Wow . . . kinda just emailed a friend with a similar response. The overseas explanation is a cliche. Were people saying the same thing about COPO Pete's Camaro? Let the cops do their job and let Steve deal with his loss in peace. Do some reading or talk to some LEOs. Even a simple Google search will turn up countless articles. I do wish the owner all the best in all areas of his life, but that's not what's being discussed here. |

But an old Mopar that rattles? Perhaps "cliche" is not the right word - how about "gossip?" Please explain to me what a "would-be Encyclopedia Browns" is? This was just a discussion, not supposed to be anything personal though apparently you thick skinned New Yowka appear to have taken something personal. A lot guys don't "fantasize" about what happens to million dollar thefts (Mopar that rattles lol), they know what happens more often than not. Pull your head out of the sand. Grand Cherokees? That's funny. Ferraris, Lambos and a ton of Range Rovers etc are constantly being pulled out of conex boxes. Not gossip. Fact. I hope that's not what happened here and I hope this guy gets his car back in the same shape it left him... |
Re: Juliano Mod Top Hemi Cuda Stolen
I merely expressed an opinion. It doesn't give you the imperative to start a tussle. Gossip all you want if you wish - I'll remain on the sidelines watching the rest of you.

There are dozen things that "could have" helped. But that won't bring the car back. It was a crime of opportunity, wrong place, wrong time for Mr. Juliano.... I still hope that a solution similar to what happened with COPO Pete (RIP) is in the cards. |
Re: Juliano Mod Top Hemi Cuda Stolen
The bottom line is as "CAR GUYS" it's still our responsibility to 1. keep our eyes and ears open 2. spread the word so that non-car guys know it is missing and what to look for 3. to stop arguing over dumb scenarios that may or may not have happened. Seriously..... This piece of muscle car history should be the main focus.

Just wanted to bring this to the top to keep the awareness going. However after 11 days hope for intact recovery has got to be diminishing!

Re: Juliano Mod Top Hemi Cuda Stolen
Any chance this is some kind of hoax?
Anyone else notice the car was stolen on 4-26-16? 426 What's the odds of that? |
Re: Juliano Mod Top Hemi Cuda Stolen
1 in 365, actually 366. I don't know why someone would go through this for a hoax.

Re: Juliano Mod Top Hemi Cuda Stolen
If this car is potentially gone, I now wonder what the blue 70 440 (sixpack?) cuda mod top is worth (I saw a picture on one the other day on another website). Its the next in line after a hemi. If I was Steve Juliano, I would be taking my $1.5M insurance money to try to buy the modtop sixpack cuda and a modtop daytona to make myself feel better.

Re: Juliano Mod Top Hemi Cuda Stolen
I have to think this car has landed in a place like Russia by now....
No news is bad news. I wonder if Hagerty paid out yet. I have Hagerty and I won't be surprised we (with Hagerty) all see a bump in our premiums to pay for this total loss. They can't even rebuild the car to reclaim some a loss. |
Re: Juliano Mod Top Hemi Cuda Stolen
Is it that far along where the insurance company paid the claim? If so, don't they know own the car, or the rights to it if it does appear? I know time flies, is 30 calendar days the standard amount of time for the claim to be substantiated and the owner funded?
|
Re: Juliano Mod Top Hemi Cuda Stolen
30 days is normal for a standard car policy. I don't know with a collector policy if there is a time frame.
Buddy |
Re: Juliano Mod Top Hemi Cuda Stolen
I knew the 30 day standard on normal car policy, but was/am unsure of collector car claims. I'm wondering if the agreed value has a factor in determining when a claimant is funded. I'd guess the search for a $1,000,000 Hemi-Cuda might be a little more thorough and time-consuming than a $10,000 Hyundai.
|
Re: Juliano Mod Top Hemi Cuda Stolen
If this car is found after the pay off, i would hope that he has first right to buyback. Usually if you get your car totaled, but is fixable. You can usually buy it back.
|
Re: Juliano Mod Top Hemi Cuda Stolen
If it shows up as a clone (anywhere) the only quick thing I can think of (that I may be able to tell) is the way the torque boxes are welded in, would not match how a clone is done. Factory welds vs non factory (likely too nice). I would expect a thief would not correct this area (redo the welds).
I would also expect it looks like a 71 hemi cuda clone, and not a 70. |
