Re: 1970 L78 Camaro
Sorry to be so late to the party. I recently had cataract surgery so reading is a hassle for now.
Yes to all who ask, the engine has what looks like an original stamp to me (and to others I have asked). Before I rebuilt the motor there was a fair amount of corrosion on the pad which indicates to me that if the engine was re stamped it would have been years ago. I'm not dancing around this question, but I didn't own the car from new and I am not a stamping expert. I firmly believe it's real. And yes, the Muncie also has a partial VIN on it. For all of you who would have paid more, the car was disclosed here and you certainly could have bid for it as Chris did. I would have been happy to sell it for more. Chris, thanks for having Dennis bring the paperwork, I was more than a little surprised to see it! As you said the car was sold with white walls and full wheel covers. It was also not an RS, and it once had a rear defogger which is no longer there. It was born with an AM radio but now has an AM/FM, a change I chose to make. (thanks Charley!) This was a nice #3 driver that still needed some work including a full paint job. I think the buyer got a great deal but not a steal. Thanks for all the interest! |
Re: 1970 L78 Camaro
SeattleCarGuy,
Thanks for the kind words. I too really liked that '65 Impala L78 convert, great car. That would have been a hydraulic lifter car. |
Re: 1970 L78 Camaro
As long as you're happy Sam, that's what counts. You had fun with the car for a while! The new owner was notified about the paperwork, but did not want to pay what I did for it. He offered $500.00. I think it would add more than that in value for him in the future!

Re: 1970 L78 Camaro
Congrats Sam!
|
Re: 1970 L78 Camaro
Thank you Sam for that info. Do you know if the block had the partial VIN stamp? Usually located on the bell housing flange above the oil filter.
|
Re: 1970 L78 Camaro
IMHO I too think the original paperwork is worth more than $500.. It will add a few thousand dollars value to the car!
|
Re: 1970 L78 Camaro
Scott, I could not find a VIN on the bell housing flange.
|
Re: 1970 L78 Camaro
Chris, agreed on the $500.00! Maybe the new owner will come around; that paperwork should add a lot of value.

Re: 1970 L78 Camaro
Thanks Stefano! This was a fun car to drive and own. I can't say I made any money on it but I suspect that's true of a lot of of folks!

IMHO Scott's car is the best '70 L78 on the planet. Saw it at MCACN, it is jewelry. |
Re: 1970 L78 Camaro
No sweat if the new owner doesn't want the paperwork. Won't change my day. When he goes to sell someday, it can only help him,

Re: 1970 L78 Camaro
Thank you for the compliments on my car guys! It's nice to hear from others who appreciate it :beers:

Re: 1970 L78 Camaro
How much for the paperwork? The new owner of this car obviously has no intentions of ever selling it or just does not care about the cars pedigree or he feels like he is being extorted; I have pictures of the VIN stamp on this engine somewhere and if I remember correctly the engine was stamped on the front of the block in front of the RGT cylinder head and not on the rough casting on the back like every other Norwood 375 car I have ever looked at with original engine. Personally; I think the buyer brought himself a real nice car.
BTW, I agree that Scotts (MN 70L78) 70 L78 Camaro is one of the nicest 375 cars on the Planet. Come to think of it there are only 4 maybe 5 of these cars that are even restored. Hell I only think there are 25-30 70 L78’s that we know of and out of that only a couple of them still have their the Born With drive train. Mark . |
Re: 1970 L78 Camaro
My cousin has an L/78 4 speed 70 SS Camaro L/78 on the trim tag ,code 48paint 723 trim.... It's a real solid car with it's original 12 bolt ,4 speed & LS6 engine was in the car when he bought it ...Also still retains it's original radiator & shroud ,Power steering & all the deep groove pulleys ...

Mark . </div></div> Scott's car is showroom new, looks great! My 19070 L78 Camaro has the born with engine...I tore the drive shaft in half and broke my tranny case, so I had to replace the case, tail housing, & main shaft...the rest is original...LoL Still has the original spare in the trunk, most of the original paint(with dealer optioned Z stripes), & I have the original bellhousing, distributor, clutch fan up in the garage. Still has the original 4:10 rear, although I did look into a Motion overdrive, but never followed through... Re: 1970 L78 Camaro
