Re: Old Newspaper Ads
So, the sad news about the Yenko Chevelle is that a Garnet Red Yenko Chevelle from Marshall Chev in Reading, PA was indeed titled to a Frank Curry in Shenandoah, PA in '74. It is very likely this car, and the word is that it eventually became a dirt track car. The engine was apparently out for rebuild at a machine shop in the Scranton, PA area where it remained until about 10 years (+/-) ago when it popped up on EBaY. I believe 427King in CT bought it, and still has it.
The 'black' Deuce is very likely Jerry Albert's Deuce in Cedar Rapids, IA. This Deuce is actually a Gobi Beige car, with a/t but no p/s. It is unique in that it came factory with some body moldings. The car was 'injured' early in it's life, painted black and sold. Once discovered 25+ years ago, it was painted Daytona (?) Yellow, and has been enjoyed since! |
Re: Old Newspaper Ads
Joe Oldham and his son Scott Oldham (editor at Edmunds.com) built a replica of his Motion Camaro that got stolen. I'd love to see how it came out. Scott and I conversed via email a couple months back and I referred him this site but I've never seen if he joined or not.
My dad was an insurance adjuster in Pittsburgh through the 60's-90's and worked at Yenko's bodyshop for many years appraising cars there, and my sister bought her first Camaro at the Rt 19 location. Those old ads bring back many memories of checking out the Sunday paper for deals even though I was just a dopey kid at the time. |

I mean it must be, mine is the only one that was sold new and lived its life in Phoenix, and the mileage matches as well. I had no idea this classified ad ever existed, this is awesome! Pete, is it possible you can lookup this ph# from the April 5, 1974 issue of the Arizona Republic? I can't see the ad itself, but the summary of the OCR scan says it had "13,000 total miles" at that point. If you can't get the ad no sweat, what you've posted already is tremendously cool. Cool news and I was waiting/hoping some known also member cars would click! I'll look up the ad you need Wade also may have it already saved as there's a half dozen Cuda ragtop ads in the cache of stuff I haven't posted yet. I can't save here @ work but looking quickly, I see a Jan '74 ad w/ no mileage/price but there is a '73 ad w/ 5600 miles so seller may be the original owner? He's definitely a car guy as he has other vehicle listings too also a GoCart and Honda bike plus commercial real estate ads w/ the same # and call Maureen...maybe his wife? Unless some else does first, I'll post the ads I have and see later tonight. Best of luck backtracking the car! ~ Pete |

Very neat stuff Pete, thanks again. And yes sir Shaun, this is the red one, sold new out of Bill Luke Chrysler Plymouth of Phoenix. Assuming I did this attachment right here's a picture of the car from this same mid-70's era, wearing its AZ plates 'PTE-971' (in fact it still wears these original plates today). Thanks! - Wade |

Thanks Mark! Looks like that's what you got for 2900 bucks back in '75. Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread with my enthusiasm, but with Pete's followup I did some more digging and I do think Maureen is the wife. According to the old paperwork I got with the car, in Feb-1973 the 'Cuda was owned by a Bob Graham (at least the 2nd owner), and a quick search shows that Bob's wife was/is Maureen. So timing-wise this all makes sense, these must be Bob's ads and old ph#. In Oct-75 Bob sold the car to his brother Bill (whom I've had the pleasure of speaking with years ago), so it looks like Bob was unsuccessful at selling his car 6 months earlier for the $2900. Ugh! A year later it was bought by a longterm owner, who literally socked the car away for the next 30 years. One other neat piece of info is the mileage. The ad Pete posted from April 1975 mentioned 20,100 miles. When the car came out of hibernation in 2005 it had 20,535 miles. Interesting that it was used so little during those years, and it is very cool that Bob chose to post the mileage in his ads. Gives me a much greater understanding of my car's history. Again, much thanks Pete and All!!! - Wade |

Re: Old Newspaper Ads
Wade, I was in high school when this came up for sale and a good friend of mine went to look at it, It was on 20th St. south of Indian School Rd. at a small house with extra parts laid out on the lawn, (shaker parts etc.) he went for a ride expecting the owner to "get on it" but never did. I frequently saw the car around town, couldn't miss the velocity stacks. My friend still remembers clearly that day like it was yesterday.

Re: Old Newspaper Ads
Yep, that's how I remember it looking!!
PETE....clear out your PM's....want to see if you can find the add for my car bought in 1975. |
Old Newspaper Ads
'
Here are ads for what must be the car starting w/ Jan/73 @ 5000 miles but different phone # so probably previous owner, maybe the original? Two months later is the Mar/73 ad and odo @ 5600 miles also same phone # over the next few years as ads to follow. Note the mileage accumulating in some ads also 2'nd phone # @ Mar/73, we can try searching this later if you need. The last four ads are cars he advertised before/during/after the Cuda, July/72 '64 Impala 'Vert, July/73 '68 Mustang, July/76 '70 GS also '69 Vette which may be what he traded the Cuda for and lastly, the July/79 ad w/ the 442 'Vert. There's other ads I can lay on you if needed too also if any help backtracking, it looks like Maureen's surname may be Graham? Best of luck Wade and here comes a PM also one to you too Shaun. Re: Old Newspaper Ads
Wow Pete, just Wow... This is off the charts cool. As I mentioned I know Bob Graham applied for a title in Feb-1973, so almost certainly the Jan-1973 ad you found is from the previous owner. And the tracking of the accumulating mileage through this ad history is just awesome. The Graham brothers may have tried for years to sell their poor Cuda in exchange for a Vette, but during that time they sure enjoyed it, to the tune of 15k in miles! Awesome stuff Pete, just awesome, thanks so very much for posting!
