And the Factory Special that terrorized Woodward - Wangers is supposed to know its whereabouts. Supposedly even beat on the Silver Bullet GTX

68 BLACKBIRD Apparently now owned by a Chiropractor in Michigan - important historical Bird for sure.

Do you know who owned the black firebird in the mid to late 70's?

This car is supposed to still exist. Not sure if it ever got restored but I would guess not since it hasn't surfaced.

That car gets my vote too. Dana hood, black, white deluxe interior, radio delete, glass deck lid. Day 2 go fast parts galore.

Re: The Most Significant First Gen Firebirds & Camaros

I think it would be a shame to not include the first camaro and the fist firebirds in this show. (possibly against popular opinion here). I would think any of the protype 67 cars would be significant and should have an open invite. Although most here may not be so interested, I would think that the average guy may want to see the first cars.

It all depends on if GM would allow the first Camaro out. It was at SEMA this year and has been at other shows in the past.

How about one of the strongest offerings from our friends north of the border?

If this display is for the 50th Anniversary of the Camaro & Firebird then shouldnt it be just for the 67's? This would be my top 12 if that were the case for Camaro..

1. #1 Z
2. Little Hoss
3. Penske/Donohue
4. Cherokee
5. Yenko (pick one)
6. Motion (pick one)
7. Dana (pick one)
8. Pacer #1
9. Pilot car #1
10. L78 coupe (pick one)
11. L78 vert (pick one)
12. Grumpy's Toy

Yes- there are a few other significant cars out there in addition to the List above which are great selections.... .

Re: The Most Significant First Gen Firebirds & Camaros

"The red/red 67 SS/350 serial # 0000001 that was in Hot Rod Magazine"...I assume then that there are two #1 camaros? One norwood and one LA ? Im guessing there would be two #1 firebirds as well, one V8 and one 6 cylinder since built in separate plants ? If so, whos to say which is the actual #1 if there are two, cant really go by build date, since the first #1 is equivalent to the second #1 regardless of date IMO

Re: The Most Significant First Gen Firebirds & Camaros

I rethought my list, as I missed the point of performance

1. 69 ZL1. I think the blue RS is the best choice
2. 69 Stock iron block copo 427 (survivor would be cool). Non Yenko
3 A 68 copo (i.e. a 68 yenko camaro)
4. 69 L89 pace car convert. I pick the pace car convert as you get the ZL2 hood, most L89 coupes I have seen dont have that performance hood.
5. 68 L89 coupe or convert
6. 67 L78 (the batcar should cover this nicely)
7. 67 Z28
8. 69 z28 with JL8
9. A Thomas-Nickey. Must be a Bill Thomas version, where it all started.
10 A Motion
11 A Dana (the orange one we all love should work)
12 67 Yenko
13 69 Yenko

Forget the special drag cars, or the concept show cars, or the road race cars. Its a muscle car show/venue.

Agreed.
I've never seen that 67 Firebird pacer before.
I'd suggest Jon's 67Z (#1), the 67 IPC #1 (probably first L78) or Grump's L78 (first available L78).

A nice 1964 1/2 Mustang should probably be present - no Camaros and Firebird at all without that pony.

Right? Kevin Suydam's white 68 Yenko with the "Special Drag Car" tag and the Royal 69 Firebird drag car would definitely be on my list...

Someone must know where it went?

There are two cut away 69 camaros out there. I believe Mark From NJ owns one and Rick George's australian car. Don't know if they are done restored yet....

If you want to narrow down the field and keep the idea of representing 67-69, eliminate the restored cars from the display and include only survivors. That would truly be a sight to behold. Otherwise there would be too many candidate cars to choose from

I would like to see the only known survivor 67 pace car L78

Survivor or not, I would like to see Craig Jacksons's silver 69 RS ZLl Camaro.

Re: The Most Significant First Gen Firebirds & Camaros

All interesting suggestions and thoughts. I love hearing it all, and whether I agree or not is just another opinion.

The first Z-28 is confirmed to be in our All 1967 Z-28 Invitational display and the first ZL1 will be in our featured F-body 50th Anniversary display. The owner of the mentioned Royal Firebird is unable to attend. Another notable car that we have confirmed is the 1967 "Batcar" L78 convertible, which has been mentioned in this thread.

The 50th Anniversary display will include factory stock, Day 2 and race cars, both restored and unrestored.

'67 and '69 REAL Pace Cars are pending...
