Re: L89
I remembering seeing this L-89 Elco @ the NCOA,(National Chevelle Owners Assc.) Showdown here in Schaumburg Il.1994 I believe,if not, than it was 1997-98.
"Big John" & I took it for a gentle cruise on Frontage Rd. off I-90.. |

Re: L89
Congrats on the purchase! Beautiful car.
Re: L89
Amazing ............ wow!
Re: L89
Speaking of loaning money, where does the line form, and what are the rates? Only kidding about that, but all kidding aside, that is one special El Camino. A question I must ask involves the other L89 El that "will never be seen again". Totaled? Out of USA? Please elaborate as inquiring minds want to know.

Re: L89
----Dave,,,It was brought up on this sight by Tony (scunsio). He owned it at that time, but it really needed everything. He put it up for sale here with no takers. Eventually he sold it to some guy without the only important pieces that were left, the aluminum heads. The guy just didnt seem to care about the most important part. Tony is almost positive that the car is beyond help at this point. Hopefully, Tony will come on here and correct me if any of this is wrong........Bill S

Re: L89
I sold the 2 DQ franchises in the Palm Spring, CA area to Joe Hrudka the son of the father who started Mr Gasket back around 2005. I seen this car among many others in his warehouse, amazing collection mostly 57 Chevy stuff. Joe remains a great car friend today.
Re: L89
Darn getting old, seen the collection back in 1997. Joe opened his first DQ in Palm Springs in 1998.

Re: L89
Thanks for the update Bill. I vaguely remember that car being for sale and told myself it was indeed a rare bird. Too bad it is not to be given a second life.

Thanks Bill...I have since heard the car was flipped to a guy on the east coast. He may take more of an interest in restoring it than the previous owner did. It would have made a neat bookend with Charley's black L89! |
Re: L89
I know of a orange one been under resto for the last 30 yrs,has a buildsheet and pop sold locally.

----Wow, Scott! If you can, tell us more.....Bill S

Also a great hauler for recliners....
So is this the point where you punch it and the chair ends up-right on it's feet? Lets see it on video!
stop that Charley. The only thing that El Camino hauls is ass. :)
Now that's a La-Z-Boy.. :burnout:
I'll take the recliner!
I forgot all about this car and it was like the first time reading all the threads again. Isn't getting old wonderful.......
I see an electrical cord on that chair, must be a massage chair??
Probably one of those that helps you stand up when you get out of it. :)
Almost all new recliners have power controls and usb charge port for phones etc. If I drill a small hole in the bed of the Elky I can power it with 12 volts from the Elky and have someone drive me around while reclined.
----You are killing me here, Charley! Why not a camper top???......Bill S

Sounds like Granny Clampett's new ride, you plannin' a move to Beverly? :beers: ~ Pete . |

Hey, we haven't seen a video of the elkie doing a burnout down your driveway?? |

You're the BEST Charley!!!! Made my day...
That is awesome!
After reading thru this entire thread, I gotta get my Elky out for spin... Mine is an L-78 iron head, but it's got the same power. Not sure I'd put any furniture in the bed after spending 2 months doing body work on it, yikes!
Saw the magazine feature on your el Camino Bill and that thing is unbelievable. Do you ever drive it? Just a beautiful car.
There are a lot of really cool cars on this site ! But this El Camino has got to be my favorite !!! everything about it , This thing rules
damn nice vids Charley!
Mark, It has been on the road locally a few times, but it's limited. Mostly trailered to car show. I have other cars to beat on when I have that urge...lol
