Reluctantly crouched at the starting line,
Engines pumping and thumping in time.
The green light flashes, the flags go up.
Churning and burning, they yearn for the cup.
They deftly maneuver and muscle for rank,
Fuel burning fast on an empty tank.
Reckless and wild, they pour through the turns.
Their prowess is potent and secretly stearn.
As they speed through the finish, the flags go down.
The fans get up and they get out of town.

This is a bit of tough one:

I lost a girl it's just as well
She tried to save me from myself
I still got her on my mind
Tossing and turning in my bed

But if she had stayed another week,
I would have dragged her down with me
She took off 'cause she had enough
Is that what I thought love was?

I told her "See you later"
But it's hard to see at all
At the bottom of the barrel
With your back against the wall

I'm not a cool guy anymore
Left it behind and closed the door
I know you can't escape the past
Now I look back and have to laugh

I was my worst enemy
It almost got the best of me
What was I thinking of?
I couldn't stand the way it was

Not sure the direction of the thread, so feel frse correct but here is my second one. Hint is that the song is only 20 years old and keeps the obligatory car reference.

This should be an easy one!! TAZ

'Round the drag way thick exhaust fills the air
(Whine, whine, whine)
The final teams tackin' up and action everywhere
(Listen to 'em whine, whine, whine)

Checkered flags, wheel stands, sure sounds pretty
(Listen to 'em whine, whine, whine)
To hear the cheers bring your ears out to ____ ____

I got a sixty-nine Chevy with a 396
Fuelie heads and a Hurst on the floor
She's waitin’ tonight down in the parking lot
Outside the Seven-Eleven store

Me and my partner Sonny, built her straight out of scratch
And he rides with me from town to town
We only run for the money, got no strings attached
We shut 'em up and then we shut 'em down

Trick question, RUSH again w/ Little Red Barchetta!
Strange words but I used to love the song also isn't today's day/age when he finds the car?
Growing up in S. Ontario I was lucky enough to see RUSH a few times in the 70's/80's...once or twice w/ Max Webster who really rocked before KM's solo days.
