3 days ?? Leave at 6 pm the night before, get there early, nap for a while in the truck, walk the swap, load any treasures I buy and beat feet home by 12 pm...
Actually, I'm starting to get a little on the grey side for those hours anymore, but, I'd still try it. 5 yrs ago, I drove straight thru from San Antonio home and 4 yrs ago, from Ocala straight home. That same yr, I drove to Buffalo, NY and back in 42 hours for an NOS Camaro fender.
LOL...Mitch,is this you? :)

No pills, but I've always had cars to play with and one of the first Aurora road race sets in the early 60's.

Well, I'm only five hours from Monticello Iowa. I'll try to remember about the swap in 2024.

Sounds cool. What is the difference from the '69 ?
I didn't think to ask if you would mind watching for a '67 disc brake center. One of the set I got from Anthony is a little rough.

The outer edge of the the dish part is less defined. It's discussed in the 1968 NCRS books....Joe

New England Dragway swap is the last sunday of every month.

This was from yesterday at Stafford Springs:

I thought that vette looked familiar thems my old stomping grounds at stafford. Must be a local car. Haven’t been to stafford in about 10 years though. Maybe I need to visit again .

Jake and I are going up to the Jefferson swap meet next Friday, April 26th.
Anybody else plan on going?:hmmm:

Well, I saw this thread start on Sunday after I returned from Pomona... was going to eventually chime in, but I may as well now since the question has been asked directly...

I've been going to Pomona for nearly twenty years now and I too, initially bought a space so I wouldn't have to haul any finds out to the parking lot and so I could lay out enough stuff to recoup the cost of admission.

It's never been "amazing" IMHO, and I often lament that I missed the heydays but I have at least, on every trip, found something that has made it worthwhile in terms of a rare, valuable, or needed part...

It is big, but really, only about 15% of any of the sellers, their spaces, or their stuff would interest us... there's lots of toys and hotwheels, and I don't mean redlines or collectable stuff, I mean the new stuff that you can get at target straight out of those cardboard boxes with the purple stripe that likely fell of a truck on their way into the target back off loading room... There's tons of kitsch too, not cool old stuff but dolls and man cave signs and that kind of stuff. There's lots of yardsale stuff and tools, oh my gosh... every fellow who buys a storage unit of tools brings them out here. And lawn equipment... never mind the little red wagons that are ubiquitous. But to be fair, I've sold some wagons there too; people will buy any wagon to help get that third member out of the lot...

Everyone once in a while there's the family or kids of someone who's left this world and left their collection to be spread to the wind; sometime those spots are good, sometimes not, but always interesting. That's happening more and more now, sadly.

This past weekend, there was a guy who had, junk was the only way to describe it, in his truck and he didn't seem to value it too much as he lowered his tailgate and reversed into his spot then with a sudden brake let everything slide out. I was impressed that he kept it all in his spot actually and went over to investigate when I heard the crash... I wondered if he ever cleaned it up when I left on Sunday.

The kids came with me this weekend and they often have fun, but with full sun and the heat it can get tiresome for them, who knows what adventures of Boss Baby they're missing on that dang tv...

Then there's the guys that are just there to cook and hang out, nothing wrong with that but those spaces don't have any interest to me but then again, every once in a while, the aromas coming off their BBQ's make me pause, some could certainly be paid chefs.

And the place is full of people that quote what the last thing that sort of looks like what you're asking about sold on eBay for last year. The prices that most people are asking for are crazy too... everyone quotes the internets for what their part is worth, and it gets quite tiresome if not annoying... This reminds me of an episode of Pickers from maybe a decade ago when the guys found and old blue kiddie stroller with beads on the front, you remember, anyway, they "valued" it at something crazy and wouldn't you believe it, for the last ten years you can find that same stroller at Pomona for the same $200 at any number of sellers' spaces?!

Finally, the tough guys walking three abreast down the isles just looking for you to look at them sideways is quite off putting, especially at a family event.

