This one Randy? I think the L78 had a black interior and the white interior one next to it that Tom owns was a small block. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-p1130979.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-p1130980.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-p1130981.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-p1130982.jpg |
Re: MCACN '15 Photos by mrays
Jake....that's not the one.....there was another one down the isle on the corner....was red with a white bucket seat interior and was a Super Sport. It was a phenomenal untouched original car with 28K miles on it.

Re: MCACN '15 Photos by mrays
Thank you for all the great pictures and write ups. I was there, but this is the perfect link to send to all the people I'm trying to convince to join me next time. One question- do Mustangs and Fords exist in the MRAYS universe or are they just considered obstacles to getting good pictures of things next to them? ( ;-) lol)

It was Tuxedo Black with a red interior and was an unrestored car that had been raced in the 60's. It ran mid 12's and was owned by R. Kopanski. You refering to the 62 409 originally owned by a guy named Bob Zezula? Sure sounds like it by the description. |

The "Hockey Stick" stripe was not standard on the 'Cuda, so it ordinarily would not have an V68 code to signify a stripe-delete. So could this be a quirk with the first day of production? |

Thanks for the pics Vern! That helped confirm the air cleaner. The pics you posted had the period correct air cleaner. The previous posted L78 has an LT-1 air cleaner.

Thanks Verne....that's the one.I met and chatted with the woman who was co owner , what a delightful gal.....that car was one of my favorites from the show....just a spectacular untouched 50 year old car with only 28K miles....you just don't see cars like this very often especially Impalas!

I know there will be a blank under the "V" box on the broadcast sheet....no "8" |
Re: MCACN '15 Photos by mrays
Myron you are a fricken encyclopedia when it comes to documenting these cars. Thanks for all your efforts. Kinda like Dog is to the old pics only you are taking all these pics..

Re: MCACN '15 Photos by mrays
Thanks guys! I'm glad you appreciate my efforts. I have posted photos of all the cars I took pictures of. With limited time I was just trying to take photos of my favorite cars. There were a number of cars I wanted to take photos of but didn't for various reasons. Also, sorry but Fords and Mercury's don't exist in my universe. Not that there's anything wrong with them. To answer John's question, I believe the 62 Impala Verne and I were talking about was originally owned by Bob Zezula. Also, on the stripe delete Cuda convertible, there was a V68 on the fender tag. In reading the auction description of the car it said that the V68 wasn't used on the fender tag once production began. Since this is a pilot car there were probably other anomalies as well.

Either this is a factory boo-boo....or an incorrect re-pop tag. Unlike the Challenger (and other Dodge's) the stripe was not standard on a 'Cuda. A Challenger would have the delete code. |

Thank you for the photos, Mryon! I've seen a number of images of the E-bodies but none laid them out one by one. I did buy the book that was produced, but I had a friend pick it up for me so eventually I will get it see it.

Where else but MCACN can you see two unrestored red 65 L78 Impalas under one roof? Probably not even in a Chevy dealer back in 65'. |
Re: MCACN '15 Photos by mrays
Jake,
I have some personal experience with a '65 L-78. My best buddy in high school had one for a while. We changed the clutch in it outside on the ground with 6" of snow and a blowing 20deg snowfall at 1am in his back yard. We ran the engine as long as possible for heat under the car while we were doing it. Of course, we were also fortified with our own antifreeze at the time. Everything turned out fine.
