I'm just waiting for Lee to measure up the length and then I'm ordering one of his.

This is the plan.

Had one on my 70 chevelle. It was a really light weight lift off and I think it was also a moroso hood. Wish I still had it. Got lost in a move somehow.

Just acquired this vintage moroso. Part # 7919. This is their 5” version made for a single plane/single carb intake

I really like these hoods, and I don't know that I'll ever find a used bolt-on one. So I'm thinking about having one made.

As an aside, I have taken an existing "lift off" hood and converted it to "bolt on".

I had a previous flat fiberglass bolt on hood on my Chevelle, and went to the lift off to save some weight (steel hood = 80 lbs; bolt on flat hood = 40 lbs; lift off = 20 lbs).

I retained the hood hinges and then added a spacer/adapter (square aluminum tube in my case), and then Dzus'd the lift off hood to these adapters. That way if I'm alone, or for most of my usage, I simply lift the hood on the hinges normally. If the going gets tough then I undo the four Dzus fasteners holding the hood to the hinges and set it aside.

FWIW - in case you can tolerate the visual aspect. Or - you could certainly create an adapter that is visually less crude.

It's also "backwards compatible" in case I want to revert back to one of the earlier hoods.

Old 69 SS 396 Camaro near where I live. It has since been sold and restored back to 100% stock

I recently picked up an NOS Moroso lightweight hood for a first Gen Camaro. It has a 7” high scoop. The part number is 7929. It’s really kewl…..I have it on display in my garage.

I had a lot of people on Facebook comment on it!!!

I'd like to find one of these too. I had a tunnel ram on my car for about a month, but I couldn't find a hood, so I took the TR off and went back to the single 850. Speedway has this one. I wonder how close it is to the Moroso hood scoop. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Pro-S...x-7,39242.html

Anyone know if there is a source for these hood locks ? I put a set on my '70 SS Chevelle after people stole my battery and tried to get the carb too in 1974. I thought the hood looked cleaner with these than the pins...

I've got a set of them somewhere. I was going to use them on my hood, but then I didn't trust them to keep it closed and went with pins.

If you happen to find them, Freddie, I'd be interested buying them, if you want to sell.

turbo69bird 01-25-2023 06:04 AM

That’s got to be an old hood I dont think moroso has been in a Greenwich Cf in a long long time, they are in north haven or Branford or something

The typical set up was a pan that went under the carbs w a seal to the hood around it

If those don’t work out for you call bill foss at driving image in Unionville CT , he’s been in the aftermarket parts business forever. He used to run a PCA years ago in the 80s he’ll know who made them and if they still do.

I did pick up a vintage scoop, I'll eventually work with Glasstek to fab up a bolt-on hood for my car.

SuperNovaSS 01-27-2023 03:24 AM

The locks are likely cal custom
. They pop up NOS from time to time.

What is funny it's actually a Mopar scoop called the "Baughman Layer" or something like that for the Chrysler engineer who designed it.
Back then no one cared. Everyone installed what they liked. My Mustang had a grump lump, the brown 69 Daytona ISCA show car had an L-88 scoop.
Just as you see every non GM car today with some form of GM cowl scoop.

Well, since I don't get notifications of posts to threads, I just saw this now. Yep, I would have bought it, but thanks for thinking of me and posting...

Always loved that '73 Motion Camaro. Badass car and the hood is killer.

I bought this car brand new as a 396/325. Was a race car most of its life.

----Always like seeing pics of your Camaro, Sal. Do you still have that pristine Suburban? My dualie Subby bit the dust in a shop fire, but I found another of the same year with super low miles. Mosyly only use it to drag boats out of the water,,,LOL!!!....Bill S

I just came across this vintage pic of a Z11 with a pin-on moroso hood.

cook_dw 03-22-2023 01:19 PM

Interesting to see no engine callouts. I can only assume the cars doghouse was replaced/repainted.
