Been so danged busy, this is creeping up on me FAST !

About the drag strip, I have anti-freeze in my engine. Is that allowed, or do I need to drain and fill with clear water ? I will have a catch "can".

Also need to fill out the registration and get it mailed...

livettes 07-08-2021 01:28 PM

As long as you have a catch can I don't think tech will give you any problems. It is a pretty relaxed fun atmosphere at the track.
Glad you are going to make it!
Jamie

big gear head 07-08-2021 02:41 PM

I've had antifreeze in mine many times at that track and nothing has been said about it.

big gear head 07-08-2021 02:44 PM

Doug, do you have a list of people who are coming?

Too Many Projects 07-08-2021 09:00 PM

Cool, thanks guys.
Next question that just vibrated the cob webs...helmets ?? Mine is from about 2005.

sYc 07-08-2021 09:05 PM

You should be good to go. Only track I have ever had check is RT66 in Joliet. I think Barnhart's is from 1969. LOL

Please send in your Registration as soon as possible it would be a good idea just to put water in it just for the safety of you your car and other cars because of the amount of time it would take to clean up only if there was a problem beyond your control it is always helpful and you will be able to make as many passes as you possibly can and would like to enjoy

Copo_Cartel 07-10-2021 11:14 PM

Freddie I will have to get with Amy and she’s on vacation in regards to the updated list

Registration will go out in Monday's mail.
I'll have to see if there are drain spigots on the block to swap to water. This is a complete, used, engine I bought and I don't recall adding them.

big gear head 07-11-2021 01:15 AM

If things work out there will be a Boss 302 Mustang, Boss 302 Cougar Eliminator, '67 Corvette 427/435 and a '69 SS Chevelle joining us. All are 4 speed cars. I tried to get a GT 350, Hemi Super Bee and a '66 SS Chevelle to join us, but they can't make it.

Too Many Projects 07-11-2021 12:06 PM

I would be thrilled to bring my '66 SS, as is, but with an all new drivetrain and 1 mile on it, I don't want to mess up a spankin' new clutch without a break in period. The body is just a shell yet, so not streetable to drive and get miles on it...:frown:

You can bring it and be easy on it. There is no rule that you have to run it hard. Some guys just make easy passes just for the fun of it. I've asked several people to join us, but some of them tell me that they don't want to abuse their cars. I try to explain that they don't have to beat on them just to have a little fun. Casey had so much fun with his Stinger a few years ago and it was running 20s. I don't think anybody had any more fun than him that year. A lot of guys show up and never make a pass. They just show off their awesome cars in the pits. Last year we had a Motion Camaro that was not finished. It was parked next to me in the pits and people came by all day to look at it.

I hear ya Freddie, but knowing myself, there is no way I wouldn't want to turn that beast loose. I could leave the wrinkle walls at home and abuse the street tires a "little".

Oh, I also have a pair of Towel City Pie Crust cheater slicks I bought for the '54 gasser I was going to build. They are on the back in the pic I posted...hmmmm.....now you got me going...
I need to go out and pull the brake drums on the trailer to see if I need to replace the brakes. They didn't seem to be helping much when I brought the '54 home last weekend.

Too Many Projects 07-11-2021 08:30 PM

Trailer brakes are toast, over greased and broken wires. Ordered all 4 NEW backing plates.

Next remembery issue is the car has never been aligned since I had the frame powder coated. I just tape measured and level plumbed it when I assembled it. Might not be fun fighting a severe pull at 100 mph. I'll check with the shop manager in the morning and see if they can squeeze it in before the 20th. It's nice having a state of the art, laser, alignment rack and VERY experienced rack man at my disposal...

ANDY M 07-14-2021 09:13 PM

I regret to say that I can't make it this year. Mark, my trailer guy for the last 4 years retired and sold his rig. I was unable to find a trailer to bring my car this year.
If anybody knows of somebody who can haul my car for less than $2k please let me know.
Otherwise, I hope to be back next year.
Andy

Well that stinks. You don't have a buddy with a pick up you could use and rent an enclosed trailer ?

cook_dw 07-15-2021 02:22 AM

Anyone coming down from the Michigan area? Hoping for a part relay if possible. Thanks!

Too Many Projects 07-19-2021 11:11 PM

Couple more newbie questions. My car doesn't have a windshield...is that going to be an issue with the track personnel ? I have the door glass in, if they need to write a number somewhere.

When I get there Thursday, are we just going to the hotel and gathering there ? I should be in around noon.

Sorry for the questions. Next year, I won't be as naive...:o

Really? I am not trying to be a jerk....but I do not know of any Drag Strip in American that would pass you for no front windshield....if you are seriously wanting to race. I would put a front windshield in....I know you only a have a few days.

Dan

Too Many Projects 07-20-2021 12:47 AM

Windshield is not really an option. The dash and interior needs to be painted, for the third time, hopefully the correct color and gloss, before I'll install the glass. Not doing that for 1 day and remove it.
Not sure why it would be required, Wild Willie never had a windshield...

Guess I'll bring the Impala then.

That is a no brainier....why sacrifice a perfect restoration...just for the sake of going down a drag strip. Finish the restoration the correct way and bring it next year.

ZL1 number 1 might be coming to SCR this year. Well, not the real one, but this looks pretty cool. I met this guy yesterday and he showed me pictures of this model that he built. He said he might come watch us run Friday and I asked him to bring the model with him.

Without a windshield you will most likely need harness with arm restraints and maybe even a window net.

Thursday evening is a meet and greet in the motel parking lot area and Jason's great BBQ...

Rich

Copo_Cartel 07-21-2021 11:00 AM

Meat and Greet Carbeque by Jason from 6-8 pm. Tasty grub for sure.

Steve Shauger 07-22-2021 03:36 AM

Wishing everyone a fantastic time at event and safe travels.....

Postsedan 07-22-2021 12:06 PM

The real question is: Who will be the designated photographer this year.....and post pictures of the event for all to see?

Mr. Cumby will it be you?

It would be nice to take a picture of each car with the car owner standing next to their car.
Plus a picture of the event WINNER at the track :)

Have fun and be safe!

Dan

sYc 07-22-2021 01:49 PM

No doubt Cumby will be up to the task, with Chuck Hanson adding to the mix, and all the way from Hawaii, the original Yenko photographer, Bob McClurg.

big gear head 07-22-2021 03:13 PM

I missed Bob last year. Glad he's coming back. All of these guys do a great job of taking pictures.

I didn't make the event last year and it really bothered me. Not only did I miss my friends, but I kinda felt like I let them down by not "doing my duty".

We'll try to do better this year. :beers:

Never feel that way, Dennis.

Life happens. It's a lot of hard work taking all of the pics and the arranging and posting them for all to see.

Glad that you made it this year-I have already enjoyed your pics I've seen on Facebook. Say hello to everyone, be safe...and have fun! :headbang::worship::headbang:
