Re: Grandfather's 67 SS Chevelle.
Are they the same brand tire? or just the same size?
|
Re: Grandfather's 67 SS Chevelle.
Just the same size. I know there'll probably be a little variation, but it shouldn't be that much.

Grandfather's Chevelle.Update
This one is close. It needs spring adjusters put in to fix the rubbing, and the throttle needs fixing. Part where it came through the firewall literally just disappeared. Not under the car or anything. Pedal all the way down. Dad's laid off next week, so we'll run up to NPD in Canton and get the part.
Here's a video of it on back all 8 cylinders. <object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/6tTVByl-NSQ"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/6tTVByl-NSQ" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> </embed></object> Also thinking about putting a new exhaust system on it. 3 inch Dynomax bullets. Anyone who watches Roadkill may recognize those as the mufflers on the muscle truck. No matter what, this car <span style="font-style: italic">is</span> going to get driven, because if it gets put off 'til next year, that would actually mean it has been sitting minus 3 or 4 times for <span style="font-style: italic">ten years.</span> Uh-uh. No way in Hell am I going to let that happen. |
Re: Grandfather's Chevelle.Update
Well, NPD didn't have it. I'll be honest, I'm start to get agitated with car stuff. Seems like ever since I got my truck, finding parts has been a pain. (It's a '96 Dakota. There is no aftermarket for those.) Naturally, to continue the trend, the part this needs seems to be a bit difficult to obtain.
I pushed it out and washed it (it was filthy when we brought it home, and hadn't been washed at all.) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-45888-003.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-45889-007.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-45890-009.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-45891-011.jpg |
Steering wheel?
I have a question about the steering wheel in this thing. Right now it's got a 90s Silverado wheel, and the original is in Pappaw's garage because it hit his knees when steering. What would need to be adjusted to make it fit properly, as I'm not a big fan of the Silverado wheel.

Re: Steering wheel?
What you need is a smaller diameter steering wheel. A 1969-70's GM 3 bar sport wheel (sometimes referred to as Cushion Grip) and mounting hub would be a improvement over what is here. It would give him the approx the same wheel diameter he has now, but give a bit more of the period look as a 67 GM simulated wood wheel.
Moving the seat back also helps...I's swap the wheel out if it were up to me and go from there. BIG |
Re: Steering wheel?
I may just get a cheap Grant wheel. I was just trying to see if there was a way to make what I have work. Or move the seat. Nobody ever sits in the back anyway.

Here's what a 67 wheel looks like |
Re: Steering wheel?
I know, my Pappaw (grandfather) has the original hanging up in his garage. He pulled it because it hit his knees.

Fixed after NINE years
Car's fixed almost! Gotta make new brackets for the gauges and it's time to drive the hell out of it. Gonna do both today hopefully.
|
Re: Fixed after NINE years
Pappaw drove it for the first time in about 9 or 10 years today.

Re: Fixed after NINE years
Good deal, did he let you drive ? Hope so.

Re: Fixed after NINE years
No, I just got my learner's and the speedo doesn't work, which means I can't drive it because I still need it to avoid speeding. Besides, a 17 year old knucklehead and 450hp with 4.56 gears is not a good combo. It stays at our house, and Pappaw normally don't drive them, Dad does, but I told him he HAD to, it's his car and I'd like for him to get to enjoy them more.

Re: Fixed after NINE years
Very cool.
|
Re: Fixed after NINE years
We do need to set the idle. Pedal sticks a bit so it sat at 1200 rpm, so Dad tried to tune it lower. It'll die at a light now because it's just too low.

Re: Fixed after NINE years
Well, it's pretty much finished now. It DOES need a new door latch on the passenger side, since you can't open it from inside. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-47918-001.jpg
We also tucked the wiring under the dash a bit better. |

Re: Fixed after NINE years
That's the thing. Pappaw did a few years ago and it was all hooked up just fine.

OK -- time to replace it ... those latches are common to many GM cars. Check with some of the suppliers listed on the RH side of the main page. Not to hard to change -- three screws and a few clips. TAZ |

Re: Fixed after NINE years
Plan on doing it soon. It's been that way since it came home from storage in 2007, but the car's never been on the road long enough to fix it.

First show!
Took it to its' first show today. Ran just fine. Added to the list is a different thermostat, like a 160. It has a 190 I think, which I just don't like.
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-48133-003.jpg Funny story: When I was 8 or so, a guy asked me about the Chevelle and if it was for sale, and I said "yes" to the last one (I didn't really hear the question) and he started to back in the driveway, for me to run and yell NO NO, IT'S NOT FOR SALE! Well, he continued to stop by and ask from time to time. Answer always no. Guess who was at the car show tonight? Yep. Answer was still no. Nice guy though. |
Re: First show!
You are much more polite than my son.
A couple weeks ago we had my old Viper race car out on the street and a guy asked if it was for sale. My son yelled at him: "HELL NO! IT'S MINE!!!" |
Re: First show!
I didn't say it like that, but there was no short of conviction in my voice.

Beautiful 67! I am doing a 67 as well located in Southeast MI

67 Chevelle plans
Thank you!
The plans this year are simple: New exhaust. 3" with Dynomax Bullets. The Thrush mufflers sound nice, but they're just not loud enough and they don't allow the sound of the cam to shine. Need to swap the front wheels for 7" after painting those (No money for powder coating.) Probably going to swap the shifter. The Pro-Matic's ratcheting just doesn't work correctly. Shame, it's such a good looking shifter. |
Re: 67 Chevelle plans
Well, just picked up a new set of wheels for it. Sadly, the bias plies are dry-rotted. 4 early 60s Chrome slots for $200. No idea what kind they are.

Re: 67 Chevelle plans
Wow if you got those for $200 you got a killer deal. Show us the other two
|
Re: 67 Chevelle plans
They look the same. I'll get a picture tomorrow.
|
Re: 67 Chevelle plans
Awesome look
|
|
It needs new tires again. The fronts are too tall and rubbing even with coil spacers. Since Cooper doesn't make the Cobra in a 215/60, I have to go to BFG. Which means the rears have to be replaced too. I was planning on buying tires for my truck, so I'll be getting the Coopers off of the Chevelle for that. I also have to grind down the rear trim, since it's catching on the tire.
|
Are those 15x8" Rallys on the front? Put some 15x7 FW's on the front and run a 215/65/15. IMO, 215/60/15's are too short for a Chevelle and too skinny for an 8" wheel.
|
Yeah, they're 15x8. I'm actually taking a pair of sevens to get cleaned up and coated later today. With the coil spacers removed, 215/60s should fill it just fine.
|
Okay, update time. Still no new tires (Camaro's been the focus this year for the most part), nor did we ever actually get the wheels coated (we had them blasted, then we primed then, and then they just sat.) We painted them today (and it's looking like we'll have to do the rears next to make them match), and I finally got a battery for it, since I'm tired of swapping the one we have between it and the Camaro.
I washed it (I know, bad for it, but I tried the detail spray, it didn't do much. It needed a wash. Plus, with no vinyl top, I'm not too worried.) We also redid the ground for the positive cable (it was frayed on the end, and we shortened it a bit, since it was too long), and moved the return spring on the throttle (I'd had it on the valve cover bolt since that was the only way I could keep it running before the tuneup). It's now under a bolt for the upper radiator hose (where it goes into the intake). I also removed the exhaust tips. They looked good on it, but were still rusty, and the screws just stuck out too far. It's probably placebo, but I think it has more 'lope' to it now. |
Coming together nicely youll be ready for woodward soon
|
Oh, this thing isn't going to Woodward. I refuse to take a car down there. Just isn't fun to me.
I think we fixed the rubbing in the rear. We simply bashed the backside of the quarter panel moldings in and it seems to be fine. Now, we have to fix the front, replace the passenger side door latch (It doesn't open from the inside- hasn't since it came back from storage in 2007), and it'll be all finished up. |

I turned 18 yesterday (past midnight here), and this car is about to get very, very loud. Full 3 inch aluminized exhaust with these, exiting in front of the rear tire.
|
|
Couple of clips of it now that they've sort of broken in. Some might call it obnoxiously loud. I call it badass.
