Re: Yenko Deuce
To answer a general question: of the 89 Deuces found thus far, 13 are reported to have the Sport Mirror option. That's approximately 15%, higher than I would have thought. If you extrapolate that out to the full population of 175 Deuces produced.... approximately 26 Deuces were ordered with Sport Mirrors. In theory the number could/should be higher since owners were known to remove / replace them because they interfered with the wing windows.

Re: Yenko Deuce
Well Guys ...... Guess what showed up at Mascar ....Hmmm Big Red Thank you Doug, its better than expected. We began the resto last week when Adam and I started the disassembly. Will keep you all posted and special thank you to Ken Schoenthaler of Deuce Heaven for your expert input on this project. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...red_nova_1.jpg

Re: Yenko Deuce
Adam is a machine, got this done in a day, we found two interesting a fun things, first a huge rats nest complete with the mummified rat second we found 9 rivets punched into the passenger side of the inner fender well ........... what the heck? Adam, Kenny and I surmised that the rivet gun on the assembly line got jammed when installing trim pieces around the window and the assembly guy un-jammed his gun by firing a few into fender well, only to be discovered by us 44 years later .... very cool https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...d_nova_rat.jpg

Re: Yenko Deuce
Cool stuff. I saw this car at Skip's just after he found it. I knew sooner or later it would be properly restored. Should be a good one!!!
|
Re: Yenko Deuce
Great -- keep the pics coming on the progress ...
|
Re: Yenko Deuce
Awesome!
|
Re: Yenko Deuce
Glad to see this car is being restored. Is this car currently in the registry? I don't see any Cranberry Red Deuces listed as sold by Ammon R. Smith. I can't wait to see this car and the Citrus Green one at a future MCACN.
|
Re: Yenko Deuce
Looks great. The rivets are from a repair, as is the red overspray on the firewall. The mouse nest is quite common, you just might find the broadcast sheet in there!
|
Re: Yenko Deuce
There was a Cranberry Red Deuce sold at Rogers Chev in Rantoul, Il. -- sold to a young lady. I have no idea what happened to it or where it went from there.

Hey Marlin, I know it may appear to be a repair but I can assure you it is not, yes the car was repainted at some point in its life, however the fenders were not removed and this is original paint. In person its very easy for us to see that this is original paint and that their is no damage in this area at all. We at first thought the same as you as its was fairly common that rivets or welded on nipples were used to pull out dents, however this is not the case as there is no damage in the area, no bondo, no distortion from pulling and no evidence of pulling or abrasion on the rivets. I will send you some detailed pictures at high res so you can blow them up. Its really not a big deal, but I think its very cool that we can document that some weird stuff did occur on the line at times, either way, the car is awesome and looking forward to sharing as we go . Fun stuff https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-img_2045.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-img_2030.jpg |
Re: Yenko Deuce
Looks like you are correct, I thought I saw a wrinkle in the previous picture and thought 'dent pulling'. Hmm... wonder what they were up to that day! Nice shop, who wouldn't like to restore their ride in that environment!

Re: Yenko Deuce
Yeah, it looks like they were practicing with the "nipple" installation tack welder. Aren't those the same little attachment nipples that the vinyl top trim and windshield clips are attached to?
|
Re: Yenko Deuce
Yes they are the nipples that attach the clips for the front and rear glass mouldings.
|
Re: Yenko Deuce
Having worked in a factory 30 years, they may have "smoked lunch" that day. Especially in that time period.
|
Re: Yenko Deuce
I have seen studs like that before on Camaros..BKH
|
Re: Yenko Deuce
Entirely too much time on their hands -- boredom or some sort of firefight with rivet guns.
|
Re: Yenko Deuce
We've taken a lot of Deuces apart over the last 19 years, and that's the first we've seen that! You learn something every day on these Yenko cars.

Re: Yenko Deuce
very cool project. the CW turbo 400 in my 70Z project is stamped 70CW-447 and the bottom line is 2988 where yours is 2911. from the same day?
|
Re: Yenko Deuce
I'm certainly no authority on numbers, but I believe this car is NOT in the registry. Anybody???
|
Re: Yenko Deuce
It's been in mine since '96, we just didn't have the vin until it came out of the trailer.
|
Re: Yenko Deuce
Soooo found out why the heater was not working ..... oh boy https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...eater_nest.jpg

Re: Yenko Deuce
That is the predecessor to the modern cabin filter you have there.

Almost as bad as the big snake that was under the hood when it was moved from the trailer.

I'm sure glad that I didn't see that when I was inspecting the car in Ohio! |
Re: Yenko Deuce
Am I missing something? Did Doug sell you this car or are you restoring it for him.
|
Re: Yenko Deuce
Don, it's in his signature - cran red deuce.
The seat material in the heater box is quite common, you might also find it in the glove box and in the headliner. The broadcast sheet could be in that ball of seat material as well, so comb through it. Black snakes in that part of PA are also quite common, mostly seen in the winter as they find a little warmth from the cold. Wayne has put pics of black snakes next to his Nova's in the Nova Times magazine in years past - interesting!! |
Re: Yenko Deuce
Well apparently the snake was not doing his job.
|
Re: Yenko Deuce
Marlin is correct ..... as usual : )
Yes, Doug was nice enough to sell us this wonderful car and we thank him. Doug was very good to work with, very professional and helpful with information and has assisted us with locating a few parts needed for the restoration. I will also add that Stefano and Ken S were very helpful in the process with input and assistance in getting the deal completed. We at Mascar Classics are restoring the car to the highest level possible with the intention of bringing the car to the 2015 Muscle Car Nationals for its debut. Ken from Deuce Heaven is consulting with the build and we are having a great time restoring this awesome Deuce |
Re: Yenko Deuce
Don't mind the snakes as bad as the raccoons, and hornets.

It will be interesting to see what method is used to repair the rust (that is -- if there is any damage) on the top and side of the windshield opening ...

On any areas of rust, we will be using the original panels and metal finishing in small sections as needed. Its always at least twice the work but well worth it to keep the sheet metal original. Mascar Detroit Muscle Cars |
Re: Yenko Deuce
I trust you are taking plenty of photographs of codes and markings? That is such an important part of the tear down process, and we've learned a lot from the Deuces that have documented restorations. Specifically, inspect the firewall for grease pencil markings, front suspension components for paint daubs, subframe for date stencils and inspection stripes, driveshaft for application paint rings, rear diff for inspection scribbles and paint daubs, and the sides of the engine block / ends of the cylinder heads for crayon writing. A little time spent documenting will pay off huge in the finished product!

Re: Yenko Deuce
Marlin,
So far we have taken more than 200 pictures we are sharing all with Ken S and I will send you a Zip drive with all the photo's for your files as far as rust, very little in window area, etc, what you are seeing is mostly surface and dirt. We will post some pictures after media blast |

Re: Yenko Deuce
That is awesome! Can't wait to see them - this is how we learn about these cars, so good job taking the pics.
Check the sides of the engine block, many times the engin code (CTC in your case) will be written on both sides, in yellow crayon, upside down. Also, you might find white "X"'s on the ends of the heads, under the Orange paint. |
