Hood insulation was part of the Z27/SS package and cars with the Z87/ Deluxe interior. According to the judging manual hood insulation has been found on many standard interior Z28’s too.

According to the 1970 Camaro Specifications doc, hood insulation was included if equipped with Z87 Custom interior or standard on all SS models...so your car is correct without the hood insulation.

Unbelievable find. Great car, way to go

BTW, this is the section from the general specs that addresses the hood insulation....

So he went to the neighborhood speed shop and asked if they had a generic Holley carburetor that would work on his car. Speed shop guy came back with his stolen carburetor! The fuel line was cut in the exact same spot where his fuel was still cut on the car! So he got the original carb back! There is a rubber hose where the gas line was cut. I assumed that the throttle spring was lost at that time!

This,right here,is gold.
AI couldn't even begin to make that up.

My 70Z was a Van Nuys 1st week of July build ,and it appeared to never of had under hood insulation , Which was confirmed by the Original Owner when I was finally able to speak with him after owning the car a few years.

Find of the year!!

mssl72 09-09-2025 08:43 PM

Awesome acquisition!! Looks

Can you post a close-up picture of the bow-tie center cap on the wheel? I wasn't sure I was seeing it right. Reflection off the body? Looked body color. What color is the bow-tie??

Wow, what an incredible car! Congrats on the purchase.

The caps are kind of a transparent blue color in the center. You can almost see the reflection of the chrome coming through when you catch it at the right angle!

Z282NV 09-09-2025 10:20 PM

What an amazing Z28! Congrats your acquisition not to mention your patience and persistence.

MN 70L78 09-10-2025 12:10 AM

Amazing find! Congratulations on finally acquiring the car after many years of persistence!
Still has the original lug nuts too. Looking forward to seeing soon... at MCACN hopefully!

muscle_collector 09-10-2025 02:15 AM

i love the "deck lid extension" not a spoiler lol i dont believe i have ever seen that.

I can't make out the spoiler # possibly 9796 which is a COPO # and believe the deck lid extension terminology was used for the COPO spoiler.

"Rear Deck Lid Extension" was the terminology used for the small 1-pc spoiler as well.

rpoz11 09-10-2025 03:23 AM

Time capsule!

lakercobra 09-10-2025 11:26 AM

Here is a close-up of the valve cover bolt. I don’t want to just throw up a bunch of pictures, but if anybody has anything they want to see let me know and I’ll do my best to get pics for you.

BCreekDave 09-10-2025 02:39 PM

I'll try not to hit you too hard on the pictures, but can I see a picture of the spark plug wiith the wir unplugged? You don't need to pull the plug. Thanks very much.

Mr70 09-10-2025 03:43 PM

Can you take an overall photo of the drivers side of the engine?...Air cleaner off please.
As well as a close up of the PCV valve pulled out of Valve cover and attached to hose still.

Steve Shauger 09-10-2025 04:01 PM

Compared to other 70 Z28 COPO window sticker, placement of item on the window Sticker and price this was not an RPO, but was ordered with a 9796 COPO# indicating three-piece spoiler. A great part of its history. This car looks to be headed to MCACN and Vintage Certification! Another reason to attend MCACN!!!

No Steve, the car was repainted before I got it and I pulled the engine and rebuilt it. Probably one of the last Crane LT1 cams before they went out of business also changed all the bearings and the timing gears because it still had the nylon ones. Put back all the smog equipment and had Eric restore the rare Holley 4489 carb specific to Calf emission Camaro Z28's.(pic Below)

Zedder 09-10-2025 07:39 PM

Wow...what a car...congrats!

BJCHEV396 09-10-2025 08:04 PM

Steve, you are correct. 9796AA and the charge was $36.90. They had to make so many COPO cars for racing. Now they are one short because this car never had the correct spoilers installed! Does that change any of the 1970 racing results? This car could be famous! I better check the car tonight to see if it’s ever had a spoiler on the front!

Mr70 09-10-2025 09:35 PM

Thank you for those pics bbj.
And those are definitely the factory 4 thin green ring spark plugs.

CamarosRus 09-10-2025 10:38 PM

Can you please confirm that the distributor cap does NOT have the letter R embossed
on it....

My pics not acceppted in this system

That's what I wanted to see.

Just wanted to compare to Charley's Van Nuys 1970 car. Single green ring:
