Re: '70 Nova SS L78 Resto Question...

I'd fix the rust and try to match the paint rather than paint the whole car (if that's even possible. I seem to remember hearing about some new device that can almost perfectly match the color.)

Re: '70 Nova SS L78 Resto Question...

Too many great, original cars get re-painted and/or restored......which, to me means.... wrecked. I would not paint it!

I have survivors and restored cars.....and cherish the survivors the most.....because......they survived!

Only original once. If you can't live with the rust holes - find a true magician that can fix those areas only.

----Jim,,,If you think about it all your cars weather restored or not "survived". The restored ones aren't something else (Honda or refrigerator, etc.) after they were tortured to death because of that restoration. I might not want to own them all but I love them all, every last one, restored or original.....Bill S

Re: '70 Nova SS L78 Resto Question...

I do too Bill. I have (and love) them as survivors or restored cars. There are so many way too cool cars that are too far gone that need a resto. I'm all for that.....keeping them around for me and others to enjoy. Heck - I have 4 resto's going on now because the cars needed it. I just don't like to see cars that don't need a resto get restored.....that's just me.....just my opinion. I wouldn't jump in front of Taylor Swift's tour bus to stop someone who wants to restore a good survivor....at least I don't think I would. :^)

Re: '70 Nova SS L78 Resto Question...

Nice car, I would fix the rust, here's why. I have a 70 with 36K miles, original paint on roof and door jams, has rust spot about the size of quarters on both rear quarters just behind the tires. Opened them up to patch and found the reason for the rust, factory used what looks like spray foam between panels, it absorbs moisture and it stays there. The rust will continue with any humidity.

Fix the rust and dents and paint the whole car and then you are done. Will be a very nice car when re-painted.

Sorry guys had to offer one more picture of the brown 1969 SS350 Nova with the original XT wheels. E/70/14 redlines in front and G/70/14 redlines on back. I went to larger tires on back because the original rear springs had settled a little bit and the larger rear tires helped level the car plus https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-34242-002.jpg
fill the rear fenders.

Re: '70 Nova SS L78 Resto Question...

Rob, my car looks allot like your car but not as rare or as nice. What I like about the car is that I can let it sit for 9 months, check the fluids then jump in and it will start after a few pumps of the gas pedal with no issues.
