Wow, I'll bet he was a tad emotional when you said he could drive it. Time travel for sure.

mockingbird812 03-13-2017 07:07 PM

Simply outstanding. Great pics and memories that'll last a long time Steve.

So did he thrash on it too, or just cruise?

COPO CARTEL 03-14-2017 10:06 AM

Great story Steve Priceless

GaryW 03-14-2017 01:25 PM

With every revision, Steve's story of the 'pumpkin' Camaro gets better and better, and the 2017 version is the best yet! :) As someone said earlier in the thread... 'great car, great color, and great story!'.. I totally agree, and having known Steve these past few years, I can also add ... a great owner! I don't think the car could be owned by anyone better for it...

Tenney 03-14-2017 05:07 PM

Perfect. And good job gettin' the Led out!!

BULLITT65 03-14-2017 10:32 PM

Your hard work paid off Steve. WTG. I have tracked down dealership ads from Jim Edelbrocks Chevrolet, who sold my Z out of Plymouth Michigan. Still looking for the elusive license plate frame. Any luck finding memorabilia from jay Chevrolet?

ZLP955 03-15-2017 10:29 AM

That's awesome Steve, bet the years wound back for him driving that car again. Great story and kudos to you for setting it all up.

Steve Shauger 03-15-2017 01:52 PM

It's been quite a journey, and I'm glad everyone appreciates the story. I must say the best part of this whole adventure is the bond Paul and I have formed. Through this hobby I have met so many great people, and many have grown into friendships.

I have one chapter left and that is to locate the original owner William J. Miller. Paul and Bill were best friends but grew apart and have lost contact. Paul would love to reunite with Bill, so that is our mission.

Looking forward for other members to share their cars histories.

The only thing I've found is 1973 calorie counter & maintenance brochure . There was a ruler I missed out on and I know someone with a 1971 key fob.

Thanks Steve for telling me about this thread and boy its a good one!
Looking forward to meeting the first owner of our 68Z at Camaro Nationals this year as he's coming to see his old ride.
Again, great story and the previous owner met a great car buddy named Steve!

southernfriedcj 12-09-2017 11:52 PM

That is the best car story I have ever read. Actually choked me up reading about Paul meeting his old car again.

The great part of the story was we were both looking for each other and went to great lengths to find one another.

When we went for a ride and I thrashed on it a bit he had a big grin on his face. Then when I pulled over and asked him to drive, and he said "no man I can't do it" I said get your butt over here and drive. As I sat in the passenger seat and put the Led Zeppelin 8 track tape on...that was the moment he spoke those famous words "It's amazing nothing has changed. It feels exactly the same. What a thrill" we both will never forget!!!

Pauls a great friend now, and a real car guy. As was mentioned previously Paul really wanted the car, and he asked me several times if he could buy it. His bother in-law Dennis, loved the car but was too young to buy it at the time. The good news last month they located a hugger orange RS/Z that needs restoration and it's being restored as we speak.

I still haven't located Bill Miller (William J. Miller) the original owner. Perhaps members who live in the Vineland, Franklinville, Turnersville NJ area could spread the word.

As I've said these cars have a story to tell and seeking the history and learning and meeting previous owners is a thrill and completes the puzzle.

That is AWESOME -- all we can hope for is when a person gets to that point in their life, there is someone who will say ... "get your butt over here and drive" ... TAZ

Very cool story Steve!

It's the like minded people we meet and the stories these cars have that make them special!

cook_dw 12-10-2017 06:04 PM

Congrats on the ink and great story.

R68GTO 12-13-2017 12:35 AM

For me, that is the ultimate color combo on a 69 RSZ. Great car, great story, thanks for sharing!

bashton 12-13-2017 07:59 PM

How cool is it to see a great guy with a great car getting some accurate ink in one of the best magazines out there.

Congrats to Steve, not only for the feature and cover but for also being able to secure "the car" that you made so many memories in.

Let's also congratulate Muscle Car Review for continuing to do what they do, and show our support by subscribing! If you haven't already, I assure you that you wont be disappointed, they "get it" and they continue to support what we all do in so many ways.

Thanks MCR!

Yes a big thank you to MCR and Drew Harden who assembled a great team of writers, who know how to make an article very informative, but come alive as well. We all very much appreciate the coverage of MCACN and our cars. Kudos to Scotty Lachenauer the writer....

BTW I still haven't gotten my copy, and I had no idea that the article made the cover!!!

DW31S 12-13-2017 11:47 PM

Steve,
Expect a call from “In The News” about a showboard.

68camaroz28 12-14-2017 11:25 AM

Wow, great story Steve and congratulations for making the cover. Car and story certainly deserve it.

KenMaisano 12-14-2017 03:20 PM
