----Me too, Tim!!! Lets go visit together.......Bill S
----While viewing the BJ auction replay last night I watched the green Cobra go across the block again and finally saw who the final bidder was. Our own Colin C! Colin, if you read my other post about originality on this particular car, I would like to make it abundantly clear that I still think the car is a great Cobra. It appears to be a beautiful resto. Glad you ended up with it.....Bill S |
Re: Paint on 3353.
Well I hope it's not too long before showtime but the rest depends on me and I tend to be slow. Maybe late Spring...
The green car is beautifully restored. I couldn't tell on CCC what the car needed but it looked pretty good although it certainly looks better now. With current resto prices I too wonder if the owner would have come out better selling as is. Good purchase! |
Re: Paint on 3353.
If we keep on him we might be able to get him to have it done in time for MCACN..But we would really need to keep on him.

Re: Paint on 3353.
Wouldn't CSX 3353 be a great addition to the show.........

Re: Paint on 3353.
Bill, I've been reconditioning some of the pieces. Hope to post some pics soon. Waiting on some small bits that have slowed the process.

The late series 3300 cars were the only Cobras to get the 31 spline output shaft trans. The earlier cars got the hybrid 28 spline trans. The 010180 is out of my car and the 010184 is from 3346 which is probably the best low mile original out there. Never restored. These are the original inspection marks on both units.

Fitting footwell ducts and rebuilding suspension. Still waiting on a few pieces.

Rare factory Armstrong shock and seldom seen Cobra heater. I believe the mileage is correct.

Some odds and ends here. Decided my wiring harness is a little tired so I ordered a new one which I won't get until July. Thought my piston rings were on the way but are no longer in production so custom rings have to be ordered. In the mean time trying to get a lot of little things done but very slow going at this point. The original brake pads could have been reused. The two piston pads had practically no wear. The single piston pads had almost all of the wear at all 4 corners. Those shiny clamps are the original that we saved since they are no longer produced. They looked pretty rough when removed but cleaned up pretty good. They have a kind of tin plating that had corrosion but most came off. Calipers got new pistons.

Re: Paint on 3353.
----Phil,,,Ive been waiting patiently for your next post. Thanks!!! Cant wait to see her done. The seat picture brings back memories of my cousins 65 (serial # 3003) comp car that I was too stupid to buy when offered to me. His car was surreal but I still like bone stock street versions best!!!......Bill S

Re: Paint on 3353.
Phil, thank you for the current shots. I can't wait to see this car in person some day. The street versions have really captured everyone's attention since so many were modified and replicas are nearly all S/C models.

Re: Paint on 3353.
I would like to have more pics to post but I keep getting delayed by little things. The new wiring harness should show up mid July and that should get us close to the end. Bought a set uf Sunburst wheels recently and the engine starts going together this weekend. I too really like the clean look of the street cars and it seems they have gained in popularity of late. Sorry you missed 3003 Bill. Tim, I hope to get the car out some when finished.

Like everything, the S/Cs have been done to death (real and replicas) and now the money wants the unusual cars, the pure street versions. I've seen at least one new CSX 4000/6000 built to street specs. |

It's been slow lately since I'm still looking for a few small pieces and haven't had a lot of time to work. I bought a new wiring harness from British Wiring. They make one for a 427 Cobra every few months so it was a pretty long wait. It is supposed to be totally accurate but there are a few problems with it. The brake cylinders were quite a problem with no seal kits for the very late cars which have a .750 bore as opposed to the earlier .625 for which kits are readily available. I finally bought new Girling masters which look different than the originals but are the same dimensions and swapped the guts into the originals. The pistons are a little different but seem to work fine. Pedal pressure seems about right. Someone makes return springs for brakes and clutch so that was easy. We made a new cover for the pedal box because the original was fairly worn out.

Re: Paint on 3353.
Any progress on the cobra?
|
Re: Paint on 3353.
A little but nothing that can really be seen. Just rebuilt the new wiring harness. Lucas originally supplied it and Shelby made changes. I think I have finally addressed those changes. I've finally sourced some hard to find pieces. So there is progress but not enough time lately.

Re: Paint on 3353.
Looking forward to the video to see it done and roaring!

Re: Paint on 3353.
Those looked like offset dowel pins in the block, if so for those who do not know they are used in high end engine shops to move the combustion chamber or typically to unshroud a valve inside the cylinder in order to increase flow or increase agitation or swirl. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbt...2012.10.20.jpg |

Most of the carpet is in just lacking one piece but have to install couple sheet metal nuts first. After mocking up the rest of the interior decided to replace dash covering. Should get that done this weekend. Those Brits must have been small guys. Working the carpet into the foot box corners created some flexibility challenges. Water and oil temp gauges out for refurbishment and the others are getting new lenses etc.

Re: Paint on 3353.
looks great Phil. Thanks for the updates. Wow - the height of luxury - didn't know Cobras had carpeting!!!

A little progress. Mocked up most of the interior but will have to remove when installing the engine and trans. Still have to do some wiring and small interior stuff. Just got the custom pushrods for the roller and plan to get back on the engine soon.
