Yes its crazy how much time it takes, we are lucky today to be able to purchase some amazing stuff right out of the box compared to what guys had to do to make these hot rods work better back in the day. |
Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
SCR18 Update ............. Thank you Mike Miller for selling me this awesome 1970 Sunflower Yellow Deuce Yenko for this project. We picked it up today and it will be delivered at the Mascar-Detroit Muscle facility in Costa Mesa California Monday .... Thank you Bob

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Nice job! A sun yellow deuce is a tough color to score, and MM does not sell too many Yenko cars - they seem to all go in and stay in (oh wait, that sounds like me as well....)!

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Great job Scott. Congrats. We are looking forward to having you and the car at the reunion

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Ok guys, the Heads are done, Kenny put in LOTS of time of these, I will let him tell you all how many hours. They are beautiful works of old school artwork.

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Wow! 180cc is awesome. They look great. Can't wait to see the whole combination together.
|
Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Now it's time for me to set the valve depths and start the Mach up process. Boy did these old school heads give me a workout! The last time I did this much grinding was back in the early 90s.In my super stock days.

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
would be nice to be able to "sneak" them on a Stock Eliminator car.
Great job! |
Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Yep, but NHRA calls for a max intake port of 165. Those boys have plenty of tricks:)

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Ok guys, today we started getting the new Yenko Deuce ready for the SCR18 build. Kenny has the motor almost ready to run, we have a turbo 400 being built by our trans guy, so time to pull out the old worthless motor and trans (an old 74 2 bolt 350 with a turbo 350 trans) and pull the perfect real Deuce rear end out ( ). we will inspect the undercarriage etc, make what ever repairs necessary to insure the car is safe and functional, then rebuild the suspension etc and start building the car for the SCR18 drags https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-img_4362.jpg

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Couple of pictures, one of Kenny dialing in the Motor we are going to run hard and the perfect original Deuce rear end with all the fixings wrapped up and ready for restoration, it will go back in the car after SCR18 drags and display at Muscle Car nationals when we restore this Yellow Deuce in a Day 2 configuration. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-img_4376.jpg

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
We have two sets of front wheels, the black steelies and these vintage Cragar wheels ....... before and after restoration, they turned out awesome, we will run the car with both at the SCR18 event https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...93-photo_1.jpg

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Just got finished on the Dyno. Very happy how the old 186 heads held the RPMs. I only have 100 hours invested in those old heads:)

Can (/will) you share any numbers regarding cam, compression and head flow? |

Just went off of my memory(back in the day)but based on the dyno it is safe to call it 270 and 200 @28" 180CC port. It started at 158CCs I kept it at 2.020 to keep the shrouding to a minimum 1.750 bowl and a pinch of 2.200 No epoxy or weld, the thinnest spot is .110 Camshaft is one of my spec grinds 302 268 600 straight pattern Compression 11.7to1 VE on this combo is 105 I'm very pleased with this build, on paper Max power should of been 520 and RPM should of hit a wall at 6600. |
Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
1/16-1/16-3/16" rings?
I just ran this through PipeMax (had to guess on LSA and ICL, went with 110° just as a WAG), it showed 108% v.e. That's a lot of meat to take out of those heads--I don't envy you there. (I can almost smell the cast iron!) Have you ever tried a 2.055" with a relief at the top of the bore? I wanted to try this on my 302, but it's so hard to keep compression in these tiny engines, I didn't want to cut that big of a relief in the chamber and on the block. I probably would've lost close to a full point of compression. Again, that's a kick-ass little build you've got there. Can't wait to see what it runs. |

No other change. I saw about 3HP. |
Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Good choice on rings.
Mahle pistons? 3 HP is 3 HP...find 10 places to find 3 HP... |

Thanks for sharing so much! That is a heck of a benchmark. Look forward to seeing the whole Day 2 package come together. This is a great thread.

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Hey guys, Kenny really killed it with this one, he worked on those heads until his hands bled! Steve at the Dyno Shop was stunned when he did the runs on the motor. We are also doing something very special with the Turbo 400 ..... think Turbo 350 in a Turbo 400 We will be posting some more pictures this weekend of the build, we are leaving everything as is, however we are replacing the front suspension, breaks, break lines, fuel lines, gas tank, etc for safety reasons on the track, but we are leaving the body, dirt, etc as is for the reunion and the Muscle Car Nationals display. We will then do a total Day 2 Restoration in 2016 for judging at the 2016 Muscle Car Nationals. We have also found out from the second owner that this car was purchased from the dealer with a black vinyl top installed, so we will be building the car in a Day 2 format and will include the vinyl top on the build.
Stay tuned |
