Hopefully, you got a discount on the labor rate, since it seems he used it as "fill in" work...
It shore is purdy on the dyno...

napa68 10-14-2025 12:35 AM

I still love me a good dyno session:grin:

Congrats!

I'm trying to keep the "stock look", you know, LS = Looks Stock, so I went with Trans-Dapt Performance Reproduction #TRD 9916. You can see them in the video in post #5.

Thanks Bruce!!

You do remember that every time I saw Dave he always asked me when I was going to sell my Nova to him. And I always told him that my son was going to get it when I'm "gone." To which he always replied, "I'll take care of your son"!!:tongue:

I DO remember those conversations! :)

'69Novajoe 10-16-2025 12:59 AM

So, no guesses????:dunno: Well, to not keep you in "suspense" any longer.....

It took a little “tuning”, or should I say, parts “swapping” to make it all happen. The very first pull of the day was 511 hp and 510 tq, which I was excited to see. But it seemed like my "old" mechanical fuel pump wasn’t keeping up with the rpms, so they bypassed it with their fuel system. Also my distributor seemed to be “breaking up” so they installed one of theirs. After that it produced 549 hp and 517 tq figures!! I was really “pumped” at that point!!!

I dig the stock look! It’s only a 300 hp 350 with headers….:) Nailed it!

Yes, that's exactly the "look" I was going for!!

One thing I was holding off on was having the headers coated like I previously said. I also wanted to have bungs installed in case I wanted to hook up some 02 sensors down the road. I decided on basic black, which I think came out “killer”. And the welding done by a good friend was perfect!!

Another area I had to address was installing the flywheel, new pilot bushing, clutch assembly, bellhousing and transmission. Who knew that finding a “good” pilot bushing was going to take some doing??!! In my research I found out that sometimes; after installing them, the ID closes up a little bit. Well that’s exactly what happened to me!! My engineer neighbor actually 3D printed a dowel to use as a “go gauge” to check it before we tried to test fit the trans. I ended up having to buy the correct size reamer to remove a few thousands of an inch!! He then made me a drilling guide to ream out the bushing and everything finally went together like it should!! Notice I used allen headed studs to “hang” the trans on to help with installing it. I also used some for the valve covers and headers!!

Here I was starting to mock up the fuel lines from the new mechanical fuel pump. If you remember from the dyno session, it was determined that my old pump wasn’t able to keep up, so I went with this Edelbrock unit #1721.

Attachment 293753

Also notice the plate for installing the motor is bolted on?? Yep, it was about time to install it!!

Attachment 293754

I also forgot to mention that we weren’t able to save the original Edelbrock Performer RPM intake from my old engine and went with a new Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap #7501.

Continuing on with the alternator, which needed a completely different upper bracket due to the new Air Gap intake. And notice I was trying to keep the stock type fuel filter.

Time to get the new Cold Case aluminum radiator painted up and installed. Along with heater hoses, clutch fan and shroud. I was trying to keep everything aluminum as much as possible. So, we have an aluminum intake, aluminum heads, aluminum water pump, aluminum heater core and even aluminum heater hose fittings!! It’s beginning to take shape but more “issues” are on the way!!!

Actually I don't even know how I came up with that idea!! I just didn't want to mar up the beautiful job they did with the black ceramic coating!!

And thanks for the kind words Tim. If anything I'm posting helps anyone I'm very happy!!

Joe, did you not use the pilot bushing that came with the Centerforce clutch? Mine came with a roller bearing pilot bushing.

Mine didn't come with a bushing or bearing. I've heard different opinions about using bearings, which is what I had in my other motor. Some say they can lose their "lubrication" and seize up??!! So, I just decided to go "stock" and use a bushing. A lot of the ones I found were magnetic, which is not what you want in a bushing. The one I was after was an "oilite" type, but settled for some sort of "bronze" one.

big gear head 10-31-2025 08:03 PM

AutoGear sells the good oil impregnated pilot bushings. I bought a piece of oil impregnated bronze and make my own. I've had to make some non standard sizes.
