Hello all, how about some more pictures of Marty’s amazing survivor COPO. Yes he does drive it !! No sitting in the garage for this Chevelle. Marty and I have become great friends because of the sYc forum. We live only a short drive from each other and attend lots of cars and coffee type cruises. Here is Marty’s Day 1 COPO Chevelle and my Day 2 Camaro from a cruise this afternoon. The cars are great, the friendship is better!!! Life is good!!!

It was great to meet you both at MCACN!!!

I struggle with screen names but don’t forget cars!!!

Amazingly awesome, thanks for sharing....:worship:

Marty, I know we all know how cool your Chevelle is, but do the regular “car guys” at the cars and coffee “get it” and do they understand the significance of it?

Hawkeye 01-31-2024 12:57 AM

Random questions while at Ale & Octane

Funny you ask that. I just commented to Rob on Sunday that I love the random questions/comments we get. Such as:

Is that a 307 under the hood?
I had one just like it, that's a 67 right?
What kind of air you got in the tires.
What color blue is that?
Why doesn't it have more badges and stripes?

Then I usually listen to a few good stories of their memories and they walk away not asking anymore about the car. If they actually inquire more about it I end up educating them on the COPO program, but they usually walk away mumbling BS under their voice.

But, once in a great while I find someone that has some familiarity with the COPO program and shows some enthusiasm. Then we engage in good conversation and discuss both our cars. Time can pass quickly when 2-4 guys stand around and start shooting the breeze about their Chevys.

The beauty of Cars & Coffee or Ale & Octane is you never know what is going to show up or what kind of conversation you will have. So much fun!!

Cheers,
Marty

Possibly my favorite hidden musclecar ever found right there, what a car. Side-by-side with an awesome Day 2 Camaro!

I had my orange 69 COPO Chevelle at a weekday car cruise in about 4 years ago. Mine has the 427 sticker on the air cleaner just so folks have an idea of what is under the hood. Anyway, a older gent comes up and starts asking questions about the car and the engine (hood was open). Since there are no call outs on the body and only two Chevelle emblems he figured it was a little unusual and rare, he offered an estimated value of $30k, unprovoked. I didn't argue and just said, "Maybe so, have a nice day." I never figured out if he was playing me or just didn't know. I assumed the latter.

Hemmings Muscle Machines article

Last week Hemmings Muscle Machines posted an online article about my COPO. The title of the email was "Barn Find: An Estate Sale 1969 COPO 427 Chevelle." I thought, How cool is that another one!! Then when I opened the email and saw the photo of my car I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not sure why this story has resurfaced. Although it is old news and some of the details are not correct it was still a great surprise to see it in digital print. It was a great throw back to the day it was pulled out of the garage it sat in for all those years. The previous owner snapped some really cool photos of it all covered in dirt and dust. I am trying to connect with the author and hopefully fill in the blanks and give the complete story. We'll see where that goes. Hope you enjoy.

Official Production Date

Well I’m a few days late posting this, but the GM official production date was 7/1/1969. My COPO turned 55 on Monday.

I also realized it was 7/1/2020 when I first saw it and committed to the purchase.

Cheeers,
Marty

Took a look for Landers’ Ads w/ 427 cars, no luck w/ Chevelles as thread subject but they did advertise COPO Camaros 06/69 as Ad below, possibly 9N650383 which the Registry here notes as a known car?
:beers:

Thank you!!

Pete,

That is a great advertisement!! Thank you for randomly looking. I appreciate your continued research of dealership advertisements. You really add great input to this community. Of course if you find any other relevant Landers Chevrolet material please post it.

Thank you!!

Marty

Thanks Marty, yep a great COPO Camaro Ad but too bad there’s nothing for 427 ‘Velles.
Landers consistently advertised generic ‘Biggest Little Dealer’ Ads over the years but little ever w/ specific vehicles listed, below the best I saw including ‘68 Camaro w/ 427 added by Landers.
Love to hear more of performance cars Landers built and/or delivered, especially any existing cars.

Pete is good at this.
I have a half dozen dealerships bookmarked and check regularly but "Landers" has drawn a blank so far.

"Vogel Chessman" in LaSalle ILL has also drawn a blank.

Happy birthday!!!

Marty, just a thought but we do know her baby brother [OLE BLUE] sure appreciates a good meal.

AKA a full belly of 110 octane racing gas

Killer pic BTW

Mountain Hi Po cars.

Back in the day some nice Hi Po cars were sold in the Appalachian mountains region of the USA. Yours being a very good example.
The boys from the mountains liked their fast cars!

C'mon, Boys Everywhere! I moved to TX in 1980

"In 1980, Dallas, Texas experienced a significant heat wave, with 69 days exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit. This included a record 42 consecutive days with temperatures above 100°F, making it one of the most extreme heat events in the region's history"

so we don't have may cars like this (without AC) around my Z and my Chevelle L78 were from NJ although there was a Copo Camaro that Ole Charley was involved with found in Waco Tx aren't on road much in June, July or August I still love this car maybe Marty does love it more since he gets seat time in it. Beers man we need better emojis
