Wow, it's really coming along. Well done.
|
Nice!!! What will this fine building be housing? Do you still have the CS Deuce?
|
Beautiful!
|
Very nice and a clean job site too!
Why the flat roof over a pitched one? Don't you have to carry increased loads for rain water? |
Hi Sam, still have the deuce so it will be in there for sure.
The Boss. The flat roof is for several reasons. First, the primary residence is next to this large building and I didn't want it to be a larger focal point on the lot so believe it or not, this building is shorter. Second, I have the idea to run a solar array on the roof to run AC and power needs so hopefully keep the utility bills down some. This is a basic commercial style roof which should hold up pretty nicely and keep the rain off of the occupancy just fine. Thanks for the nice comments! |

Sorry for delays, with photof*cket (family friendly) trying to extort money this thread became frustrating. I understand raising your fees or starting to charge on free accounts but wouldn't you think it would be moving forward and not retroactive back to day one. I guess they will get their karma somehow..
So since I have no idea where I left off because I can't see any photos I am going to attach one with basically how it looks today. I am doing electrical and plumbing currently but that isn't real exciting to photograph so take my word for it.. All outside doors are now on so outside needs some finishing touches to building and landscaping but otherwise fairly complete.. Inside fun begins.. |
Wow...looking really good Bill. I like the art deco styling along the roofline. Just as an FYI..last pictures showed the interior framing and the garage openings within the shop.
Me's very jealous. ;) |
Finally a garage thats big enough again

The top was a concession with my better half that said the big box must have architectural links to main house. See attached you will see tops of the columns, etc.. have similar style.. out of the whole project she wanted the pop outs at top of walls and columns, a door with a texas star, awnings above windows(not on yet), and the front garage door had to be "special". I looked at copper, wood, you name it but found a local company that uses r20 insulated heavy garage door and puts a rusted and sealed panel on each section to get the look you can see in the previoius picture. she signed off and all I can say is it was cheaper than copper (ouch).
|
I like the look, very clean and complimentary to the house!
|
Very nice Bill, and I get the importance of the wife's input all too well. I drew up some plans for a new shop I want to build here and my wife wants the structure to match the brick on the house and for the jumbo cedar shake roof to match also. I amended the drawings to include a good comparison so it matches the house architecture and styling.
It will be built left and setback from the house at the back end of the left driveway. Hopefully in 2018 we'll get started with it. https://preview.ibb.co/mhbV2b/IMG_2248.jpg https://preview.ibb.co/fQrPTG/2400_Shop.jpg |
Thats going to be really nice Norcam. Beautiful home and landscaping too. Your going to put the gas pumps and all out front? I thought about it because I wanted the portico to look like my granddads gas station from the 30s but the town council said I cant look commercial and that would be too much.. I may wait a while and do it anyways.. :)
Thanks Eddie! The house is more tuscan style with lots of columns and such. Not italian but its my favorite food so I think thats the relation that drew me in.. lol.. |

These are great. Here is mine. Be curious to hear about floor, heat and light choices
|
Yes Bill...plans are to finish it complete with a station front, overhead canopy and pump island.
Right now I have my gas pumps and station lights displayed inside and would like to move them to the exterior. Had 18 pumps at one point. (lol) |
For lighting in my current garage and shop I've been using T5 daylight fluorescent fixtures and bulbs. My buddies kid is a sparky and we're planning to convert over to LED whenever I start the new build. As far as heating goes, I have forced air H/E ceiling furnaces in the current shops but will likely go with an in floor boiler when this new shop gets started.
I know you're in Cali so do you even need heat other than a hot water tank? Or do you only plan on a water heater and Air Conditioning because you don't need heat? |

Here is a pic I took today to bring the thread up to date. I have 18 4' LED's for the main bay. will have 8 in work area and then go from there. Not hung since no drywall yet but they seem quite bright as I have a few hanging around I can turn on at night. I have t8's in my attached garage and they work pretty good but trying to keep from browning out the neighbors when I flip a switch..

Very nice Bill!

Yes, best Jeep I have ever owned and wouldn't part with it. I put a custom 4.5" aluminum long arm lift on it and it walks through anything you point it towards. Dana 44's front and rear, 4.1 gears, lockers, 4:1 transfer case. you can get out and walk beside the thing it tractors so slow.. Love it..

I did the LED's in my new garage too. I really like them except for the price.

Garage updates

Well, a lot of things happen and they are not worthy of pics, ie. electrical, plumbing, septic tank, etc.. that is all complete and now we got in the insulation. R38 in ceilings throughout building. on top of roof I have insulation board on outside of deck so that really helps with heat transfer from what I have seen so far. outside walls should be around r26. I insulated even between floors to reduce noise and I may make additional climate controlled space separate from the surrounding areas and its will be ready..
|
I love insulation and it WILL take care of you. Nice job w/ R38!
You got to be stoked Bill! |
Looking good Bill!

I built an indoor basketball court for a customer of mine once and used high impact sheetrock on it that was amazing! If/when I build another garage for myself I'll use that stuff in there for sure. |
