Fabulous Finishes!
|
Looks amazing, can't wait to see it at MCACN. Hard to beat a LeMans blue COPO.

Update: Car is safely back with my painter/resto buddy - a true car artist. Grille and rear spoiler done. Front sheet metal finally going on this week. 41 days to MCACN.
I found an AC A212CW Air Filter but I am still desperately in search of a IO/CH - UZ (Big Block/T400) radiator tag - anyone know a guy? All the repos have the wrong tank letters. I'm running out of time! Here's more pics of some of the components we restored. Thanks again to everyone for their help and kind words. Almost done. Jim |
LOVE the details. Well done!

Lots of progress last week. Still need to install the cowl panel and hood and attend to a few details before MCACN.
A big thank you and shout out to LT1vette for offering me the Golden Mile key fob I have been bugging him about! Really a fantastic addition to the car! Still in search of a IO/CH - UZ (Big Block/T400) radiator tag if anybody knows someone. Thanks again to everyone for their support! Jim |

Cool news also kudos to LT1vette/Bruce for making it happen for you! I’ve always wondered about the G’Mile Mini-Skirt Pin/Buttons as pic below, topic sounds good but have you ever seen one or know the story behind them? Great updates on the car, it being at MCACN this year is yet one more great reason to go! :beers: ~ Pete . |
Stunning detail, your restorers are doing all the right things.
Paul |
Pete, cool button! Where do I get one? A quick Google search confirmed that this was a real campaign that started in Britain in 1969. Apparently, Golden Mile was on board.
Paul, thanks for the encouragement. I have been meaning to tell you that the Golden Mile tail pan emblem you shared with me a while back is currently out being restored/re-chromed. The last update was that it was in copper and expected back by month's end. |
I went out to the shop and looked at my CH rad to see if there was still a tag on it and unfortunately came up empty.
I'll keep looking for you. Paul |

The hood and cowl panel are finally back on the car. We also installed the original owner's Ontario vanity plate, and the original steering wheel completing the interior which is all assembly line, including the carpeting, but for the GM NOS dash pad.
A comprehensive systems check confirmed everything works except the cowl flapper which we attribute to a bad ground between the flapper solenoid and the flapper frame - on our to-do's for next week. To-do's also include rocker trim, poverty caps, adjustment of the reverse lock-out linkage, front end alignment, wiper arms, Canadian under hood decals, and my favorite, installation of the Golden Mile Ontario dealer tail pan emblem that's due back from the restorer next week. All very doable before MCACN in 29 days. This time I want to extend a big thank you to wheelhop who contacted me today about an original F7014 Goodyear spare tire for the trunk which could earn me some extra bonus points when the car gets Legends judged at MCACN. Likewise, a big thanks to Pete for the links to the Golden Mile-related items he found on Facebook. Jim |
Can’t wait to see this car!!

25 days to MCACN. Added an original RC-15 Radiator Cap and an assembly line single-step CV736C PCV Valve to squeeze out a few more points at Legends Judging.
Unfortunately, the original Goodyear F70-14 Polyglas tire that wheelhop contacted me about last week did not work out. If anyone has one with a 7 digit date code that's non-DOT approved, please contact me. I also need help from my Canadian friends about whether my car should have a Canada Transport decal in the driver's side door jamb. I have conflicting information about when these decals were first used. The last photo is a survivor 1970 Chevelle. At least one member shared that these decals were not used in 1969. Thanks everyone! Jim 925-984-0671 |
Folks, I don't know the answer to the question about when the Transport Canada sticker was used but I will clarify that the door jam photo is of my old car and it's not a survivor. I don't recall installing those stickers but the car was repainted in about 1989 to the original color (Autumn Gold) from black. I'm sure we repainted the complete doors so must have installed those stickers as well. I just don't remember obtaining the stickers and installing them but must have because I'm pretty sure they weren't saved somehow and reinstalled.
|
Thanks, ls6owner. I misspoke when I described the photo of the 70 Chevelle as a survivor. Another member had shared this photo when I originally posted asking about transport decals. He stated that this was a photo of the 1970 Chevelle LS6 Pilot car. My error.

The Fed Ex guy just dropped this off. Made my day! LT1vette, please accept my deepest gratitude for parting with this piece of Golden Mile history. I know you treasured it for many years before making me its new caretaker. Great addition to this car!
Jim |
^ very cool!
|
Anthony, do you remember if your dad's car had a Canada Transport decal on the inside of the driver's door?
|
Hey Jim, I'm sorry, I do not. It got repainted the first time by Ron Box in about 1979...
I know it doesn't help, but my 1991 454SS has one on it's jam... sorry. But hey, it's looking GREAT! Cheers! |
FWIW my 1969 Cutlass built in Lansing MI, sold new in Ayr Ontario on March 27th 1969, there was no round sticker in the door jam when I bought the car, its original paint in the door jams, did the sticker fall off, or was never there… hard to say,
It did have the sticker on the valve cover that Ontario GM cars got (I assume dealer installed) I have seen these on Olds, and Buicks. Ryan W31 |

