I don't know if thats good or bad, just a sign of the times. In talking to Verne when he was ordering his he was telling me how he spec'd it out, when I ordered my Haulmark last year I told the dealer where I wanted my escape door, his response was "they know where to put the door, don't you worry bout it". The damn door is close but a good 6" from where I would like it to be. Same on the tie downs, I told them where to put the tie downs but they didn't do it so I had to install my own. I would order another Haulmark but this time they would put stuff where I said put it or I would go elsewhere. I previously had a 2005 Haulmark, the workmanship was much better in it than my new one. </div></div>

Re: Enclosed car haulers?
My Vintage is 24' and right now I'm using an '07 Siverado 2500 crew cab 4x4 with a 6.0. I don't own a tow vehicle; I'm the wholesale manager at a new car dealership and usually use a trade-in or something off of the used car lot(s). The truck I'm using now is a trade-in that I "built" to use as this year's tow vehicle; not a unit we would've kept for retail. My car has the dealership's name lettered on it, although they don't own it now; they did in 1969 & 1970, though!

Re: Enclosed car haulers?
How many miles are on the '07 with the 6.0?
|
Re: Enclosed car haulers?
189,125 and counting.......
|
Re: Enclosed car haulers?
I sold my first Duramax w 187k still ran great. My 15 has 40k and the one that will ultimately pull my trailer!
|
Re: Enclosed car haulers?
I've got 290xxx on my gas motor. Pulls my 28 footer great!
Few guys I work with have 200+ on the 6.0 trucks. Expect an alternator around 200k. Only unexpected thing is the "case rub" failure on the transfer case. I ditched the magnesium rear half for the aftermarket aluminum. |
Re: Enclosed car haulers?
The entire industry has changed 100,000 isn't high miles anymore.

Re: Enclosed car haulers?
Good to hear you guys still pulling boxes with 6.0 gas engines over 120k++! I just turned 120k with my '04 2500HD, crew with 6.0 and I'm concerned with the engine temp creaping up to 220 or so when pulling up the mountains - trans temp creaps up to 210'ish as well. It didn't always do this, except at 60k miles when I had to replace the water pump.... My boys want me to get a Class A diesel pusher.....

Re: Enclosed car haulers?
Marlin,
Mine is an '08 3500HD 6.0 gas with almost 200K on it. Runs great. Those are very good motors. Mine has the towing package and the temp never budged towing uphill. Verne |

Re: Enclosed car haulers?
Nice trailer Chuck! I went with Pace as well. I didn't get "all" the goodies, but bought a well made trailer and ordered quality components. When I was shopping, I talked to several of the people building them at the price point I had in mind. My question to each was, Why should I buy your trailer? The answers were interesting because I'm a fabricator/ Inspector. I understand cheap and BS very well, I have to in my line of work. I don't have the best, but I'm very very happy with their product.
BTW, I like the V nose....I love the way it pulls, esp when part of a convoy of semi's. BIG |
Re: Enclosed car haulers?
BIG
What size did you get? Now that you have owned it a while, what if anything would you change? And if anyone once to chime in I'm curious about "E" track, yes/no? Thx |
Re: Enclosed car haulers?
Chuck is your aluminum ?
|
Re: Enclosed car haulers?
8.5' X 20' You gain about about a foot and a half in front with the V. Plenty of room for a first Gen Camaro....
I've added some custom stuff to the inside to make things easy. Added a winch, spare tire mount inside, trailer aid ramp and mount, small toolbox, 110V hook up, fire ext, added alum plates in the floor where my tires sit, a mount on the wall to hold my tie downs, and a custom mount in the floor to hold my draw bar and torsion bars when I'm not "hooked up" so the grease stays off me, paper towel holder.....Everythings aluminum so I keep it light. I didn't have a need for the E track, I only haul a Camaro and the tie downs suffice. Works for me.... BIG |
Re: Enclosed car haulers?
I think my PACE Shadow GT was built in Utah around 2004........I bought it around 2011....
NOT Aluminum.......Undercarriage is steel and very unimpressive !!! I think its unusual in that its 20' with 10,000 GVW axle package. I changed wheels and added TOWMAX Load Range E tires Im still wanting to come up with location and plan for winch & battery ??? |

