsvile!! Jim

Re: York 30 Show
HI Who was the other (racer?) sitting next to Bill Jenkins in the picture? Joe Tryson used to be one of the mechanics... Thanks for the picture!

Re: York 30 Show
HI Bill Jenkins was running that little white Vega at the track for a WCS Meet. I asked him for his autograph and handed him a Two Dollar bill. He immediately said "where did you get that from, the horse races?" I mumbled something and then he signed it for me!
While some here wonder if they have their motor painted the right shade of orange; all the Jenkins motors were painted black. From camshafts to the bore and stroke Jenkins was the master of the "unfair advantage" before Roger Penkse even thought of it. Regards, |
Re: York 30 Show
Hello Charles,
"unfair advantage"--such a harsh term---Ingenuity-sounds much nicer---Catch me if you can--is the name of the game. -----JoeG |

Re: York 30 Show
For those inquiring, my buddy Motown Matt was a no-show at the York show! I was there, so if you were there Matt - I must have missed your visit. True to your post on the Nova board, the show was very interesting - even without your royal presence

Re: York 30 Show
That Bronze 1968 Z/28 is Jerry MacNeish's. He solidly has the car in the 10.80's zone this year. Runs NHRA Div.(1).

Re: York 30 Show
Did Jerry run at the US Nationals at Indy the year before last? Or maybe at Las Vegas last fall? I'm sure I remember seeing this car running in stock...

Sam, Jerry ran it at Las Vegas and Pomona last fall.

Re: York 30 Show
I could not believe my eye's when I walked into the building. I didnt know which way to go(left or right)Like a little boy in a candy store. This was Very impressive and if I new this was going to be this good I dont think I would have gone to the Mopars at Carlisles. The DH car was drop dead gorgeous and couldnt take my eye's off this car
I was Very impressed with Brians restorations. Hands down some of the best work I have seen in years. Brian thanks for your time after the worm up LOL !! The best is after the trophy's when the guy said its 9:30Pm and we have to be out by 10:00Pm. Watching them start up and the sounds in the building made you feel fuzzy all over. I know where I will be next year. Thanks guys !!! |
Re: York 30 Show
RichP, did you buy any cars at the show?
Yea, the breakdown at the end is the best part, but unlike VetteFest there are no 'smoke' activities upon exiting the building The next best part is watching the cars come in on Thurs. and Fri. I think next year the show will start earlier, so the setup will be compacted - should be interesting! If there is one show that makes me desire a Ford it is this show! It takes a few months to wear off, but right now I have an itch for a 63.5 R-Code Galaxie And I may have just found one while driving over to my shop the other night |
Re: York 30 Show
Had a GREAT time at York. Thanks to Mo, who had the engine purring like a kitten (well, a loud kitten), Joe, who was brave enough to get into the car and help fire it, Brian, who put everything together, Mark, who had to move his car each time we fired the FC, all the other sYc members who were on hand to help with the car, and Shor, for his hospitality while dropping the car off in NJ. And, what topped the weekend off was when it was announced that the Supercar Registry won the "Best of Show" award. The York show is a must attend event and I hope to be back next year.

Congradulations to all those who participated and special thanks for the members that helped coodinate this event and shared the photos for those of us that could not make the event ......in fact, I think I'll go have a cold one for you right now.

Re: York 30 Show
Marlin, I think Ben looked right at home in the big ol' Galaxie. Those cars have a lot of eyeball. They are very hard to find parts for. The FE engines are cool, but the initials stand for F*#@ing Expensive. Rich P you are welcome to hang around the Registy. I enjoyed our talk and I am honored you enjoyed the DH 427 and the COPO. I know you have seen a lot of cars. I am looking forward to next years show...BKH

Can anyone supply me with the Owners name of the 1969 Burnished Brown L78 Survivor Chevelle that was at this Carshow?

Re: York 30 Show
Does anyone who attended the show recall seeing a very large Hurst Shifter made out of wood on display with one of the old Sox & Martin Cudas?

Re: York 30 Show
Bill,
I wasn't there but the piece you describe was in the hands of Vaughn Bright with the '68 S&M car. A friend of his made that in shop class in High School and has held on to it all this time. Vaughn took it to York to get Linda Vaughn to autograph it for the owner. |
Re: York 30 Show
Hi Dennis,
Yes, you're right. Actually, it was freshman college art class and I know because it was my roommate Fred Gass that made it You can tell where our minds were really at in college! Every time I visit him we joke about that thing. He called me over the weekend to tell me the story about Vaughn taking it to York and getting Linda to sign it. Fred & his wife almost threw it out a couple months ago but he decided to just keep it out in his garage, and that's where Vaughn saw it. |
Re: York 30 Show
Just watched a tape of the 1963 nationals, they showed the 63 model of this car going through tech, they put it in A factory experimental class. The narrator states that "the driver from Pennsylvania always has one of the top cars in the nation".

Re: York 30 Show
Toner,
The '63 model of "that" car you photographed is parked right behind the '62 in your photo. It's the Ol' Reliable IV '63 Z-11, now owned by Don Fezell. Verne |
Re: York 30 Show
Verne, I didn't make the show, I linked to the picture that SupercarKid posted. Been watching tapes of the 59 and 63 nationals and remember seeing the 62 Old Reliable II posted here. Also watching Gasser Wars from the early 60s', too cool.

Re: York 30 Show
How do I make some York show pics smaller so I can attach them?
|
Re: York 30 Show
M:
You need an editing program. I've got Adobe Photoshop 5.0 which is good, and has a LOT of features, but I still use the old Paint Shop Pro v3 more than anything. Do you have a program already, or need one? |
Re: York 30 Show
My Dummies' Guide to Resizing Digital Camera Photos for Posting on the Web:
STEP 1: Copy the photo from your camera to your computer. Double-click the filename to open your photo editor. STEP 2: Find the menu command to RESIZE the photo. Change the picture's width to, say, 800 pixels. Don't worry about height. STEP 3: Find the "Save As..." command under the File menu. There should be a compression setting there--pick HIGH compression for smallest file or MEDIUM compression for better picture quality. Press Enter to save the file under a new name (preferred), or the same name as before. The file you created in Step 3 is the one you want to post on a website or email to others. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: - RESIZE THE PICTURE TO NO MORE THAN 800 PIXELS WIDE - "SAVE AS" A NEW FILE, USING MEDIUM TO HIGH COMPRESSION - SHARE THE NEW FILE WITH OTHERS If you follow these instructions, a typical 360K digital photo will shrink down to 30-50K (depending on compression you pick) with no appreciable degradation in picture quality. That's a 90% savings. Whoopee! |
Re: York 30 Show
Hmmm... what if the pictures were regular stills that I scanned in as JPEG's?
|
Re: York 30 Show
Same procedure. Double click to open, set desired width, save with compression.