But the anticipation of the weeks leading up to each meet is what keeps me going; I'm so excited the week before, thinking this will be the one! It's like holding that PowerBall ticket two days before the draw!

Cheers Friends!
Anthony

Sadly.... This has become the norm in all of California.

I see that they eliminated Sundays from Jefferson this year, just Friday and Saturday. Haven't been in a couple of years - looking forward to it this year provided it's not a muddy mess.

dino67 04-17-2024 07:44 PM

I'll be at Jefferson on Saturday

----That is a great score! D's are becoming harder and harder to find at any sort of reasonable price. I have 1 set of 6's, 1 set of 6's and 7's, and another pair of 7's. All are restored to out of the box new. I have the mixed set on my 67 with Blue Streaks and they look really cool. If you use 7.75 bias ply's on 7's they will clear the rear fenders without a problem. The 4 7's I have have a 1/2 inch difference on each side.....Bill S

Good to see my old thread coming to the top again. I remember setting up at Jefferson 30 plus years ago with standing water in my space. That was fun....

Good tip on the 7.75 tires. I have a set of 4 Appliance versions of the 15x6s and 2 15x7 TTDs with the smaller lug hole also. Was searching for a home for both, and will probably sell the APs, and keep the 7s. My '69 chevelle 300 post car has been begging for some TTs and so far I've got 2 vintage 15x6 TTs for the front, (straight spoke), and possibly the 15x7 TTDs for the front as possibilities, and 15x7 oem steelies for the rear. Not sure which way to go, but was always leaning towards the straight spokes.

One of my fondest memories of Jefferson was eating breakfast at a table set up in the front yard of a neighbor across from the front gate. The whole town was really into the program back then. Haven't been there in years, but was always a good place to buy, back in the 70's and 80's. :worship:

But did you take a trailer load of goodies and try to sell anything ??

Wakepowell 05-01-2024 01:41 PM

It is encouraging to hear that there are still some good swap meets out there. Here in North Texas, the largest swap meet, Pate Swap Meet, continues to decline in my opinion. The decline is not in the need or participation but in how poorly it is organized. The swap meet is spread out over a massive area outside the Texas Motor Speedway and the bulk of the vendor spaces are occupied by parked cars, pick-ups, RV's and "private outhouses". In many instances there are 100 yards between actual vendors. If they removed the vehicles and RV's that are not for sale the swap meet area would be 1/3 the size.

Friday was nice all morning, It got windy and blew dust around a lot late morning and then rained from about 1:00 on. I had covered about half of it before the rain started. Saturday was nice, but windy.

Nope, just buying at this one. I'll be selling at the Buick swap next Sunday.

I bought a couple 70-72 SS dome hoods, a Hurst shifter with the correct lever for a bench-seat tri-5, a finned 12-bolt cover, a '68 walnut wheel, a pair of '69 840 heads, 70 290 heads, and a pair of 781s. Some guy with a lot of Mustang parts really wanted to get rid of a few SBC intakes, so I got those really cheap (Edelbrock CB4, Factory '56 Corvette 2x4, and a nice polished Offenhauser 2x4), and scored a Smokey Yunick/Edelbrock SY1 SBC intake in one of the buildings.

The guy I bought one of the SS hoods from stopped at my house on his way home and ended up buying the SY1 and a TR1 from me. I didn't really want to sell either of them, but money talks. They stopped to look at the '70 4spd Malibu that I'm going to be selling real soon, which is what I bought the hood for...

Too Many Projects 05-01-2024 03:38 PM

When did you bring the Malibu home ? I don't recall seeing anything on our forum ?

That came out of the same hoard as the '70 Convertible. I had it bought already but picked it up a week after the meeting here. It's a Cranberry Red, Black vinyl top, black bucket seat, 350/4spd car. 250hp/saginaw/10-bolt.

dvss1 05-01-2024 04:40 PM

Did you buy that green 1st design ss hood?

Derek69SS 05-02-2024 01:59 AM

I got a green one and a blue one with white stripes. Both are 71-72 version with the crumple ribs. I never saw an early one.