I took it to the dealer before the towing season, they could find nothing wrong. I had them change the thermostat just for peace of mind. My truck sits, sometimes for weeks at a time, so I'm thinking the radiator is starting to block up.... Overall, it's a very good truck! From someone who is on the road every day:
Nothing wrong with an enclosed trailer built in Georgia. I have owned (3) enclosed trailers built by Arising Industries in Fitzgerald, GA. I have visited their factory several times. I bought each one from Tim at Colony Cargo LLC - also in Fitzgerald, GA. Colony Cargo LLC Link Full steel perimiter frame - no outriggers. I would never buy an aluminum frame trailer - the roads in this country are in shit shape. I " wear out " a trailer in a few years .... One piece roof. Custom features can be added. All my enclosed car hauling trailers are custom built. I don't drive cars on & off my trailer - I winch them with a wireless remote. I haul project & concourse level - my interior is plain jane wood. Great info and great pics!!

Re: Enclosed car haulers?
Curious, how do the bad roads effect an aluminum trailer - do they go 'out of square' or break from fatigue or....??
|
Re: Enclosed car haulers?
TPD out of Sacramento, had four of them over the years wouldn't get anything else. Mine have all been for racing, proprietary laminate incredibly strong- you can put 5-6 people on the roof at the track try that with aluminum. Best resale out there in my experience.

</div></div> Marlin, Some trailer manufacturers do not cut tubing to fit - they " fill in " with the weld. Some welds do not completely bridge the gap. As I stated - the roads in this country are in shit shape. Aluminum framed trailers - those with the base frame as well as sidewalls & roof framed from aluminum tend to flex more readily because of the characteristics of the material. You can't adequately inspect an enclosed trailer beyond crawling underneath to see if wear & tear are stressing & cracking welds. My trailer I am running now is full perimeter 8 inch steel tubing that is 3/16" thick. The center tonge tube is also * inch and runs clear back to the first axle. Empty - my 34 foot custom car hauler weighs 6000 pounds. Jim |
Re: Enclosed car haulers?
How many miles a year do you average ? I think most of us probably tow a fraction of the miles you do.

Charley, In a good year I might see 85,000 miles. I " wear out " a trailer in about (3) years. Sure - more miles accelerate wear but the interstate road system nationwide is in such poor condition- you can tow 1000 miles a year & equate that to 25,000 miles in wear & tear. Everything I learn I pass along ..... Nothing is stronger than a properly constructed full steel perimeter steel frame enclosed trailer. Jim |
Re: Enclosed car haulers?
Hey,
Why do you use the barn type doors in the rear instead of the ramp door? Just wondered, I'm sure you have a good reason. |
Re: Enclosed car haulers?
Dave and I own a 24ft enclosed Triple B trailer we purchased used from a dear friend in about 2002 or so. Figure it was a few years old before we got it. It stays outside and has some topical rust but with regular brake, light, tire, and cosmetic maintenance, it has been a total rock for us and considering our purchase price, has paid for itself 1,000 times over in last 15 years. The best part of the trailer [aside from the large side door] is the low profile height which is perfect for gas motor trailering. We haul with a 2011 Denali with a 6.2L V8, tow package (I think 4.10s and 8,000lb tow capacity). We'll never own a diesel truck so not having the wind drag (extra strain on the motor), is a big plus especially mountains (up or down). The trailer has a useful life of 20 years which we're approaching and I'm confident we'll get that + more out of the investment. Seldom seen but really high quality piece.

My first enclosed trailer had a ramp door with extra hinges on the bottom. It wore out from daily use in less than a year. I need an 8 foot rear clearance door because I haul tall vehicles on occasion. Rear barns doors actually cost more than a ramp door. I requested (5) hinges per door to save on hinge wear. My ramps are commercial quality American Made by Discount Ramps in Wisconsin. Jim |
Re: Enclosed car haulers?
I just happened to notice this detail on the hitch of the inTech. They bothered to clock the gold washers. They also use RTV at all the seams. Notice black RTV next to the black hitch and light gray RTV between the two aluminum pieces. Extra steps to make it "just right".

Re: Enclosed car haulers?
Thanks Jim, I figured there was a reason for your doors. Interesting job you have.
