Did you vote for Justin...!!! LOL |
I worked at a Gulf station here in California back in the early 1970's during the summer when I was going to college. I don't remember actual numbers but I think all 3 grades were in the low to mid .40's. I loved working there as the owner was a nice guy and appreciated all his employees.

I can remember gas in the mid $.20 range. Back in the day it took a lot to scoop the loop all night |
I remember paying 24.9 cents/gallon in August 1968 at a Shell station. It was one of a 4 corner gas station location who were having a price war with each other. $5 to fill my 64 Impala's 20 gallon tank.

Los Angeles today, regular $4.43 super $4.79

This week I paid more than last week. I'll probably be able to re-post this for the next 8 months.

It's not just gasoline prices that are rising. So is Home Heating Oil and Propane.
Winter heating bills set to jump as inflation hits home Quote:

When I bought my 1965 GTO, I got extensive records that the original owner kept. This shows that on Sept. 15, 1965, he paid 33 cents a gallon for what I assume was premium. Not sure where this is, but he bought the car in Elmira NY.

Gas is at $3.19 a gallon for 87 octane with 10% ethanol. $3.60 or so for 91 octane without ethanol. It has been this way for 3 months. I think we are lucky. At the beginning of the year we all sat around at the office and figured gas would be at $5.00 or more right now. At the rate of inflation that is going on, gas should be all of $5.00 per gallon.

Sorry. In southwest Wisconsin.

That has been the price for several weeks in the Hudson area, and really, much of WI and Eastern MN. I work in Vadnais Heights MN and fill at the Sam's Club there. The price has been creeping up but 87 was still 2.93/gallon today. |
$2.93 today, adjusted for inflation, was .90 cents back in September 1980. I was a pump jockey and that's the time when we went over $1.00 in NorCal. I can remember the pumps being changed for new ones with the dollar slot for the price.

$5.29 (above, California) adjusts (deflates) to $1.60 a gallon in July, 1980. Did gas ever get to $1.60 in California in 1980?
This, from 2015, is interesting: https://www.energy.gov/eere/vehicles...rice-1929-2015 "When adjusted for inflation, the average annual price of gasoline has fluctuated greatly, and has recently experienced sharp increases and decreases. The effect of the U.S. embargo of oil from Iran can be seen in the early 1980's with the price of gasoline peaking in 1982. From 2002 to 2008 the price of gasoline rose substantially, but then fell sharply in 2009 during the economic recession. In 2012, prices reached the highest level in the eighty-year series in both current and constant dollars, but began a steep decline thereafter. In constant dollar terms, the price of gasoline in 2015 was only seven cents higher than in 1929." |
It was as low as 99 cents a gallon in the mid to late 90s

Filled up Wednesday - still $3.20/gallon
