I think any tire vendor that tells a buyer this is the correct tire for their 69 Chevy is doing their customer a dis-service because it is most likely not the tire used on their car. Just sell them the tire that was on 99.999999999999% of the cars.

Reading this thread leaves me a bit confused -- seems there are indications those tires in the photo couldn't have been original to my 442. I've slept some since the mag wheel installation but I have to ask -- why would I buy "new" Goodyear tires when they are less than year old. I still think those were the original tires. Am I off base with that assumption? Craig :dunno:

earntaz... The Polyglas debate is about Chevrolet not using them.

I believe that the question was asked if the Polyglas was available, and with information given, it shows that it was. I represent all of Kelsey's line of Goodyears and all of Coker's line. In this industry, I have learned to never say never. I try to give solid information based in fact. In the end, it is the customer's car and the choice is up to them.

If a person has a build sheet stating they had PL4 option code, this was a fiberglas belted tire with raised white letters. This could either be Firestone Wide Ovals or the Goodyear Polyglas. The Goodyear Speedway Wide Treads are not fiberglas belted tires.

As anyone who has dealt with me knows, I am all about service and integrity. I usually go overboard on giving information of value to the customer so they can make an educated choice.

I would like to thank Jerry MacNeish for the document and the photograph of the tire posted earlier.

Thanks for clearing that up Rusty. Sure wish I had held on to that one. I have been told it is still in someones back yard in Clovis, NM ... some of my kin are still on the look out for it. Craig

Turns out the second instance Steve referred to is the same one Rusty just gave Jerry credit for. So as of now we have maybe 1.

The alleged OE '69 Camaro Polyglas spare has a couple problems.

It is not balanced and does not have the paint dot at the BB welded to the rim. Those are indications it was not installed in production.

I recall discussing this with JM. I believe the car had docs and PL4 was not listed.

Back to ground 0.

So my 69 Camaro SS, LA Built in Nov 68 with IF wheels and white lettered tires came with Goodyear wide treads?

That would be correct if it came with Goodyear tires. Would look like these:

As you can see from this period photo, some came with Uniroyal Tiger Paw F70x14 RWL tires

The PL4 option was released early April '69. Your car could not have been built with RWL FG Belted tires.

Very true... The question is then, what stripe color or RWL?