Crossed off a few things on the to-do list. Fixed the ground on the cowl flapper solenoid (too much paint on the flapper frame), installed the rocker trim and poverty caps, and aligned the front end.
Still need to adjust the column lock-out linkage because the car starts in reverse. Then, the last of it includes wiper arms, antenna, Canadian under hood decals, and the restored Golden Mile Ontario dealer tail pan emblem which is on its way. I know its last minute before MCACN, but if anyone knows of an original F7014 Goodyear Polyglas tire with a 7-digit date code for sale that I could use for a spare, I would gladly pay a reasonable finder's fee or just owe you big time! Thanks all for your encouraging feedback. Jim |

Found an original F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas white letter tire to use as a spare. What makes it even better is that it's dated a month before the car's production date - UY = 1969 May!
Thanks much to Mike V. for reaching out to me today and everyone else who helped me with this. Jim |
Jim, is the shopping list completed?

Yes, I think I have everything. The Golden Mile emblem is done (looks great - thanks Ed) and I should have it soon. The plan is to wrap things up by mid-next week giving us time to spare before heading to Chicago.
|
That emblem never looked that good new. Great job
|
Left side of center on the tail pan, correct?
|
Jim.. Don't drill any holes for the emblem. Use some 3M tape, even if you have to cut of the the studs...
|
Based on it's keychain etc.,would that Golden Mile trunk emblem have been plated in gold in it's day?
|

Positively No. |

The plan is to use 3M Press-In Place Emblem Adhesive 08069. But I'm still not sure which side of center to place the emblem. Despite careful inspection after media blasting, we could not find any stud holes previously drilled in the tail pan. It's not clear if the original holes were very nicely welded up at the time of the earlier repaint or if the car never had an emblem to begin with. On the Golden Mile 69 Camaros that you remember, Bruce, was the emblem typically to the left of center? You may have already commented on this in another thread but I'm having a hard time finding it. Thanks! |
That is your call. I've seen the dealer emblem, to the left of the Z28 emblem. I remember seeing some mounted on the spoiler too. Depended on the dealership.
Nobody at MCACN will know the difference. Mount is where you "feel comfortable". I do remember that Gorries (affiliate dealership) they were mounted on the tail panel to the left of the Z28 emblem... |

As I recall, the emblems were typically to the left of center, that is, the driver's side of the car on the rear panels...
Interesting that your restored emblem is filled in behind "Toronto". Looks great Jim! Yay! Anthony |
Thanks, Anthony!
I didn't have the heart to cut the studs off the emblem I got from you or drill holes in the tail pan. Also, on the emblem I got from Paul, the solid rectangular area under the "Toronto" lettering provides more surface area for the 3M adhesive. Be assured I will keep the emblem I got from you safely put away with the key fob from Bruce and the various documentation I have been lucky enough to receive about this car. Jim |
Awesome!

Working or not. I still have time to gut one that's not working and install an XS Power AGM Battery inside. Here's the link to my previous post with pics looking for one of these. https://www.yenko.net/forum/showthread.php?t=183694 Thanks! Jim |

Hello Jim,
Below are a few pics of the COPO I restored from Central Chev Olds here in London Ontario. This is the correct placement for their dealer emblem on a 1969 Camaro. Not too sure if this will help you? Paul |
Hello Jim,
Unfortunately I do not have a side post battery but I will make a call or two for you? Paul |

It's beautiful! Everyone loves a Hugger Orange COPO, including the original owner of my car, Tom Hurst. In fact, before he ended up buying my blue car, he put in an order for a Hugger Orange (Paint Code 72) COPO from Don Howson Chevrolet in Willowdale. I don't know the exact circumstances about why Hurst never took delivery of the Hugger car but he may have seen the classified ad that Gorries Golden Mile placed in The Toronto Star three days before he bought the blue one - the ad that Pete posted above in this thread. I will definitely put the Golden Mile emblem on the left side. Yours looks great! A few questions about your car, Paul. - Is that a Canadian oil change sticker on the right side inner fender, and do you have it placed so that you can read it looking over the right side fender? - Did you put a 180 thermostat/antifreeze decal on the left side of the core support? - Do you know if your car was imported with a Canada Transport decal on the inner driver's door? - Is the blue colored rear license plate a dealer plate? The one on the front of my car appears to be authentic and it matches the plate number on the Used Vehicle Information Package documenting the sale from Hurst to the second owner, Peter Janda, but as you can see from the photos above, my plate is white. Were the vanity plates white? Maybe a post 1969 issue? Please bear with me on all the questions - it's crunch time, and the plan is to try to get everything done by tomorrow night. Thanks again, Paul! |

Regarding the 180 thermostat/antifreeze decal I meant to say the right/passenger's side of the core support. |

I’m not sure if this sticker was used by BOP only, or also by Chevrolet?
