----Great build! What valve covers are you going to use for clearance?....Bill S
|
Hopefully, you got a discount on the labor rate, since it seems he used it as "fill in" work...
It shore is purdy on the dyno... |
I still love me a good dyno session:grin:
Congrats! |

Just for fun, any guesses on what we ended up with, hp and tq???:hmmm: |
Love this build...and our buddy Dave us smiling from up above :) :worship:

You do remember that every time I saw Dave he always asked me when I was going to sell my Nova to him. And I always told him that my son was going to get it when I'm "gone." To which he always replied, "I'll take care of your son"!!:tongue: |

I DO remember those conversations! :) |
So, no guesses????:dunno: Well, to not keep you in "suspense" any longer.....
It took a little “tuning”, or should I say, parts “swapping” to make it all happen. The very first pull of the day was 511 hp and 510 tq, which I was excited to see. But it seemed like my "old" mechanical fuel pump wasn’t keeping up with the rpms, so they bypassed it with their fuel system. Also my distributor seemed to be “breaking up” so they installed one of theirs. After that it produced 549 hp and 517 tq figures!! I was really “pumped” at that point!!! |

Awesome numbers. Can't wait for a ride in December!!!
|
Nice torque curve! Almost as flat as Illinois
|
Nice numbers!!
|
And, in case you're wondering what it looked like and sounded like....here ya go!!!
|
Love a good dyno flogging! Engine sounds killer!!!
|
Love the dyno session!!
|
It sounds like it's gonna eat everything!!! :3gears:

But, now that it's home is when the real "fun" starts......
Attachment 293646 Attachment 293647 I'm not sure what all these numbers mean?? Maybe someone can let me know?? Attachment 293648 Attachment 293649 Shades of things to come..... Attachment 293650 |

I dig the stock look! It’s only a 300 hp 350 with headers….:) Nailed it!

One thing I was holding off on was having the headers coated like I previously said. I also wanted to have bungs installed in case I wanted to hook up some 02 sensors down the road. I decided on basic black, which I think came out “killer”. And the welding done by a good friend was perfect!!

Another area I had to address was installing the flywheel, new pilot bushing, clutch assembly, bellhousing and transmission. Who knew that finding a “good” pilot bushing was going to take some doing??!! In my research I found out that sometimes; after installing them, the ID closes up a little bit. Well that’s exactly what happened to me!! My engineer neighbor actually 3D printed a dowel to use as a “go gauge” to check it before we tried to test fit the trans. I ended up having to buy the correct size reamer to remove a few thousands of an inch!! He then made me a drilling guide to ream out the bushing and everything finally went together like it should!! Notice I used allen headed studs to “hang” the trans on to help with installing it. I also used some for the valve covers and headers!!

Here I was starting to mock up the fuel lines from the new mechanical fuel pump. If you remember from the dyno session, it was determined that my old pump wasn’t able to keep up, so I went with this Edelbrock unit #1721.
Attachment 293753 Also notice the plate for installing the motor is bolted on?? Yep, it was about time to install it!! Attachment 293754 I also forgot to mention that we weren’t able to save the original Edelbrock Performer RPM intake from my old engine and went with a new Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap #7501. |

And after what seemed like months (because it was!!), it was time to install this little beast!!

Looks snug as a bug in a rug!! Header clearance was amazing especially considering their size, 1 7/8”!!

Continuing on with the alternator, which needed a completely different upper bracket due to the new Air Gap intake. And notice I was trying to keep the stock type fuel filter.

I was also trying to keep the vacuum sources separate, one for the PCV valve and the other for the power brake booster. These fittings worked perfectly!!

Time to get the new Cold Case aluminum radiator painted up and installed. Along with heater hoses, clutch fan and shroud. I was trying to keep everything aluminum as much as possible. So, we have an aluminum intake, aluminum heads, aluminum water pump, aluminum heater core and even aluminum heater hose fittings!! It’s beginning to take shape but more “issues” are on the way!!!

Looks great, Joe!!:beers:

I like the idea of the bubble wrap on the headers. Why I never thought of that I'll never know:hmmm:
Looks great Joe! |

AutoGear sells the good oil impregnated pilot bushings. I bought a piece of oil impregnated bronze and make my own. I've had to make some non standard sizes.
